Quote from al heeley :Way back in Papy's nascar 2003 (and probably earlier) too much close drafting on the superspeedways could cause cooling problems. Pull out of the slipstream a little and chill your water a bit, all part of the real-life tactics, these little touches add a lot to the realism of a game.

NASCAR Heat is the same way, and you can blow a motor having the throttle pinned in the red zone to long...which I think LFS should have. It would eliminate the 'ridge racer' type drivers I've been noticing on the STCC servers going from top gear to 1st gear instead of the brake peddle to slow them down.

I made a funny discovery.

STCC server, UF1's at South City Classic, normal direction... I was taken out going into turn one (tight left hander) pretty heavy by what seems like 10 cars at the start of the race. So I pited and spectated the the remainder (entire) race. I can get into the low 1:03's, so I watched the first place car that was running consitant 1:02's to see what he was doing that I wasnt.

So running in first place getting 1:02 after 1:02, the only thing I found him to be doing that was that different from me, was upon entering turn one (tight left hander) he was braking at the 50m mark and slamming his car into 1st gear to slow him down...red line from hell! 4th gear to 1st gear as fast as he can, no rev matching using the engine to brake would have been disaster for a motor doing it lap after lap in real life. Now yes, its a sim, so wheres the simulated smoke when his motor would have let go?

I tried it and I cant do it for whatever reason, and if there werent any rev limiters or had proper engine malfunctions, this driver and anyone else who drives like that wouldnt be able to. Thats not sim racing IMO, more like ridge racer.

Yes, the blue flag may come out to early, but...
  1. Use your head! If your entering the track in the middle of the race, try and go on when theres no one around you. Dont join in and fight with the other guys when your not in a position to get anything else but last place result.
  2. Use your head! If your in a race and you are being lapped by the lead cars, either go faster or get out of the way ASAP. You cant complain if your not fast enough not to be lapped, your just a pain in the ass at that point. Its your responsibility to not get in the way when being lapped.
Not that I support punting people off, but if Im lapping a car and he's not doing what he can to move, you got 3 corners before its go time. :bump:

just some sketches i made more comming soon

You have to be joking!

How about some 4-door sedans, with huge 19 inch wheels, slammed to the ground and 300hp...something like the 1995 BTCC. Not far off the FXO really, but twice as good.

Quote from Becky Rose :I only watched the first few corners but you know what it reminded me of?

You know when you watch a child pretending to drive a bus or something and they continually turn their imaginery wheel left and right - because they havnt yet realised that vehicles can drive in a straight line...

Cheeky...kinda like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gM_oNJMS5H4

Its Gabriele Tarquini in the 1994 BTCC driving an Alfa Romeo 155 as he chases down a Ford Mondeo...oh how I miss the SuperTouring days of the BTCC.

Now please correct me if Im way off, but if LFS is causing the dude in that vid to move the wheel back and forth like that in the same fashion (maybe not as much) as Tarquini's 155, then isnt the sim doing what its supposed to do...simulating?

I youtubed a bunch of onboard vids...Schumacher drives the same way so I dont see how your comment was justified unless you were trying to be cute.

Quote from Bob Smith :The blue flag message pops up too early as it is...

Totally agree on that. If Im given the BF, I immediately look behind to see how close so I can get out of the way...normally the lapping car is still a fair bit behind.

But what about yellow flags? Doesnt a yellow mean caution and no passing in the corner its being displayed in?

If flags are to be addressed and people want true to life rules, the flags would have to appear on the track being waved and not a simple pop-up on your screen...especially for yellow flags.

I cant even begin to explain it from my perspective of what makes it better then anything else...it just is. The look and feel of the game is addicting; my girlfriend will agree with that, she hates that I play it so much.

Another factor that hits with LFS over all other sims especially console ones, is that you go online and theres guaranteed to be someone else to race. No having to wait for your buddy to come online or come over, race a stranger and beat or get beat.

As for all the "experts" that say this aspect isnt real, that aspect isnt real...you guys really bug the shit out of me. I cant complain about anything regarding LFS (except my need for motorcycles ). Does that mean your better a better racer then I am, who knows, but I just take it for what it is and have fun.

LOVE THIS GAME!

Even if your an experienced driver you can get caught out.

I left the pits to join a race and get a few laps in before the restart. I got the blue flag and pulled over to let a racer by. I gave him loads of room when he passed so then I began to pick up my pace. I caught up to the guy but didnt want to pass him as I wasnt in the race, so I stayed behind for a number of laps. I got a good run off a corner and was right behind him going into the next corner...when he slammed on the brakes well before the 200m braking marker! SLAM! Into the back of him I go and he turns around and gets mad at me!

No penalty system will really work for isolated incidents. Only over a number of races to see if thats the driver is a shit or not. We all just have to driver maturely.

Quote from PaulC2K :Plenty of people have paid for S3, you dont hear them demanding S3 be released do you? I paid up my £36 before S1 was released, and i'd bet maybe a thousand others did around then.

If you'd been around longer than a month you'd have realised this is nothing more than the usual goings on here, people are always asking when the next feature is coming out, someones always making the suggestion that we should have spinners, NOS and fatboy exhaust pipes, and basically 75% of the posts on here are repeated nonsense. If the Developement team took any of this to heart they'd have ditched LFS before it even hit S1 stages let alone now.

This specific thread that you've chose to post in, saying 'Perhaps they dont want any extra money because then we would expect faster updates' is about the suggestion that if they paid more would it speed up progress, so yes i guess if the dev team did take people up on that offer then a few people would kinda expect faster updates, thats what the idea would be not to pay to speed things up while they take just as long.
Its people throwing ideas around, not making demands, just tossing ideas back n forth as to ways they could help, in this case it wasnt really going to work as it goes against what the Dev team have always stood for, progress at their pace, not at the whim of customers or publishers.

No need to get upset but you went from one direction to the other.

If people have paid for S3 already, cool, good for you, how can I pay? I wouldnt be demanding its release even if I paid, because Im an understanding and open minded individual. Others on the other hand, arent. I was just putting myself in the shoes of the developers, and of all of a sudden all these donations started flooding in to hurry up the next phase. The demands on improvements are alot as it is, and some are just outrageous! Now the same people with these stupid ideas have already donated money to have their lame improvements implemented...no thanks!

I say buy the S3 license for its release, then take what they give you based on their own creations and some positive input from the community.

Donations...damn I offered to fund LFS but they never replied! haha

LFS is 3 guys remember. Perhaps they dont want any extra money because then we would expect faster updates. We would demand it if we've already paid for the services.

They are watching and listening to our suggestions for this, suggestions for that...no matter how stupid some are. When they get to them, you'll know because it will be released.

I wouldnt push it, because they might turn around and say screw you all, cant make everyone happy all the time and call it quits. Its 3 guys...3 guys, not a corporation.

Simulating a cheetah and chasing a gazelle .

Will the gazelle already been injured and or will the Cheetah be with friends...so many factors you need to think about with a wild life simulator. Click here to see what I mean.

Quote from George Kuyumji :I'm sure Scavier knows how important and great real life Tracks would be in LFS, its just like real life cars, and I'm sure they will come at some point in the future.

Perhaps not. Maybe because of the licensing issues with using real tracks and cars, the developers couldnt give two shits. Hence why LFS was built on the current platform of fantasy tracks and cars. Maybe all this discussion is a waste of time BECAUSE of the licensing issues with using real tracks and cars, it simply aint gonna happen.

Maybe Im wrong...but there had to have been an original reason why real life tracks werent created from the start of LFS when there are loads of other sims with pretty accurate data to reproduce in LFS. As far as I know and I know someone will correct me if Im wrong, but licensing of cars and tracks is why we race FXO's instead of a Honda Civic or Accord and why we have made up circuits.

Quote from evilgeek :real tracks are certainly appealing. it's fun to watch a race on TV and actually recognize the corners having driven them in a game, and i often wish that i could drive the LFS cars on the GTR tracks (because the GTR cars are undrivable, imho).

but i also understand how impractical it is to have real tracks in LFS at this point. adding content that doesn't directly relate to the development of the game-engine is a waste of time. ie, i would only expect to see a new track in lfs if it contained a feature that tested some new physics. furthermore, working in the software development biz myself, i know how time consuming it is to integrate code branches back into the mainline, and with such a small dev team working on the core functionality, having "help" from the community would actually slow them down.

so as much as i would like to see real tracks eventually, i'll wait patiently for the game-engine to be finished first.

Quote from MAGGOT :Can't really make out anything from the Ebisu page. Anyone know of an on-board vid?

Sugo looks quite nice, the elevation changes look like fun. I'd have to see an on-board vid or try a relatively accurate version in a game to say whether or not i like it though.

Quote from George Kuyumji :We have some really great tracks in LFS, but KY Oval is a sad excuse for an Oval Track.

Good. Ovals are lame and theres no fun in them. Michael Schumacher had to stop himself from bashing NASCAR drivers at the Race of Champions a few years back. "They think they are going fast, but..." he said. Laughed my ass off.

Quote from Gimpster :I personaly do not feel that with todays technology we can simulate a morotcycle in such a way for it to feel as natural in the simulation as a car currently can feel in a simulation. So much of the bike experance is the physical sensation and the way the g-forces play on you and the bike. Sure its posible to simulate but as a biker I woudl never use them in LFS.

You cant simulate g-forces in a car either.

Quote from EeekiE :Yeah without question as I was one of them. It's just a natural thing due to the exposure it gets.
It's not so much you think GT4 is perfect, it's more about not knowing there anything better out there. Compared to NFS, Ridge Racer etc, it DID seem like somewhat of a simulator. Also bear in mind alot of the Playstation Generation from the early ones weren't even driving yet. I certainly wasn't

I agree, and I also was caught out at first. GT5 will also do the same with the masses. May not be up to snuff as far as a real sim, but the slicker then shit graphics and all those pretty JGTC cars will help the game sell millions.

Now my GT series only gets use by my 7 and 8 year old boys...that tells you how much of a sim it really is...or that my kids are f@#king brilliant!

Quote from EeekiE :That's just stupid, because no I can't. I can afford a £24 licence and £50 wheel, but I can't afford regular trips and time off to visit germany and spend hours on the ring.

Also, why would you be so against the implementation of a track you perhaps wouldn't use? Are you saying there should only be one opinion of what tracks should be there? Or that you regularly and equally use every single layout in there already? Perhaps we should remove some? Perhaps we should ditch the rallycross tracks, along with the skidpad because I never use them. Just because you wouldn't use it, doesn't mean nobody else will, and there are ALOT of people that would use it, myself included.

Does no-one else here just sometimes pick up LFS and drive for no reason other than the love of driving? The ring is pretty much the ultimate B-road, and is now a baseline for any reputable sports car. I'd love to be able to whisk an LX6 around it for nothing more than fun, while learning the most famous toll road in the world.

Point one: theres an IF at the beginning of that sentence. IF I lived closer to my local track I know Id be on it more. So sim in the world can replace real racing

Point Two: this thread was to determine who want the ring, no? And you are correct in saying there are tracks in LFS I use more, but that doesnt mean to bin them...now your being silly. I said it wouldnt matter to me because I like the new refreshing fantasy tracks over the driven to death tracks of past sims.

Point three: agreed, but MY choice just wouldnt be the ring and I prefer the company of others. If I want a Sunday drive, I'll get in my car.
