The lack of transmission modeling is the single most annoying thing for me as well. So it's great news that they are apparently working on it! Better late than never. Until it is implemented I'm not sure I'll re-subscribe.. for the Corvette (which has a manual H-gate in real life) proper transmission is going to be essential!

I'm pretty sure iRacing has thought pretty carefully about the whole "new content vs fix what's already there" thing. iRacing wants to make money, and they seem to have concluded that new content is more important than clutch modelling etc for increasing (and maintaining) its subscriber base. If they'd thought different they would have changed their strategy.

Personally I've got both feet firmly planted in the "fix what's already there" camp, but I realise we're in the minority. Those of us who want brake heating, clutch modelling and engine damage are typically more serious about simracing than the average iRacer. And being more serious about our hobby means we speak with loud voices on forums and such. But we're still in a minority, and that's why iRacing has chosen to ignore our calls so far. From a business point of view it makes perfect sense.

The main problem that must be addressed is communication. There's a whole bunch of people who've tried getting in contact with Renato (the guy behind Rinoseats) for a looong time without getting a reply. He really has to make an effort to rebuild a reputation before he can expect to sell much.

That said, any new addition to the simcockpit market is most welcome.

Quote from UncleBenny :iRacing doesn't seem to want to fix any of those issues though, all we need is MORE CONTENT

The number of subscribers is increasing steadily, though. So from a business point of view, it seems their strategy is working pretty well. But yeah, I think they'd do themselves a disfavour if they ignore the most blatant problems for much longer.

Statistics show that 74,7% of all threads in the General LFS Discussion forum derail completely and turn into whining about the LFS development rate.

Quote from Gabkicks :make sure u full press the braked down in the pits before you pull out every time you go on the track. I have heard some people mod their pedals using dxtweak2 or other programs so that even when they pres their pedals down fully, the game only sees it at 90%, but i think that is cheating.

DXtweak2 doesn't work with iRacing, but you can short calibrate in the ingame controller calibration if you want. You can also set a deadzone there. Takes some fiddling, but definitely works.

Also notice how there is a non-linear correspondence between how far you push the pedal and how much the red bar in game moves! It's almost exponential. This is intentional, but takes some getting used to when you come from another sim.

Dammit, I voted wrong. I thought the links in the first post were in the same sequence as the poll options.

I heard the next batch of Turbo S wheels got delayed until September. Will this affect the June shipment of the GT3RS too? I hope not..

There's a huge thread about this wheel+pedals on the iRacing forums.. dozens of guys who are anxiously awaiting theirs. But since my subscription expired yesterday I can no longer keep an eye on that thread.

So: if anyone here subscribes to iRacing, maybe they could have a look in the Hardware section of the iRacing boards and paste some of the initial reviews here for us to read? That would be much appreciated!

Yup. The further towards the tip of the stick you attach the rubber band, the stronger it will pull down.

Just experiment with it.. I'm sure you can make it work

1) Get a joystick
2) Mount the base onto something vertical so the stick is pointing horizontally
3) Strap a rubber band around the tip of the joystick and attach the rubber band to the floor somehow
4) Voilà! You've just built a super cheap handbrake.

You can then make a groove of some sort to prevent the stick from moving sideways if you want. Or you can replace the shaft with a real handbrake shaft.. or whatever.

Just get the cheapest joystick you can find, and use a rubber band or a spring or something to provide the return force. Shouldn't be too hard to attach a real handbrake shaft either.

Good luck!

Quote from LRB_Aly :Hi guys,
I broke my G25 some days ago and I'm trying to get my hand on a G25 replacement 'til I can afford a new wheel.
As a new wheel I thought a 911 GT3 RS with clubsport pedals would be nice. Unfortunately on the threads about this wheel I couldn't manage to see a clear answer if Yes or No it is an option. Now I want to see if a poll could bring some clarity about the matter.

The first reviews should be out sometime this week. The wheels + pedals are in the mail on their way to the customers in USA. (and possibly in Europe too..?)

Quote from PMD9409 :After Marcos Ambrose's involvement in the sim the last few months, most people are leaning towards the V8 Supercar as well as maybe a couple of Australian tracks.

Who knows, I'll end up pleased (tin-tops FTW!).

I doubt it.. a guy at the iRacing forums sent an e-mail to V8SCA pleading them to do a deal with iRacing. Here's the reply he got:

Quote :"...Many thanks for your feedback re iRacing.

We are currently in the process of exploring the concept with iRacing,
and obviously would need to reach agreement on commercial terms before
we proceeded with a deal with them.

So there is still some work to be done but please rest assured that we
are speaking with them to explore the possibility of V8 Supercars being
included.

Thanks again for your feedback, it is really valuable to assist us with
making sure we are looking at being involved with products which are in
line with what the V8 fans are interested in..."

This was yesterday, so that's probably not what the Cat Herder was talking about.

Shipping confirmation..? I thought the April shipment was already in customs somewhere in Europe?

Quote from jaxx751 :just got done with my experiment. it seems what we thought is true and is modeled correctly. the graph is attached. please keep in mind that there might be a max difference of .2 to .5 seconds on each time.

Time on Y axis, temperature on X. It was from that temperature down to the next lower temperature. Hope that makes sense.

The shape of the graph is logically correct. It should be an exponential, which it seems to be. As for the values and drop rate I can't comment on the accuracy and realism.

Now, now, we don't promote the beating of children in this forum!

Be sure to set the FFB strength in Profiler to > 100%. I use 107%. It amplifies the near-center response and the deadzone becomes less of an issue.

The ship arrived in the US today (at least according to the latest news). So we should get some reviews within a couple of days I guess. The European shipment is due to arrive in a week or so

Quote from StableX :ROFL!!!! I tell you, the INDYCAR sounds awesome! I love the oval racing for some reason on iRacing. The system works very smoothly. My driving is the opposite though and I am rarely smooth turning left all the time

You could learn a lot from this video..

Quote from Degats :Tyre physics are notoriously difficult to model - as proven by the many improvements in LFS's model, yet it's still widely considered to need further improvement. iRacing is just another simulator - do we know if they had better tyre data than what Scawen has been given + researched?

There are a lot of variables and unknowns at play here as well as a lack of real world comparison with similar tyre compounds and treads with accurate temperature and grip data.

Do LFS's tyre physics need improving? Almost certainly
Do we really know how accurate they actually are? Not really

Agreed. Personally I have no clue how much you'd have to abuse real-life tires in order to make them as hot as in the video. Maybe it's not even possible for all I know.. could be they just turn to mash long before.

But why does it really matter all that much? Really, if you've got your tyres glowing red hot like in your demonstration, you should work on your driving style.

My main gripe with the tyre model in LFS remains the lenient slip angles and smooth transitions from grip <--> slide. This is something that affects us in all races. But that's another discussion.
