new free content is great news

re spec racer, i did a few practices with it last week and actually found it fun to drive once you sorted a setup out to suit your style, especially at lime rock, jefferson reversed isn't so much fun though

cardboard box? thats nothing !!
i remember when i used to have to push toy cars around the track and send their position by carrier pigeon and wait a week to find out where the other car was, and before that we had dial up

+1 about SR

if you're a half decent driver i.e. one that no one tries to kick from a server in LFS (apart from when you go faster than the server owner), then SR shouldn't hold any worries for you unless you collect a huge amount of 1X for cutting the corners.

part of the problem that a lot have is that, just like in LFS, they drive the setup the fastest driver uses and their talent isn't up to it. even if they can drive it on a clear track, they can't cope with being needed to move away from their line to avoid another car

Quote from bbman :Monaco, not Poland...

I think I know what broke the suspension: Right after the restart, the 3 was the Pug that went waaayyy over to the right on the very bumpy stuff at Tetre Rouge passing those GT2s... Lamy blew it for Bourdais and Pagenaud with his impatience to get by the slower cars...

aparently that was also the pug that got a bit airborn in practice / qualifying so the damage might have been done then

i see ferrari couldn't resist the chance to gain a little publicity on the back of this and offer him a test if it helps his recovery.

not quite sure how much driving an F1 car with the associated vibrations and the need to press pedals will help with recovering from a broken leg apart from the sensation of going on a track.

as someone who hasn't used LFs for a while maybe i can offer a slightly less empassioned repsonse to the original post.

yes there are some idiots with S2 licences but they are in the minority and tend to hand around certain tracks / servers. there are no hard and fast rules about which ones, but take a bit of time to try a few and you'll soon find the ones without idiots (or at least those that are admined effectively) most of the servers / drivers on LFS s2 are fair and clean

south city due to it's nature tends to become an accidental wreck fest, ( think monaco but where the drivers are a lot more likely to attempt to pass) the problem is that a slight contact causes a car to move sideways and then they hit the wall. similarly aston historic has a few sections that invite passing manuveurs but tend to lead to contact.

don't judge all s2 holders just by the ones you've met so far, i'm sure someone could probably work out how many you've raced against compared to how many s2 licence holders there are but rest assured it's a very small sample group to make sweeping judgements on all S2 holders abilities.

Quote from GothaR_SVK : Physics development is not going very well (1.5 year for tyres is too much).

take a look in the iracing thread about dave kaemer's blog on developing a tyre model. 1.5 years so far is not an unreasonable time, iracing are taking a similar amount of time with more resources.

if you pardon the pun, it's very much a black art and even the tyre manufacturers aren't 100% sure what happens with tyres all of the time.

getting back on topic, whilst it may be anoying to some that the devs won't accept offers/ opportunities like the skoda, it is their product and it's their choice. if they did things different then LFS wouldn't have developed the way it has.

Quote from Mustafur :brawn?

yeah right.

second half of last season, rubbens was able to put preasure on button without being stopped by team orders and the drivers didn't try and take each other off the track.

Vettel and Webber are just individuals that just happened to work for red bull...

what i meant was the team officials all appear to be acting as individuals rather than as a team

haven't tried the solstice since i left it almost 2 years ago but it would be interesting to see if the custom control option helps by turning the FFB up for it, failing that i used to make myself use the trick that the great LJK Setright used to use when road testing cars , such as the series 3 Jaguar XJ6, with overlight power steering, i.e. holding the wheel with finger and thumb tips rather than the whole hand. it has the effect of magnifying the information coming throught the wheel

without being nasty to redbull, this shows the value of experience, mclaren, ferrari, williams and, through ross brawn, mercedes have all been there before and know how to run a team when it's at the front of the field with the best cars and 2 drivers who both see this as their chance of being world champion. ferrari learnt the hard way with peroni and villeneuve, mclaren showed how to do it with prost and senna, they never hit each other till the title came down to one or the other. brawn allowed button and barichello to race each other knowing they had 2 drivers who wouldn't over react to each other, similarly wiliams trusted hill and villenuve to get on with it.

what's making things worse for redbull is they haven't realised the best thing to say in cases like this is nothing untill everyone has had a chance to calm down, look at the facts and then present a unified front. at the moment they're looking like a bunch of individuals that all just happen to work for the same team

i hope so

OT. ive created a monster !!

having spent last 9 months recovering from post viral fatigue syndrome at the end of last week i finally felt readyt o race agin, i'd done a couple of simulated race runs in the mazda in testing and practice so on sunday evening i was going to race (at my least favourite road course as well)

had to be evening as on sunday i was taking my son to his first ever race meeting, at trac mon / anglesey circuit. i confidently expected to ge tthere for first race and for him to be bored by about 2pm.

how wrong was i, we stayed for every race and then he insisted i watched the indy 500 with him and thne the full recording of the turkish GP so bang went the iracing.

yesterday and today i was commited to digging out the old fishpond and embarking on a pretty large extension to it so no chance there, tom orrow i need ot tidy up bottom of it, put in liner and fill so i can move the fish back from their tempory home ( £10 paddling pool) but i will race before friday night

one good thing is i now have an excuse to go to any race meeting i want

what webber was doing by being so far over was making sure vettel had no chance of getting to clean track for braking, at worst webber would have been on a less dirty part of the track and if he'd jinked right at the last moment he'd have had access to the clean track . basically he was putting a lot of preassure on vettel, saying that i'm going to fight this, what he didn't expect was for vettel to behave like a touring car driver and try to force his way to his right.

sure he was risking letting hamilton catch or pass both of them whilst they sorted their braking out but put yourself in webber's place, the pass was effectively for leadership of the championhsip and given the language / behaviour coming out of redbull you could guarentee that if he'd let vettel past then he'd have been forced to play second fiddle to him for the rest of the season. given red bull still appear to have the fastest car it would be far better for him to finish 2nd with vettel 3rd rather than 2nd with vettel 1st and of course he may still have held on to 1st place and possibly had vettel behind hamilton in 3rd. even the final result of 3rd with hamilton and button in front has actually given him a lead in the championship rather than being behind vettel.

for redbull it must be truely annoying but thats no reason to be so pro vettel and if the differing engine instructions are true then it tells you all you need to know about their intentions this year.

edit: i see there are reports of a split between the 2 sides of redbull with horner siding with webber and possibilities of an anglo saxon - australian / german - austrian split forming

to be honest most things with subscriptions are auto renew these days, from my sky tv subs to my RAC membership to my sons star wars models collection, so i wouldn't criticise iracing for it.

however what they should do is draw your attention to it more so people are aware of it when they first join, a page in the sign up process with the option on autosubsctiption between entering your details and completing the transaction would be just fine.

certainly the obvious next mix in multicar has to be the corvette into the radical / dp races, which would just be even more like real life. if they split indy into oval and road championships then the road one could go multi with the lotus which couldbe interesting at some circuits there's not a lot between them yet they achieve the times in very differnt ways and if the races are similar to current indy length then the lotus has the advantage of not having to pit. i'd assume an indy oval series probably would get enough drivers for a while at least

and lay off antt69, sure he bangs on about cost a bit but this isn't an i love iracing thread, most of the early posts in this thread (including mine) were very negative about the business plan. and as i said and antt69 stressed i must be mad buying stuff i don't need / won't need but it does give me a nice warm feeling, well i think it's the 100% thing but it could be that my bladder control's going with old age

Quote from CSF :It all sounds well and good until you realize he got the inventor of the pneumatic tyre wrong.

enlighten me, i always thought it was dunlop who was the accepted inventor

anyway it'll be interesting if anyone ever gets tyre behaviour right, especially when it comes to heat buildup. foe example apparently both button and hamilton can overheat tyres but in different ways. one of them overheats the trye construction and the other overheats the tye compound's chemistry, can't remember which has which problem for certain but think it was that button overheats the construction due to his long smooth arcs style and hamilton the chemistry due to his more agressive short sharp movements, which is why button struggles on restarts sometimes as he's unable to keep the surface of the tyre up to working temperature. the probnelm they both have is finding a setup that allows them not to overheat the part of the tyre they strain but at the same time allows them to get the other up to temperature

i suspect the game pad support in iracing is because jaques villeneuve complained as he doesn't like driving with a wheel, which seems a bit of a problem for a real world racing driver

if you're running mazda, concentrate on staying on track for a full race distance and staying out of trouble, loads of people racing it, plenty are fast, plenty fall off track, plenty hit things, so you don't have to worry about being in an inappropriate split too often and most of the speed in it comes from being comfortable so the more laps the better.

oh and enjoy yourself, quite possible the most fun "road" car there is in iracing
