Quote from DeKo :They were developing new telemetry, which started showing odd results, so they slightly re-worked the laser scan data, which gave us fantastic feeling road cars and a high line on the ovals!

Does the high line really work now? If so that's amazing.

Yeah I did pretty good this week too, could have been even better if Montoya didn't take Newman out. I should be right back in the hunt once the points get updated.

"It looks like as of now it will be next week before we release the new Nationwide car with the new tire model."

Posted by Steve Myers of iRacing. I don't really care either way so I just had to laugh when I read this, iRacing just loves missing target release dates.

Quote from Andrew McP :Thanks for that. As a Skip enthusiast I was tempted to take a look again. Now I can save my 'free' 3 months' access until the last possible moment (15th May), which will just take me into the next season when the new tyre model may apply to more vehicles.

I'm not sure why I'm so intrigued by a feature which will make me even slower than I was already though. :-)

Andrew McP

They have said that for the August build the plan is for the new tire model to be applied to ALL vehicles, so that should work out for you.

According to the iRacing staff, for now its just the new Nationwide car, which will have road course tires if you really want to try it out. They said maybe during next season they might release it for one road car.

Night racing for road courses is something I'll mess around with a lot offline. Really hope they do Daytona next. I also can't wait for Suzuka, one of my favorite race tracks of all time.

I didn't hate the 2 car packs as much last weekend as I did at Daytona. It seems like everyone is getting better at it so it leads to a bigger pack of 2 car drafts, which is almost like the old pack style plate racing. I still wish they'd open the plates open some so it was harder to push someone lap after lap but you know Nascar is never going to do that. Oh well, as JPM would say "it is what it is".

Kimi's testing going well:

I'm excited to see the truck race at Charlotte and see how he handles traffic. I don't like that he's already thinking about Cup races, I don't want to see him get in over his head too early BUT it would be awesome to see him run the Cup race at the Glen just because of his road course background.

Quote from MAGGOT :Have you thought about seeing Niagara Falls? If you come up through NY (Buffalo, specifically) you come up right through Niagara Falls anyways, worth spending a day there. The Falls are beautiful and there's plenty to waste time on there. Plus you could get all dressed up in your suit and head to the Fallsview Casino

[EDIT] Note: Spend time on the Canadian side of the falls. The American side is balls... Plus all the hot girls are on the Canadian side, up-state New York is almost totally devoid of attractive females...

I live in upstate New York...

And you're pretty might right about that. Says he's flying to Toronto though, which means no Niagra Falls probably since its a couple hours in the wrong direction for him.

Quote from EliteAti :Does Buffalo still have the old dude ( Jeanneret ) screaming in the commentary box? Dudes hilarious.

Yes, I live about an hour from Buffalo so I always get the local broadcast, Jeanneret is great. Its too bad most of their games got picked up by VS(national network) so I have to deal with their garbage announcers for much of the first round.

Current forecast for Talladega is about the same temperature as Daytona was in February so I don't think we'll see a huge difference there. You're right though hopefully it should be harder to be stuck together lap after lap at Talladega due to the slightly older pavement.

I was swearing at the TV when they went with that strategy, figured there was no way it was going to stay green the entire time and I was just waiting for Tony to get screwed by a caution flag. Never figured it would be his own mistake that cost him.

Can't believe Tony killed himself with that speeding penalty at the end of the race. He's missed so many opportunities already this year.

I'm not even all that excited about Talladega either, I'm not a huge fan of the 2 car draft. We'll see how the race goes though. I'd say Junior might be due for a win this weekend.

Was just looking at Kimi's wikipedia page and saw this:

"In March 2007, while his Formula One rivals were in Australia preparing for the season opener, Räikkönen competed in a snowmobile race in Finland under the pseudonym "James Hunt", referring to the 1976 world champion whose "playboy" lifestyle has been compared with Räikkönen's own.[71] Räikkönen won the Enduro Sprint race by over 20 seconds with his Lynx.[72] Later in the year, he and two friends entered a powerboat race in the Finnish harbour city of Hanko while wearing gorilla suits. Again, he raced under the name "James Hunt".[73] They then won a prize for the best-dressed crew.[74]"

That's awesome and tells me maybe he won't do so bad in NASCAR, if the guy likes to race he'll probably have a great time over here.

Quote from Cornys :You guys who are Anti-NASCAR are rather closed minded.

Have to agree with this. Its funny how NASCAR fans get labeled as rednecks who only watch cars going in circles when most people I know just enjoy motorsports in general. I'm obviously a big NASCAR fan, but I also watch WRC, V8 supercars, F1, Grand Am, ALMS, etc when I get a chance. I'd watch every race from every series if I actually had that much free time on my hands.

Quote from GFresh :I watched the qualifying race on ESPN.
Nick started, dropped a place before T1, but escaped a fair bit of carnage behind him. Also spun a nice 360 after one of the GTR's passed him later on
Was cool to see him on TV, looks like a fairly quick guy

Haha, I saw a video of that spin earlier today and didn't even realize it was an LFS player, will have to pay more attention from now on.

I thought the race was really boring yesterday. There isn't a big enough difference between the red and the black tires it seemed, the only person who seemed legitimately slower on the black tires was Simona. I have no idea what she was doing saving all her "push to pass" things for like 5 laps to go, I wanted to see her get 3rd but by the time she really started pushing she kept getting screwed by lapped cars. I was disgusted by the move EJ Viso(think it was him) pulled letting Kanaan by and then slowing De Silvestro down.

I'm trying to give IndyCar a chance this year but the first race wasn't really all that entertaining. I remarked to my friends after the race, "did we see a single pass all race?".

I haven't really changed my fantasy line up all year, moved up to 3rd place overall this week. Do you guys really adjust on a weekly basis? I guess I should start doing a little more of that.

Great finish yesterday, California really does have some good racing and it was nice to see people in the stands there for once. Taking one race away from the track as well as shortening the race to 400 miles were both good moves.

Tony is really throwing a lot of races away this year. I really wanted to see him take tires on that last caution yesterday but once again they stay out and lose spots. Wondering how many times they're going to try that before they realize it never works for them late in the race.

Can only watch probably the first hour of the race again this week. I play hockey on Sundays and our schedule this year is killing me, have had to miss most of every race since Daytona.

Quote from PMD9409 :I know you can't always get them perfect (I have multiple monitors myself), I was just tossin a small joke his way.

Well the jokes on you! They're lined up pretty well when you take the bezels into account. I actually do have the full panoramic shot that isn't cut up into 3 pieces like that also. I took it last year Friday morning at Grand Am practice, I love being one of the first people at the track for actual practice.
