This is a complete speculation but I really don't think that Eric has forgotten cars. I think he's just not talking about them and as Flotch mentioned he's just waiting for the new tyre physics (knowing that Eric is developing only on the new tyre physics, there's a quote from him). I believe he's actually been developing new ones from time to time but there was no need to talk about them because he doesn't know when exactly they'll be released.
I feel the need to repeat myself that this is purely a speculation
The track looks awesome! That extra connection in the middle of the track will open more possibilities with open layouts, great!
Though I have the same opinion as many of us - that nearly 180° corner was converted into 2 (probably) 90° ordinary corners. I was wondering why was such a decision made. Maybe it's possible to get the idea from Eric why it was made that way? I do understand that this is Eric's work so he's free to do it however he likes and I respect him for the work he puts in. That would be my only question. Thanks!
It's funny how Jatimc is complaining about the development of LFS but doesn't read Scawen's posts... He has said that he does want to finish the tyre physics and (IIRC) it's possible that the new tyre physics will come out with this graphical update.
Again, this is not a promise that the physics will go out with the patch, it's just that he is doing his best to get it to a releasable state.
Funny thing! I was there ~2 months ago! The car was underpowered XFG (to simulate an old car) with 4 gears. It had custom pedals (sadly no clutch) and a custom all metal clunky H shifter. It was quite fun.
The sad part was that the LFS there is quite old (check the minimap) and worst of all - they didn't say that it's LFS anywhere !
It seems that many of you missed the point of the post. He does agree with you all that VOB mods that change the hitbox are not good for the community. He specifically said that it would be good to have a hitbox-check software or website where it could check and approve/disapprove mods. With that you wouldn't have the problem of weird collisions because of VOB mods.
I do agree that it's not a priority at all now. I don't think it's a good time to bring this up, Scawen needs to finish with the graphical update and hopefully with the tyre physics as well. After that and after getting the highest priority plans from the "to do" list it would be a good idea to have a discussion about this. Right now it's quite pointless I think.
In the end I do agree with TwinySkyline's idea about the website check. It would let people use their imagination and what's the problem if they have a car that THEY like without affecting anyone else? It's not like they force their car to be rendered on your screen. Saying that VOB modded cars are shit is a very stupid argument. They might be shit to you but who are you to judge other people's taste?
I don't think Scawen can update the real life cars. I believe he has the license to recreate only that specific (2008?) Scirocco, that specific RaceAbout and so on.
To add to this - if you don't want people to start spamming under a post(s) you create about progress, a great idea would be a locked thread where only you (devs overall) could post. I'm pretty sure the majority would be very thrilled to read some insights even if they are very minor
Scawen, I would suggest you to include that link on how to use the new layout editor in the news page. Might be helpful for someone who didn't follow the test patches.
Also, in the news page there's no new line between "Multiplayer" updates section and "Layout editor" updates section
E: Am I the only one who didn't receive news e-mail? The option is set to "yes, please" in the personal details.
What do you mean? That does actually sound logical. There's no reason to push this out now as the attacks have stopped if Scawen thinks something bigger can be introduced. Why make 2 consecutive test patches when he can make a bigger single one.
