Still a problem even on 0.6E with a wire connection that does 30/26Mbit/s at the moment of being kicked out due to MP replay out of stash space with 10-15ms ping.

Yes my connection could hiccup, but it his very unlikely and I did see the car updating fine until the point when it kicked me out. I could immediately connect back to the server, no issue what so ever.

Please fix this finally. How can it lag for so long I don't understand either. Everything is updating fine so there clearly is a valid connection.

It's one of the things we say: "ONLY IN LFS" this can happen.

Lost connection to host

Nooooooooooo!

You gotta be kiddin' me. I just got a new provider and have 0, ZERO problems but no, the first network related problem again has to be in LFS.

Alright LFS, goodbye. I'm sick of the network rubbish and disconnects.
This is not a network problem anymore, that's some LFS server (or server connection) or client nonsense.

I could immediately get back on server and browse web, no network hiccup anywhere. No computer hiccup, nothing.

And before they limit the connection to 30/30Mbit/s and I could test the full speed for a week it would do

or even more on upload, below 10ms ping. Tiny little worse in prime time, lets say 85/50Mbit/s 7-15ms. 10 MB/s downloads, putting photos on online drive like it's a local harddrive, etc.

So I don't really get it, MP Replay : Out of stash space...
Guess somebody should finally update the network layer in LFS.

Because no matter how good connection or any hardware one has it will fail on busy league servers way too often anyway.

Surprisingly cargame.nl holds pretty much no problem.

What do you guys use for the server connection/host provider?

In LFS it shows around 40ms ping and that's kind of around the lowest it shows on online servers.

---

Oh BTW. In the tight right hand corner after going over the bridge around lap 10?, a car got hit to the side and rolled over by a car that was overtaking me on the inside. I think a too fast entry into the tight corner when he car was overtaking me. Nothing I could do, I was surprised myself he went a little too fast in there and managed to bump the car one position in front of me.

Unlucky man too.

The older packaging in a .zip file was better, just sayin'.
No need to install anything, which just clutters the Win register, makes icons and what not.

Yes LFS from lfs.net is safe to install on supported systems.
Just be sure to get the installer from lfs.net or it's mirrors.

Quote from edge3147 :Because you are going over the limiter, it is trying to slow the car down by cutting the gas. When you disengage the clutch, you are cutting the connection from the turning wheels to the engine which causes the car to stall since there is no gas being supplied from being over the limiter.

I am not sure about how these work in real racing cars but this is how it works in LFS apparently.

Yes and I think it works pretty badly in LFS.

Is there a proper bug tracker for LFS?
Or is it so closed software it does not have a public bug tracker?
Speed limiter stalls engine

Ok, one weird thing about speed limiter (GTR cars or any other speed limiter enabled car).

Drive to over 100km/h. Engage speed limiter AND CLUTCH. Hold clutch. Doesn't matter what gear, car will coast, engine will go down in rpms, until it STALLS.

I have no idea if this is normal behavior for real racing cars, but to me it seems very strange that a speed limiter would override even the minimum gas applied so the engine keeps it's minimum revs.

This is similar to driving in pits on full gas and hitting clutch. The engine refuses to rev up which is annoying, the speed limiter PREDICTS the needed gas to reach speed limit and cuts off the throttle in advance.
Again, seems LFS weird specific.

Can we have cars not stall because engine refuses to give it minimum gas?
Also you can step on gas while being on speed limiter doing over 80km/h and holding the clutch, no gas will be applied at all. And not even the minimum so the engine stalls.

Gai-Luron, your source code for version 1.12 is older than 1.11 that I still have. I've copied the changes from insim4.cs and have found no other connection related changes. When connecting in TCP mode it refused to connect with an error when the port was already open in LFS. I've started LFS, started LFSStats and opened the port, it was ok, but then quit LFSStats and it would not connect anymore when run again, it would write an error out.

It seems to work fine in UDP mode though.

And I'm going to fix some things related to new insim version but not the connections. If it works in UDP, it works in UDP and I'm fine with that.

This the bug I got when LFS quit, it was in UDP and working fine, until LFS was closed and the connection died.

The following error occurred:
Index was outside the bounds of the array.
Graph
at Graph.RprData.Stats()
at Graph.RprData..ctor(String fn)
at Graph.Graph.GenerateGraph()
at LFSStat.LFSClient.exportRaceStats(String datFile)
at LFSStat.LFSClient.Loop(Connect insimConnection)
at LFSStat.LFSClient..ctor(String scriptfilename, Boolean debugmode)
at LFSStat.LFSStat.Main(String[] Args)

The reason may be that it tried to export stats (exportOnSTAte enabled) when LFS quit. And it can't handle the dropped connections or some lack of information to generate the stats.

And the password for practice session? So we can go on the server to practice online?
The older passwords used to work but it doesn't seem to right now.

Track BL1R, 5 people on the server, does not seem like another event or private training. Or maybe it is.

Anyway it would be nice to have access for practice

Yeah that would be nice, I'm right now making maybe 3rd collection of all these mods and it seems to pay off now as MOST of the stuff is offline by all the years and LFS dies, really dies. Scraping and looking on what I saved years back. LFSDB is dead, sites go down like flies and so do files on them.
LFSDB was nice, it had a lot of mods there, dunno why it went caput.

Lynce's site and downloads are 99% dead. For the packs so far I managed to find 1-2 downloads from the hordes of useless mirrors there were. One year Lynce's site works and it has the stuff, next year, gone.

So much work from Lynce and other modders but no reliable source for others to get their work.

Session of Incident (Qualifying, Race): Race
Protestor's LFS Lap: 53-57 (#036), 54-58 (#116)
Timecode of Incident (EITHER MPR time OR Time of Day): 1:28:00 - 1.33:35
Your Car number: 036
Protested Car number(s): 116
Brief description of incident:

(laps are numbered from car #116 perspective)

#116 in lap 54 behind second split bumps into #036 instead of making a properly presented overtaking maneuver to overtake a lapped car.

#116 follows in distance in laps 55 and 56 without making any overtaking maneuvers or even being close such as in draft. In lap 57 #116 brakes better and gets close in T1 but there is no space to let it pass just at corner apex. It did not present an overtaking attempt before the T1 corner in lap 57. On the T1 exit #116 loses speed and is not close enough to pass while #036 makes room by driving to the right side for #116 to overtake. Therefore #036 rejoins racing line at a next corner. #116 is still not in draft or otherwise close enough or making any overtaking attempts. On second main straight it again does not present any overtaking maneuver.

In #116 lap 58, #116 asks for perm, probably disliking being unable to overtake #036 blue flagged car without making any properly presented overtaking maneuvers. #036 lets #116 pass in T1 by slowing down, despite #116 not being close or presenting on overtaking maneuver at all.
#036 rejoins racing line and lets #116 go.

IMHO #116 did not "show nose" to properly present an overtaking maneuver.
And instead in one instance bumped into #036 on purpose and made a contact.

Quote from malcomax :you are the real fool
contrails send you off track and under blue flag for 4 laps was not corrected!

Contrails???

I think if there was an issue they could have just forced me to pits or spec me. I knew I'm at the end of field and had blue flags showing correctly as well as position in race.

Sorry but I can't affect if LFS is being LFS and it showed you a blue flag when it wasn't supposed to.

Ah, I see it now, you've made no attempt to overtake, instead you bumped into me, then got close on straight so I let you pass in T1, slowing down for you.

To clear up the blue flags for you and others who maybe expect the blue flag cars to slow down significantly in advance to let you pass at first sight of a blue flag when you're still far behind. It is not so. You have to make an overtaking maneuver, blue flaged cars then have to let you pass and not defend. Keeping racing line and normal race speed.

Quote :K. Blue Flags
1. Drivers who are being lapped are expected to drive a normal racing line and must
avoid maneuvers that might confuse lapping cars.
1.1) Lapped drivers must yield position upon the first properly-presented overtaking
maneuver by a lapping car.
A properly-presented overtaking maneuver implies
the lapping drivers is close behind the lapping driver, "shows a nose" to indicate
his intentions
, and follows through cleanly while leaving sufficient room for the
lapped car.
1.2) Lapped drivers must not defend against overtaking maneuvers presented by
lapping cars. A defensive maneuver will result in a drive-through penalty. A
defensive maneuver resulting in contact will result in a stop-go penalty.
1.3) Drivers who have been successfully lapped must not attempt an immediate repass
unless it can't be avoided.
2. Lapping drivers must use caution when overtaking lapped cars. Over-aggressive or
poorly-presented overtaking attempts resulting in contact will result in a stop-go
penalty.

3. Drivers found guilty of multiple instances of blocking in a single race - along with
drivers found guilty of multiple incidents resulting from a lack of respect for lapped
cars - may face penalties, series probation or exclusion from the season.

Sorry #069 Bernat, on start, I did brake fully and had a gap in case this happens. Why did you guys stop the field? At one point going fast 100km/h, closing some gaps, then bam somebody brakes again and it goes down to 40km/h or lower, bumper on bumper. I had cars close behind and they hit me too and that pushed me into you once more. I was surprised how messy the start was. Have been on flying starts before, double file, but it was cleaner I have to say.

In replay, there is a car on the side, then there are some cars double file, some next to each other. I guess single file was not enforced? And grid not checked?

Making another lap around the track so people get properly into single file for race start? *shrug*
Or keeping cars on limiter.

Never get it why use flying starts compared to standing ones. More mess I think.

After a bit of racing and overtaking...
Lap 20, my computer froze On sixth gear it went into a wall, had a gap behind me, I hope I did not collide with somebody, can't control anything, screen and sound freezes, hit the brake and clutch and just wait if it comes back or not. Usually LFS kicks me because it's a big lag for it to keep the connection. It did not this time. Headed to pits to repair the car and do a mandatory pitstop (all tires and refuel). Car handled ok but I decided to repair it, to not to be forced later to repair the car by administration or due to bad handling as this was hard to asses in the few corners.
Sorry if it caused tires or a car on track and a collisions with somebody, though I think the car disappears for the time being frozen. Reappeared on a side of the road so I rejoined, letting cars pass.

As far as blue flags go, yes I did see them a lot and IMHO let any car that tried to overtake pass safely and quickly.

#042 in lap 41 on second straight, blinking, not in draft and not trying to overtake. Then on main straight you get draft and you overtake, I don't defend anything and keep my line and did ease off the throttle on straight so you can safely pass. As there was another car behind I kept my line and aimed for the inside of T1 so I can be overtaken on the outside. Do not understand your complain about blue flag. You've made an attempt to overtake and I let you safely overtake. As there was another car right behind I let it go as well not to impair any of your impending fights for positions. Guess the issue was that I did not hold up the car behind?

In one of the last laps, somebody instead of overtaking just bumped me. Silly really, could have just taken the inside, I would slow down either way not to fly out on the outside line trough the corner and you would have overtaken safely.

1) qualifying was fine, I think it's simple, get in pit and wait for clearance, forgot to send setup, no clearance you will get asked for it, etc. just wait for instructions
Don't know how long the qualification took but outlap + 2 hotlaps was fine. Saves time trying 30min to squeeze on the track and get few clean and fast laps while others may be warming their tires, cruising around, ...
Qualification was good and on smaller tracks I think it will work well.

2) check pings, if somebody jumps around it's not pretty when driving so close, did not affect me much but I guess others it may have

3) start was fine, if only people would remember where they are supposed to stand and do not take places after cars that disappeared, thus moving the grid, always remember what side, what car is in front and what car is on the side

4) people need to learn to lift off and wait for better place for overtaking, it's not always the best to overtake immediately as one drafts behind somebody at that precise point on track with the traffic around, the races are not a sprint, take your time, Lap 1-4 does not win you the race, staying in the race after Lap 1-4 can. Drive safely.

Quote from Bmxtwins :car 36 moved to the low line in the uphill sweeper and then upon exit committed to what seemed to be the middle line. Car 21 may have judged that 36 would either stay committed to the middle or jump to the low line on entry. Due to this the incident would be a racing accident. Car 36 drastically changed lanes it seems and there was slight overlap (not enough to warrant track position, but enough to keep a heads up)However car 21 did not have the time to lift out. We caution car 36 for what seemed to be a lane change and officially warn the driver of the 21 to use more caution when racing in a group and on lap one.

Understood, will try to be more definite with lanes. Going from right hand to left hand turn, at one point one is always in the middle and going from one apex to the next one.

Session: Race
Timecode and lap: 10:40 (in saved replay), Lap 2/24, time of lap: 1:26.50, location: just at second split
Cars involved: 36, 21
Description of incident:

Leading 36 drives racing line and aims for apex at a corner after second split. 21 with a draft and slightly higher speed tries to sneak into left side because right side is occupied by 66. Instead of reducing speed and following, 21 makes a move into left which is inevitably closed as 36 approaches next corner. 21 did not have enough overlap (contact was by front wing of 21 with rear tire of 36) before corner entry and made an unsafe overtake that resulted in spin of both cars and 36 hitting a wall. 21 wrongly assessed available space on left and tried to squeeze in between grass and 36, leaving no room for lag either. Overtaking attempt was impossible without 36 as a leading car making more space on left for 21 to pass. IMHO leading car is not required to make space for cars behind and overtaking cars have responsibility to overtake safely without making leading cars change direction to avoid collision.

Quote from vinsu :and if you like the FXR, and want to deal with the best, you can not participate in this championship?, that is, you can but you will not be able to enter a date, because I'm sure you could even get inside the 31, restrictions are not well, so I've always said that they should not have put the FXR to choose, so there would be no complaints.

Sure it would be nice if there were any balanced cars in LFS, but there really are not. Neither STDs or TBOs are balanced. One always has to consider all options when entering a race/league, to pick a vehicle best suited for the races/league.

On a straight line, XR2 24%(270kW, 24%) is around equal to FX2 20%(287kW, 19.75%). It's because 4WDs have 80% efficiency compared to 85% of 2WDs in LFS. Locked or open differentials, LFS doesn't care.
4WDs have more traction during cornering though and that's where FX gains a lot to compensate for the lower top speed.

XR2 24% ==> 229.50kW
FX2 23% ==> 219.20kW
FZ2 20% ==> 223.55kW

And there is more, aerodynamics, tires, weight balance. Raw power is not everything. Have fun balancing

Maybe there will be once an FX league for the lovers of 4WDs

Though it only works on server 1, not on server 2.

Come on, sing up for the car you want to use with the restrictions presented, don't fish for messing up with balancing while the season starts. Get another car, you still can if you don't like FX2 and made a bad choice you think.

I don't think we need schedules or precise dates, but at least some info and roadmap of what is on the horizon. So far it seems dead for a few years and that's just how it is. We see security patches here and there and removing some old bugs but that's about it. No real changes that would have bigger impact or bring new content. Not even opening the game for users to add content themselves.

And the game still freezes when a player joins mid race, it's been introduced with one of the patches and never removed again. Guess I will just turn off skins and see if that really helps.

Thanks for an updated dedicated server, I'm sure those who host servers will appreciate it.

It would be nice to remove some client side bugs though as well.
I don't think anybody expects new content anymore, so what ever is released, is released. Who wants tracks and cars probably plays other games now.
