If you have a windows keyboard you can hold down the left windows key and press PauseBreak (if you have diff keyboard, open control panel click system properties) then click on the Hardware tab then on device manager
you should see a little + next to Sound Video and game controllers click it and this should tell you some info on what sound devices you have. BTW any yellow triangles in device manager list?

or you can click start/run type dxdiag hit enter and when it opens click on the sound tabs again should tell you at least who made it

Good luck

Before you shell out on a new GFX card... how much memory is the Xpress200 set to use, IIRC it uses shared memory, what resolution do you play LFS at? lower = better fps, all your drivers up to date? sometimes a newer gfx driver will boost you FPS (not always)
open you display settings click advanced and check hte performance settings "quality" looks nice, but turns on AA+ AF and hit FPS hard.
check LFS settings try them all at lower settings etc.

do you have alot of processes runngin when you run LFS or many icons in your taskbar?

Do you have XP SP2 or SP3?

just some things to try before spending money, but if you want to get better GFXcard BigPeBe's post is spot on, I used an X850PE for ages, all settings maxed full AA+AF @1920x1200 and got 100fps+

Quote from DragonCommando :[...] the card should still be able to run at high FPS with V-sync off, if it can't there is no way it will hold v-sync frame rates under load.

not wanting to split hairs but IIRC if Vsync is on, the card never suffers the same loads as with it off, because it draws/sends only when the monitor calls.

Just to contradict myself...
I used to get bad tearing so enabled Vsync until a few weeks back when I was doing some testing, and with it off I get anywhere between 80 and 300 odd fps (ATI HD 4870) and since last GFX driver update, or maybe its LFS test patches, I dont get the tearing anymore, and LFS just looks better than when I was at 60 or 80 FPs constant, I cannot explain it

What soundcard on onboard soundchip do you have?

Are all your drivers up to date? diid it go like this after you installed a driver or some new HW?

I'm thinking it its only when you crash it could be a (this is a just a guess)corrupt soundfile, or the higher count of oblects (tyres, ect) flying around ?

You could try increasing the priority of LFS in taskmanager,

If you've got a creativelabs soundcard that could be the prob.

Lucid Dreaming is where its at, it when you realise you are dreaming and take over/dictate the dream.

I'm sure Ive seen a REM sensing hat, that sounds a buzzer to "shift" you into lucidity within your dream.

The XFG has always reminded me a little of the Citroen AX, but it could just as well be a mixture of many late 80s hatchbacks like the fantastic Suzuki Swift....

Gills4Life, Thank you for your post, I am very glad you posted it, having 2 young children at school, its always good to have local info.

S14 Please, try to count to 10 slowly before you post in such a pugnatious way, just because you believe you are right doesn't always mean you are, and arguing for the sake of it, just bloats up the forum and makes you look less mature than you probably are.

This thread has shocked me a little, I didn't realise just how many people are downloading cracked or pirated software, just the other week another member of this forum proudly admitted to running a cracked copy of RFactor.

Considering this community is quite small, and 3 peeps in this one thread have stole it already, its no wonder games and films cost so much.

Quote from logitekg25 :routers are required, because my dad doesnt want to drill a hole through a wall, and those are 70 bucks

Yes a router would be the best way, however without one you could still make a wireless ad-hoc network and let ICS do the routing, providing the other PC runs windows of some flavor.

Quote from logitekg25 :i does because if it doesnt work on my ancient comp. then i just wasted 30$ and i want to play online!

Its very easy to download LFS onto a flashdrive and install it on your non internet PC, and you can play demo content offline to see how your PC performs.

If your mums PC is in the same house/flat, there are ways to connect your PC via cable or wireless so you can share the internet connection, although some outlay may be required.

Just thought I would post a heads up here as I spotted it today.

I think this is the cheapest you can get the G25 for new in the UK.

OverclockersUK are a very reputable company.

I hope this could help someone save some pennys

I find there is plenty of opertunity for good, close, clean and fair racing on public servers, there will always be an element of chance that some random opponant will close the door late, or run wide into another car, all too often this results in a barrage of abuse in the chat

I always try to remember that everyone has to start somewhere, and only by racing with real people of different experiance/skill levels can help many a driver deal with situations that the AI just can't give.

As GF has mentioned its all about your attitude, if everyone who joines brings the same respect for others as most of the people I meet in LFS public servers, good racing will follow

Demo Servers are not the same as S2 servers in this respect, shame we cannot filter them out..

Getting away from the children hijacking this thread.......

What version of LFSdedi are you running?
What ports do your GTR2/Rfactor hosts use?

Are you running any insim?

Its totally obvious that SRC didn't aim his comment at S14D, only about 1 in 50 of S14's posts are actually thought out and comprehensive.

You should allow the option to select more than one, many have dual boot or more than 1 PC
I use XPHome + VistaUltimate + XPPro + Ubuntu + XP64 + VistaHomeBasic + Mandrake + Win98SE, on various Desktops and laptops.

It may seem alot, but I used to do alot more HW testing than I do now

I think Rodry87 means that the OP should check the display settings outside LFS.

For Aleksander's school PC going by the GFX chipset, you can access the important settings via the CCC or right click desktop choose properties, click the settings tab, then click advanced.

Slide the 3D Performance slider between performance and quality, self explanitory Always check the troubleshooting tab as hardware settings may have been reduced here.

Because its a school PC there could be hidden keylogging type software running, or other background processes, do you play LFS via vista or xp, I guess by your post you dual boot?

Maybe this laptop is just too full of stuff?
how many icons in your taskbar nr the clock?
How many processes running in task manager?

Quote from jasonmatthews :Ok, added the LFS shortcut check, which applies to all the tracks you mentioned. Let me know if that helps at all..

Hi Jason I just tested at FE1 and whatever you added is not working, its still possible to cut well off the track and gain time without penalty.

Will check KY3 asap and post back.

Quote from trebor901 :well tbh he wouldnt be the first and wont be the last person to do it, and they build such crappy products that break if you so much as use them, then they cant moan. Especially when the G25 straight from them is something like £230

The one for sale in this thread is used, and I doubt Mr Drift is giving the kind of warranty that Logitech do is he?

I would be very carefull, and think about what you are buying/selling, the word "faulty" does not appear in the thread title, even tho the prices reflect the fact that some if not all the parts are not working "as new"

Quote from JO53PHS :Right, we've got my dad's orange beacon light (halogen FTW) running off his battery jump-start pack (which is lighter than a standard car battery :tilt

All I need now is a blue dome, 13.5cm in diameter.. Anyone know where I might be able to find one?

Disco/DJ equipment suppliers should have something, you could also use a 2 or 3ltr fizzy pop bottle cut down and "blue lighting gel" or blue sharpie pen on the inside or maybe try Maplin or e-bay
