Technically, all AI cars have TC.

traction control = computer controlled throttle/brake traction management

If a car has no traction control, then the driver is the traction control. If the driver is a computer, then I guess you could say the car has traction control.

Quote from Sniiki :That's weird coz I thought that finnish would sound ridiculous to americans etc.
Then I also found out that this finnish band 'Turmion Kätilöt' (similar music as i.e. Rammstein, sung mostly in finnish) really has fans all over the world.

Well, I am a little weird I guess. I happen to like Rammstein, too. I've never heard of that band. I'll have to look them up on youtube.

but always you could try tough

Well, I don't plan on actually trying. But thanks for the warning. I thought maybe it was one of those languages that looks more difficult than it is. I've tried learning a few languages and always give up after I get past the alphabet and pronunciation. I always get bored and lost with the grammer and I have plenty of fun just being able to read another language, even if I have no idea what it means.

I like watching Finnish rally drivers not only because they drive well, but I like listening to the navigator. If I was going to learn another language, Finnish would be one of my top five choices.

Sorry, but I laughed when I read the first post. At least it was not a permanent ban. It's one of those things that's pretty embarrassing, but is funny in hindsight. I would love to see a replay .

Quote from Technique :To prevent this in the future, you can use the clutch to launch even if you don't use it while racing. This way you can ensure you're in the proper gear when the lights go green. You'll probably be a bit quicker off the line too...

Use the clutch on starts. Letting it slip a little may help with grip off the line as well, I'm not really sure though. I assume that's what they do in real race cars (even F1).

Quote from S14 DRIFT :I found that games just best played in sequential. I try it in H pattern and it's just not feeling right for some reason.

That may be because even if you turn off auto clutch, you don't really need it. All the cars (even the few with an h-box) shift like they have a sequential gearbox (except you can skip gears if you have an h-shifter like the g25). If the car has an h-box, I use the clutch just for fun.

ok, thanks for the replies. The reason I asked was I was playing GTR Evolution :hide: and I was driving the F3000 against the ai in a pre-quali practice session and I was doing pretty bad (2-3 seconds off) partly because I could not shift down to second without the rear end locking up a bit and causing oversteer. I had to take second gear corners in third gear, which seemed to hurt my exit speed. I don't recall ever having that problem in LFS (though LFS has much better feeling of grip, especially under braking.:nod
sequential gearboxes and footwork?

I guess this isn't really a LFS-specific question, but oh well. When using race cars with a sequential gearbox (in LFS and real life), are you supposed to rev-match when down-shifting and lift off when up-shifting? I know some street cars (i.e. F430) do it automatically, but what about race cars like F3000 or (some) GT cars?

cool

I thought that was real at first, but then I got suspicious when I realized it was a vodafone ad. l noticed that when they show the screen, it's not really youtube. (See attachments)

I'd like to see a making-of video. I assume a test driver drove the car and was edited out. Who ever did the editing did a very good job.

Quote from Mattesa :Easy.

It would look exactly like THIS.

A lot of passing too.

Quote from Mattesa :Moar.

If Bernie and Max are serious about cost cutting, they should just have the drivers race those things.

Seriously though, it would be interesting to watch real f1 drivers try that. I wonder who would win?

Quote from amp88 :Whitmarsh is saying that they weren't explicit enough but the FIA are saying Hamilton and Ryan lied. Ted Kravitz is asking the right questions but Whitmarsh seems to be saying their personnel didn't lie. Is Whitmarsh dodging the question or does he not believe their personnel lied?

That's why I wish the FIA would publish quotes from Hamilton or whoever, explicitly denying that Hamilton was told to slow down. The radio conversations were not "withheld" from the FIA. They obviously had access to them.

Quote from amp88 :The personnel who would put together the appeal would not be those who are working on fixing the car. The only people who would appear on both would be the management and they do not need to spent 100% of their time sitting next to the aerodynamacists making sure they're doing their sums right.

Given the current state of their car 6 constructor points could be a significant portion of the total points they'll score this season. Even if they expect to score a lot more they would definitely file an appeal if they thought they would win. The teams spend hundreds of millions to design a car to score points. No way they'd leave 6 points on the table if they thought they had a reasonable chance of getting them.

ok, fair enough. i won't argue with that.

Quote from amp88 :The most wins system has been scrapped, hasn't it?

Quote from Intrepid :nope! the most win system was ditched !

Really?! How'd I miss that? Oh, well. I'll be sure to complain about it next year then.

Thought this was interesting: Martin Whitmarsh interviewed about the incident.

Quote from amp88 :Why wouldn't McLaren appeal the decision if they thought the FIA were lying? They're not appealing because they know they made a mistake and they know they'll lose.

Even if they thought the FIA was lying, it would be a waste of time and money. They probably wouldn't win the appeal anyway, and they need to focus their time and energy on fixing their car. Even if they won the appeal and Hamilton got his 3rd or 4th place back, that's "only" 6 constructors points and nothing towards the drivers' championship (most wins system).

Quote from Bean0 :They were already moaning about 'Bad Light' after the Aussie one.
What the hell do they think they are...cricketers ?

I don't think it was just low light, it was the sunlight through the trees, which is annoying at any speed.

Quote from TexasLTU :You can lesson Mclaren team radio here

Now its coming to conclusion they weren't lying

Quote from ultrataco :I think they may have been worried about Hamilton passing Trulli when he went off so they decided to let him re-pass.

So I was right? yay for me! They let trulli pass as a precaution, trying to avoid a penalty (not to punish Trulli :rolleyes, but then lied about it!:banghead:

I'd like to hear what Hamilton and anyone else at McLaren said that led the FIA to believe they lied. I'm not doubting they lied, I'm just curious. Why only release one side of the evidence? They could have easily given us quotes or something.

For a while, Speed had the entire 2007 season available to watch online (not any more), which is how I discovered the speed world challenge. That was an good season. Randy Pobst nearly won both GT and Touring championships, which is remarkable considering he had to jump back and forth between a Porsche 911 GT3 and a Mazda6, often on the same day. (he won GT, but lost Touring at the last race)

There are quite a few drivers who do both classes, but I don't know of anyone else who challenges for the championship in both. Pobst was only in GT in 2008, and for 2009 K-Pax switched from Porsche to Volvo...wait...what? I liked rooting for Pobst and is Porsche. I don't know if I root for a Volvo.

According to the 2009 driver list, there's also a Gallardo and an Exige. I can't wait to see those.
also, no more CTS-V this year.

What is is with McLaren and the stewards? They just can't manage a clean, incident free race.

Quote from Storm_Cloud :... lying about facts to get a competitor punished is cheating, plain and simple.

What Hamilton and McLaren did was dumb (really dumb), but I don't see why they would care to punish Trulli. Hamilton was in third. By punishing Trulli, Hamilton got...third. No point unless someone at McLaren just doesn't like Toyota and/or Trulli.

I think they may have been worried about Hamilton passing Trulli when he went off so they decided to let him re-pass. However if that's true, it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't have said that so I don't know.

Anyway, on to Malaysia...maybe.
