Sounds odd, did you try other jumbo frame settings than the maximum? I have mine set to 4096, which seems to give the best performance overall for me.

To get decent speeds over gigabit ethernet you should get some good quality network cards (not Realtek), integrated solutions often seem to be more or less crappy. Enabling jumbo frames might help if the switch supports them (the specs dont say so it might not, propably has a very small buffer as well since the size is not mentioned).

I use PCI Intel PRO/1000GT adapters an a D-Link DGS-1008D switch, they typically do about 600-800Mbps in practice.

Cant remember (I was 4 years old back then) but it may have been Formula 1 simulator.

Quote from Stang70Fastback :Or is there a way to still play it.

Buy the movie, throw the disc away and then download a HD rip of it off the internet and burn that to a DVD :P

Quote from JasonJ :How about an estimate now sir?

Same, 2012. Maybe 2013 - 2014 if it's the last of the list to be done (I'd love to be wrong but I'm afraid I might not)

Quote from JasonJ :Scawen already posted that he will address this very problem soon. It was at the top of the list so it has high priority.

Ok good, I'll change my estimate to 2012 then

I believe a "standard" easy method to deal with the issue is, that when you detect the collision and penetration (ie. the car is a certain distance inside the barrier) you will "go back" in time using smaller time steps to find the point and time of collision with much higher accuracy and then calculate the appropriate behaviour for that collision, taking into account the time that has already passed since it occured. Currently what looks like is being done is a typical "push the object away from the collision" when the objects intersect, which, with deep penetration, leads to very large forces that throw the car around.

It's pretty much a non-issue for any game today really, maybe around 2015 we'll finally see it fixed in LFS aswell :P

Anyone know if in Windows 7 it is as in Vista that if you want to have the 'classic' look, you will have to disable the desktop compositing (or "aero" whatever the PR department named it)? The composite desktop idea is nice but not with those awfully ugly and messy themes. (Or are there some more sane looking themes available?)

Propably just network congestion. 3G is acceptable for mobile use, but as a "main" internet connection for desktop use it just isn't a very good choice. (High latency and available bandwidth depends very much on how many other people happen to be using the same base station at the time)

...and by now the cool factor propably has already worn off and you have realised it is an entirely unpractical way of "mousing".

Quote from another thread I posted earlier:

Quote from Kegetys :I think a more simplier system where you would just have pre-made racing classes you can set the server to would be better.

For example, you could have something like:
- Trackday class
- B race class
- A race class
- Professional race class

The class the server is set to would define various parameters for the cars. For example in trackday class you would have the cars at stock specs, and you could do very little settings tweaking (Adjust tire pressures, etc. that are very simple to do in real life). In the race classes you could have an incremential amount of race-performance tuning done to the cars like extra seats etc. removed, engine tweaked for a bit for more power, better tire options and more settings to tweak. In the professional class you could have (almost?) as much settings as you do currently...

Of course, some cars should be restricted to certain classes only, like you couldn't have a BF1 in a trackday class race. Race rules could also become stricter as you go to the higher classes (black flags, no passing on yellows, etc.) and pit stops would become faster due to more crew (The time it currently takes to do a pit stop in a BF1 is rather dumb) Maybe the GTR versions of the XRT etc. could also be "removed" as unique cars, but exist as race tuned versions of them in the higher classes.

You could just be running low on memory on the card, 256MB is not that much for 8x AA if you are using large screen resolutions.

Long article, but didn't really contain anything that special and I felt it left some important things out. Also had some odd conclusions in my opinion.

What I guess has happened is that the people of that website have heard the same news, that a "G27" is coming and nothing else. Then they have photoshopped some pics themselves to go with it in order to make the news more "interesting" to get more ad views/clicks.

Proper load cell brake sounds great, though 200e for the pedals alone is a bit expensive.

Next, a force feedback clutch pedal?

Quote from the_angry_angel :I'm not necessarily disputing that, but it isn't a 100% valid setup (assuming that they don't own that legacy address space), /technically/ and very, very broadly speaking.

The whole 150.140.0.0 - 150.140.255.255 range is owned by "University of Patras Network" in Greece, so it would seem to be a correct setup (And, most importantly, set up just the way the internet is supposed to work )

Quote from JamesF1 :The problem here is that DDS textures use loss-less compression (DXT1-5 - exhibiting larger file sizes)

DXT are not lossless at all - they can cause quite a difference actually in non-optimal conditions.
