yeah

where does BL come in?

i have a feeling he was having loads of fun writing that post with all the realistic terms of how he loves that building so much, but now he's realized his mistake and is pretending he missed it i do it all the time...... haha

But i also like the building and grass, if you re - read my first post i said that the big slippy blank area where the kart track and lorries are would be a good place to extend.

Shift + U and have a look around, you'll see. set the start position at the far left corner on other side of the fence, and you can see how big (albeit slippy) that area is.

here it is, i was hoping for a little more intrest but i guess i'll have to assume there arent many karters playing lfs out there, or they just dont visit the forums.

here it is. i added extra barriers to stop cheating, and ps dont go wide thinking you can steal the runoff for more speed i put restricted zones there to make lap times more realistic

Request to game developers [autox area size]

Hello all, this is a suggestion but i'm not sure if i should have posted here or in improvement suggestions... :

I have made so many tracks on the auto x editor on the auto x area that they fill the track selection page in game,

I race them all at least twice per week i think that its great to be able to sculpt my own tracks excatly as i want them,

I have created many of my fav. kart tracks in the UK on the editor, using google earth to get the length of straights and degree of corners just right, but all the way through making all these layouts i've always had the problem of space.

I spend alot of time at home, offline, pouring hours of patient time into my layouts, (that i can't host because my Internet isn't great enough & i dont have the knowledge),

but i always get to a stage where i have to re-work it a bit or change one corner becuase of space limits.

I know that the auto x area is not really meant to be that big, it's not a main feature of the game but im sure im not the only one with this problem and i'd love to see a bigger area in the future, either in a patch or in S3.

i can see a massive area that has a kart track in it and a few lorries oppositte the buildings that is accessable but not drivable, this could be a good sized place for layouts..?

the layout file sizes are not ig either, only a few kilobytes, with over 500 objects it takes under 20 seconds to load online, maybe an increase in object numbers too!

it's just my opinion based on my gaming, i don't want angry responses
Forest Edge Kart Track UK

hi all

i've made the excellent kart track: forest edge immediatley after returning from racing there on saturday, but i don't know wether to post it since i hav'nt seen much intrest in kart tracks in lfs. if i get a good number of responses to this post i'll whack the layout up here with a load of screens, im not at home atm so i thought i'd post this.

made it as much to scale as possible, i have great fun on it, basically a replica of the real track as good as i can get it, with whole of paddock and grid/dummy grid, scales where karts are weighed after, start finish line, route checkers, restricted zones (as karters might know there is a lot of run off at forest edge it would be abused without restrictions.), awaiting a response..

here's the real track, lfs autocross version is almost exact..

http://www.karting.co.uk/Imgs/CircuitDiagrams/ForestEdge.gif

i want to also find out how many karter's there are playing lfs since i've made around 7 other kart tracks that have real lap times & split equivalent to Junior Rotax Max 125cc.

Shall i post layout!

nice movie! i'll be kind 'cos no-one else has

try using view smoothing on the SHIFT + U menu, or try using this menu, its alot better than using preset camera movments. you get to position the camera whereever you want.

try breaking the movie down a bit rather than one long uncut scene.

nice work so far, dont give up

Your drfiting was good!

can you shove a barrier in there on demo servers?

anyone played F1 on ps3? the bloom on that is so fantastic, set yourself up on time trial on somewhere like silverstone, its too good, the sun glares through the grandstands and past buildings to make it just like real sunset racing.. and going under bridges... let me just say i did it from 6pm until 2am sitting 1m from 42inch screen and i have never felt anything as realistic as racing in real life (karting) on a test day at around 6pm in the summer. just the same, minus Gforces, wind, but adrenaline was present.

EDIT

thanks

had the same problem

i had the same problem, except i could only view my vids that were imported and not the timeline, (only sound played from timeline) this was about 2 years ago and just checked it's still happening

i used to make hundreds of movies with my mates for youtube and also edit karting movies + lfs movies, but stopped immediatley as i found this problem. it really is a bummer. i have no idea how to fix it, except now for the last 2 years i've moved onto Adobe Premiere pro 2 and could not stand going back.

you're not alone! there are probably others with this problem too. i even tried downloading a newer MM but it didnt work, however there are some other good video editing programs you can get for free legally that use keyframes (really cool things that help with effects, timing, positions, everything) that will be great for lfs. i read about one in a pc mag ages ago, it came on the cover disk i'll try and find the name of it for you and a good download place. but not now im pushed for time.

i know how you feel!

loads of other people did a little " dedicated to the makers of the game" so i thought i would. i did it ages ago, and didnt have time to upload it, so here it is now:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=v4A4qEthzRI

i am aware of most of the errors, but wouldnt be annoyed if they were picked out again, (but not a repeat of last time i uploaded a vid :tilt also i am not very happy with how it ends, its a bit sloppy but here you go.

ps i also dont like the static fuzzyness at the start and end at the time i thought it was clever effect on adobe premiere but now it's irritating me

what do you think? more serious and slow than my others

pps dont watch if you hate slowmo movies. with bad quality. sorry

hi all

ive been looking all over the net and have tried out about 3 different dodgy looking programs involving game design or development, just to try and find out how you would go about making a game like this. i know it would be extremely difficult with physics and all, but im not talking about today's standard just something like the 2nd or 3rd release of lfs.

the programs that i've tired have given me the option to build the terrain for the game, so ive played about with that for a bit quite fun, does lfs work this way too? a terrain mould first? then i added textures but they failed, and also i attempted to build a few objects, which also ended in failure

i have so much patience though, and wont give up on this epic pointless task to build myself something, but the only guides i can find are for RPG or adventure (World of warcraft style) enviroments no vehicles.

can anyone refer me to any useful information here in the forums or elsewere because i am now addicted to googling words like "race game development" / "vehicle object design" "terrain for racetrack" and not getting anywere.

ohh yeah to make matters worse i don't know much about game design. im a website designer, so have knowledge of, er, the wrong field, if you like, of computing.. i'd like some info on what programs to use mainly.

please dont tell me to give up as i said i'm a patient person who wont be giving up on this, dont direct me to something like this

also, i have been reading around in the programming section since posting this, and wondering if it should actually be in there.... i've read so many articles in there but most go over my head. like walking into mathmatical phycics degree at six years old. it wont work.

ive read alot of this post : http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=31648 but am still currently bewildered... is there a simpler way? to me it seems as if the world of programming is like before WYSIWYG , i know i havent done much research but it looks as if manual programming ( i.e wrinting a website in notepad ) has not got any visual user programs ( like for instance dreamweaver or frontpage instead of notepad.) i could (and most probably am) be stating the truth here or there could be hundreds of them. but that's wat this post is for, i really dont know. im 80% sure that this should be in programming section!

Little competition at skidpad
james_bskt
S3 licensed
hi

sorry if this is in the wrong place firstly, i think that the sumo thing at skidpad was here so mine's here too

well, the challenge is, to drift round the course that i have made in one continuous drift, that is either skidmarks the whole way round (from designated places) or with the sliding noise the whole way...

below are some screenies and the layout, fire it up drive a warm up lap (yes lap, it does re-connect to the start) and you'll see.

you start from where the first line crosses the track, around 4ish seconds in, and the finish is the second one. There is a split time that pops up when you corss the start, and the finish line is... the finish ~ kind of confusing just try it out its wquite fun

It's not really a competition since i've nothing to offer the winner , also it's not really that hard, but i thought i'd try to entertain the community

enjoy! please lots of feedback on what you think

erm, i think that you could post a replay file here if you can do it, or fraps it or something they're the only valid ways you can prove you've done it enjoi!

EDIT

here's a link for a video showing the track... i wasnt actually drifting in the vid just cruising round to show you guys...

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hHQh-ampkSg

enjoy! (for the third time)
