Quote from Ball Bearing Turbo :
Strange, so is mine.. Perhaps it's universal

Nope, mine isn't. But then, I have no insulation whatsoever in my car.
Of course, the sound inside is a much deeper drone, much like LFS has, and completely unlike the sound you hear on the outside.

BTW, for ultimate realism...
I have created scripts so that:
The paddle cars (BF1, FO8) move the brake pedal to the clutch pedal
The FO8 turns autoclutch ON (there's only 2 pedals in paddle cars)
All the GTRs with the exception of the XRR use a sequential shifter instead of H-gated.
The only thing I have to change when going sequential is the dial on the G25.
Works great!

See if you can find any option in your graphicscard drivers that lets you switch the mouse pointer from hardware to software mode.
If you can't, then maybe you have something capturing the mouse running, which may lead to it not understanding what to do in Fullscreen LFS?

Hi, and welcome to LFS... Say goodbye to your regular life, because you won't be seeing it for a while

The BEST way to start is by taking the XFG out for a drive. It's front wheel drive, and slow as my grandma on a scooter, but it's the perfect car to learn carcontrol in. Then, when you're confident you can keep her on the road and keep up with the AI, you may want to go for some different type cars which are not too powerful, just to feel the difference between FWD, RWD, 4WD, etc. Do all of this on one track, like Blackwood.

Once you get to grips with the XFG and the way the G25 works for you, start learning other tracks, and get online to join in some races. Make sure you know the car and track before you join though, we don't mind slower drivers, as long as they are coming prepared.

Also, there's a list of things you should check out in the threads in this forum that are stickied at the top. They'll help you prepare yourself for everything you'll find in the world of LFS. Find some setups you feel comfortable with, and find some nice people who can help you gain speed and teach you how to race. You'll find that there are a lot of helpful people online.

But remember the most important thing you should always do while you're a part of LFS... And that is to have FUN.
I know that I made it sound like a very long process, but you'll be online and racing us in no time at all, it's easy

C ya online soon!

Quote from Blowtus :a vague step in the right direction. sound is still shoddy. gear clicks and whine is the only substantial improvement imho.

Yes, but when I look at the big picture, then it doesn't actually sound half bad. The stuff you hear in LFS is maybe a fifth of the stuff that you hear in a real car driven at high speeds and near the limit. You can hear the suspension working, bodywork cracking, stones hitting, engine hopping, etc, etc. All that isn't modeled in LFS at the moment. If you add all those noises to the sounds we have, it's actually bloody well done.

Only point of criticism I have with the engine sounds at the moment is that they are dampened (muffled, if you wish) wrongly, although it's better than the first sound update was. In a real car, as the revs go up, the sound changes, and when frequencies change, so do the dampening capabilities of certain substances on that sound. In a real car, the bass sound we have now would get dampened out way more at the higher revs, while the higher frequency ranges would get amplified because they pass metals more easily. This is what gives an engine it's roar when it goes into high revs, or scream if it revs really high. Although there's definitely more roar in the bigger engines now, it's not quite there yet.

Still a huge improvement over the originals.

Ok, here we go... Like Android said, there's going to be threads complaining about the sounds popping up like teenage boy pants at the Playboy Mansion.

Depends on the cars... I'm faster in the real shifter cars, but I'm slower in the formula cars. But I think in the end I'll be faster using the shifter and proper heel/toe.

but would still be nice, +1

But you have states where you're allowed 'personalized plates'... So you get to actually spell out "Wht Blu Flg?"

Then why are we all driving our brains out on the STCC servers when there's a whole new universe created by Becky? Don't want to be competition for the devs?

Quote from Becky Rose :I confess it's swayed my perception of the 'community at large', and made me wonder why I even bother contributing to sim racing. The whole thing has made me feel I should go back to real racing and be damned with the whole thing, but thankfully I do have some faith in humanity, and I realise Tim is only 1 person, albiet one I favour less than the long dead carcasse of a rotten skunk.

People like Tim can be found all around. And I doubt we could do without you, especially now. If we had to choose between something you came up with which wasn't entirely 100% perfect, or something that's been running for ages by someone like him, I'm 100% sure that 95% of the people who care about LFS would stand behind you. Simply because we've come to know your abilities and efforts for this community.

So I sincerely hope that you would never leave this community for something like this.

Hmmm, he's singing Ya svaboden... So I got one 'a' right :P

Quote from PLAYLIFE :Nascar Nextel cup races for example are run ONLY on ovals.

One of the most famous ovals:

Ahum...
Watkins Glen and Sears Point are not ovals, m8.

Quote from LFSn00b :And same in english?

Are there any small black/white/blue connector thingies on the back of any of your disks? And if so, are they arranged in a proper Master/Slave/CS fashion (as in, the disk you want to boot from is master, the other is slave). This only goes for IDE disks, though. SATA doesn't use this method anymore AFAIK.

What you checked for probably is what DISK to boot from, but you may want to check what CONTROLLER has priority. It seems to me the PC wants to boot using the SATA controller, but this should be set to IDE controller.
Look for anything that says: Controller Order, or Boot order, or a combination of Controller and Boot and Order

Quote from Blackout :I agree with Al. I'm not a oval fan myself, and what makes LFS oval racing discusting is that there is no braking in the corners and it's always driven with the fastest car, just for speed, which in my eyes (think what you want people, lets not make this another flamewar) takes no skill. What we need is shorter more challenging ovals, a small stadium type one would be great, and people to use something more fun than the BF1! A very basic car would do it, big chunk of polygons/metal/whatever with V engine and fat slicks

ROAR!

Yes, we need a car that was meant to be raced on the ovals. We also need a ST, SW, and SS oval (a .5 mile one, a 1.5 mile one, and a 2.5 mile one for plates). Each oval has a distinctly different strategy for winning.

Edit: @mike
hehe, it's a sort of poll thing here... Would be boring if everyone always said +1

Quote from CodieMorgan :LOL... thats not what I meant in this suggestion...

I care less on anthems... just the driving part!

The reason on this post is... NR2003 has major lag on 56K..... LFS has 'less' lag on 56k (I joined and finished a 17person race)

I know, and my post was intended to support your suggestion, albeit under a few conditions. For one, we absolutely need full course yellow flags to be implemented along with a working pace-car. Second, we need to have warm-up laps/formation laps. third, we need to have a pit spotter if at all possible. And perhaps most importantly, we need to have different setup options and fully assymmetrical setups.

I'd be all for NASCAR cars and tracks right now, if I knew that all the other stuff would get implemented somewhere along the road to S3, though.

Quote from sinbad :Maybe Starscream isn't in it because he was killed by Galvatron. I'd expect that to be the case if this film is tied into the original film and not the crappy recent TV versions.

Optimus Prime was killed in the original movie, and Galvatron doesn't exist yet in this movie (he's still Megatron). So, yeah, Starscream should be in this movie. He was one of the most popular transformers.

Quote from PLAYLIFE :If we would get those cars, there would be no reason to pay for Nascar sims. So I think this is off!

BTW, the whole idea of a company is to make money (preferably doing what you like), not to make sure other companies still make money. So that's about the silliest reason not to add NASCAR type cars in LFS I've heard so far.
