Quote from [UKR] Race King :Erm... why none of them wear slicks?

Maybe there are too many new things in 2009, so they want to test them one by one to compare the different between 08 & 09 spec parts by parts.

just like "Team W" was just put on a 2009 rear wing on a 08 spec car to test

The 2009 season gets under way in Barcelona

Formula 1 teams traveled to Circuit de Catalunya for the start of the winter testing season. This winter teams have to prepare for next season as there are some major aerodynamic changes. In Spain the BMW Sauber F1 teams look best prepared on the opening day.

Testing got under way in Barcelona on Monday morning with BMW Sauber F1 showing its 2009 specifications. The Hinwill based team looks best prepared for next season so far as the team has the new front wing, which is clearly wider than this season, and the tight small rear wing fitted to their 2008 chassis.

Quote from tinvek :i read a while back that bmw have a heat exchanger system for the exhaust that developes steam at a fairly advanced stage for their road cars and they have a way of harvesting that for power or extra fuel economy but , and this makes a mockery of racing improving road cars, they won't release it yet so other f1 teams can't buy a road bmw and look at the system

you means they really use a steam engine?
How to recover heat energy on F1?

Max Mosly said Heat energy recover will on before 2013, but how to do it on F1? I don't think they'll put a steam engine on F1......

The most efficiency Heat energy recover system on automobile is GM's heat > electric chip in exhaust. it not enough to supply power to drive the car, but it can replace the generator while full engine load, it can save 10% power. So, it can make the wheel have more 10% power.

If the F1 engine have 700ps before, it will get 70ps extra power.

but.... it still not changh the heat back to kinetic energy...........

For the first time ever, a NASCAR Sprint Cup event will be paced by a hybrid, Ford's fresh-faced 2010 Fusion Hybrid to be exact. The race is scheduled to take place this Sunday at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. The box-stock Fusion hybrid will be able to travel on electricity alone for up to 47 miles per hour, which isn't quite fast enough to kick off the race, so this one will be burning some gas. One thing that the hybrid can do that the Sprint Cup cars only wish they could is travel up to 700 miles per tank of fuel. Anyway, the leafy-camouflaged hybrid will lead the race cars to the green flag (waved by none other than Mark Fields) to kick things off, after which a 2010 Ford Fusion Sport will pick up the mantle as pace car for the rest of the event.

Both the 2010 Fusion hybrid and Fusion Sport will see their formal debut at the LA Auto Show on the 19th. Both models are new for '10, with the hybrid posting a rumored best-in-class fuel mileage of at least 38 mpg in the city, while its Sport sibling gets Ford's new 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 263 hp and 249 lb-ft of torque. Best of all, every Fusion model will come standard with a six-speed automatic.

how to calculate?
How can I know how much fuel per lap need of F1?
scania

in the TV, it will display how long do the driver spend in the pit stop to count how many laps he can run.

that means there are a standed fuel consumption estimation by FIA. Can we know the estimation fuel consumption of all track or not?

Quote from Zen321 :About the transfer from calorifical energy. Yes, burning a liters of fuel produces a lot of energy through the form of heat. However, it is not the heat that powers (well indirectly it does) the cars. It is the expansion of thoses gases, which then is transformed into longitudinal force (pistons), which is then changed into rotational force (crankshaft). To the heat is not really used here (even if the heat is the cause of the expansion of gases in the cylinder).

Maybe to improve efficieny should we add a water tank around the exhaust catalyst, so that the heat will make the water boil. This would be, of course, coupled to a steam engine located in the back of the car, which would be linked to the transmission, so that we have extra efficiency ?

someone was do this---the six stroke engine & the Internal combustion steam engine in japan

Quote from tristancliffe :But it's still not that simple though. Silencing the car, or making the engine quieter almost certainly means more power is wasted as heat and friction (heat) than the noisy engine (where it is lost as sound, obviously).

The efficiency of an engine is roughly around 30% based on calorific value. But even if you burnt gasoline in perfect conditions I doubt you'd get more than 40% efficiency. Burning stuff just isn't efficient. Coal/Oil power stations aren't that much more efficient in reality, though of course they don't have to worry about the mass of the power station being moveable, and can make things strong enough to work at higher pressures.

But diesel can be 45%

however, all of Internal combustion engine will be out, air car & electrics car is the future of car. heavy vehicle with long-distance will use a high efficiency External combustion engine or Internal stream engine with electrics hybrid or hydraulic hybrid

Quote from wheel4hummer :25% of 400ps is exactly the same as 100% of 100ps. I don't see what this argument is about. I mean, 2.5% of 4000ps is 100ps, but so what? Yay, we all can perform basic math. Yay.

It is a very big different! it means you need 4 times fuel to finish the same race(or more, because you need extraX2 fuel to blance the extra weigh of the extra fuel)
scania

Quote from Zen321 :25% of 1000ps = 250ps
100% of 100ps = 100ps

So for now, the standard engine still is 2.5 time more interesting

but
If we can make 100ps from 100% of 100ps, why should we make it from 25% of 400ps?

Quote from breadfan :I'm not saying neither of +1 / -1, I'm just saying that KERS is unnecessary at the moment, since it was primarily created to improve fuel economy. Fuel in LFS costs nothing as far as I know, so there is no need for KERS.
Now you might say that KERS also provides moments of extra power...in LFS it would be the same as NOS in NFS then...a recharging power booster. Go figure.

KERS let you think how to allotment the limited power, not just a on/off system
scania

Quote from Fuse5 :zomg. what people here are failing to see is that the whole nos vs. kers thing is not meant to be an equation! It's a comparison, ffs!
Obviously they are not the same, but the effect they give is somewhat similar.

so -1. Just a stupid idea. (to implement it in F1 as well as in LFS.)

maybe cam in block 2valves/cyl carburetorengine & gasoline with Tetra-ethyl lead is very good for our earth

but I just want to have a fastest & most efficiency car.
fastest is the winner, not the coolest

Quote from tristancliffe :It's not quite like that Scania. F1 engines are loud, but they make a lot of power. Jet engines are loud, but make a lot of power. 1.2l Vauxhall engines are quiet, and couldn't pull the scab off a schoolboy's knee.

Remember that the sound energy is only a tiny proportion of the total energy in the system, most of which is in the form of heat. Barely 25% of the energy comes out as torque/power.

Having said that, the chavs* with big exhausts that reduce the output of their car do increase the amount of noise at the expense of power. All show and no go. One reason why they deserve to be laughed at.

*anyone who fits 'sports' exhausts to a road car.

Because they make more power

25% of 1000ps & 100% of 100ps, which is higher?

I'm talking about efficiency

If we can make 500ps wheel power from 50% of 1000ps energy of fuel, why do we should make it from 5% of 10000ps?

Quote from Zen321 :Not in NFSU2 (the game where your add setup options similar to LFS). You could set your NOS on a function where extra power depended on duration (more duration = less power let's say 9 more HP sec / Less duration = more power like 25hp/second)

But..... NOS in NFS is not a really NOS!!!!!
NO SYSTEM CAN CHARGE POWER BY DRIFT!!!!!!!!!!
