Quote from b1kzit :Ans yes I think Kamui did a decent job, but was appalling on the restart, Vettel had 2 seconds in the bag before he even crossed the line.

It wasn't his fault. He said in the post-race interview that he couldn't upshift:

"Actually I was stuck in gear. It was holding in first gear, it was already on the rev limiter and I couldn't shift up to second and I need to brake, so I was really surprised."

Quote from BlakjeKaas :Is Grosjean an avid LFS-player?

Yeah, he's the guy who gets banned in 8 out of 15 races.

Quote from Mustafur :Surely Kob will keep his seat for next year he has qualified in the front two rows 3 times this season, surely has to count for something.

I think Kobayashi's seat will be safe. Peter Sauber likes him. But more to the point, he's a fairly quick driver, doesn't make stupid mistakes, and has great racer's instinct. Relative to the grid, he's not elite, but capable of matching most of the second-tier drivers, IMHO.

He'd be the first pick for any team principal looking for a strong, cheap, easy-to-manage driver.

Quote from Gougoodthing :Does anybody else think that this will be another 2006? (I don't.)

Pretty sure this is permanent retirement. The old fire was never lit when he came back. IMHO, he should never have come out of retirement.

If he wants to keep racing, maybe he should move on to Le Mans. He has experience in endurance racing from his younger days, and it's probably a far lighter commitment than F1 (ie. more time with family, etc).

Quote from BlueFlame :As much as I like Hamilton as a driver, I've come to dislike him as a person.

Why?

I wasn't impressed with some of his goofy mistakes in the first two years of his career, and his complete loss of focus in 2011. But otherwise, he seems to be just another driver forced to be a PR machine no matter how much he might dislike it. As for his driving: when he's on it, he's on it like no other.

Having said all that, I'm looking forward to see how Perez might prove himself next year against Button!

Definitely time for Schumacher to quit for good. With 7 WDCs, you've had your share, champ.

Quote from GianniC :I had expected MSC in this role: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/102896

Hmmm. Schumacher has the driving pedigree, but maybe not the business or management acumen. All he's ever done is be a poster boy. Niki Lauda created and managed two successful airlines, was a consultant for Ferrari, and managed the Jaguar F1 team for a while. The only thing going against him is old age.

Arguably the most influential man in motorsport. Former FIA medical director and eminent neurosurgeon, Professor Sid Watkins has passed away at age 84.

Much of the modern safety arrangements and medical assistance in motorsport events were founded by Professor Watkins. He pioneered safety barriers, the on-circuit medical centre, the medical car, and aeromedical evacuation protocols in F1. He was also directly responsible for saving the lives of several drivers during his long career.

Rest in peace.

The car Rhys used to win Pikes Peak IS HIS DRIFT CAR !
Yes, it was modified but it is still THE CAR HE USES FOR DRIFTING.

No, Millen used a Pikes Peak car, not a drift car. It had new body kit, wings, splitters, turbo charger, suspension, and brakes.

Calling it a "drift car", is like calling a Group A rally car a "road car".

Also pace of Redbulls in both todays practices wasn't quite fast, so i wonder, if the forced change in their engine mapping costs them so much, or they're just playing games...

Discuss.

Red Bull only ran medium tyres in FP2 (not sure about FP1). Most of the other teams ran both medium and softs, and set their fastest times on softs.

I think Red Bull has a few tenths up their sleeve when they switch to softs. However, I think Ferrari and McLaren are certainly faster overall.

I don't think it's as vital as you make out, but probably it is something that takes time to get used to.

Paul Drayson competed in Le Mans with sight in only one eye. But he was born that way, so perhaps his functioning eye was better than most.

Binocular vision is important, but probably not critical, to racing.
