Whatever you say, sir. I trust your knowledge is greater than mine when it comes to aerodynamics.

I still have no doubt that a Street Triple R could reach 172mph indicated by the speedometer.

Mind you the road he said he did it on is a very long wide motorway with some downhill stretches! He also may have had the wind behind him

There's an onboard video on youtube of a guy reaching 150mph on the Bandit 650 so I can't imagine the Street Triple R struggling to do more... Maybe I am just naive -

Quote from sil3ntwar :You will believe anything won't you?

How have you come to that conclusion?

My 650cc at around 85bhp can get to 155mph with enough road. I don't see why a 675cc 110bhp bike with FAR less weight couldn't do the speed that he said.

What Forbin says is true, what the speedo says will not be your true speed but no one is going to read what their speedo is saying and then make an approximate guess taking accurate measurements of wind resistance and the fact that all speedos show you going slightly faster than you are.

So for you knit-pickers, he had it up to 172mph according to his speedometer but possibly not exact to his true real-time speed.

Quote from Racer Y :Bandits are good all around motorcycles.
Triumphs.....?
Is a Street Triple the same as a Speed triple? I've always liked Triumphs - from a distance. They had a naked sport bike that looked cool (is that the triple?), but I really don't know much about them. A guy I did some graphics work for has an old school bonneville bobber chopper. It really looks good. This dude collects motorcycles and has all kinds of bikes. Single guys get all the neat toys, don't they?

The Street Triple is the 675cc and the Speed Triple is 1050cc. They are almost identical looking and have amazing sounding 3 cylinder engines! They're classified as streetfighters from stock. They have quite a sporty look and riding position but with high handlebars rather than clip-ons.

A guy at the bike shop I go to and use had a Street Triple, the 675cc version, and he had his up to 172mph!

I don't know mate, there are so many different numbers and opinions.

I'd put my money on a Bandit over a 1/4 mile, especially if it's the 650 Bandit like I have. The SV650 has all it's grunt at lower revs, but when the Bandit was upgraded to 650 it improved the low and mid range so the SV lost a fair amount of it's advantage. The Bandit undoubtedly has a higher top speed whether it's the 600 or 650. Mine can do over 150mph when there's enough clear road ahead.

I guess it depends what you like in a bike.

What I needed/wanted in a bike was:
-Comfort.
-A great sounding, high revving inline 4. (Uses the GSX engine)
-A bike that was easy on the motorway but still fun to thrash around at the weekend.
-Something that could still hang with the 600 sports bikes.
-Decent fuel economy
-Adequate power
-Easy riding with a pillion (My girlfriend is on the back every weekend)

The new bandit ticked all the boxes and even had ABS and heated grips thrown in for those painfully cold winter mornings! Not to mention a lovely sounding Yoshimura exhaust set up.

I used to ride a sports bike and the only reason I'd get an SV would be for the aggressive sporty style that turns heads, but that isn't comfortable over long distances.
-It's a V twin, I wanted an inline 4. (The V twin does sound great with a good aftermarket can on it though!)
-It doesn't have as much top end so does not overtake as swiftly while already travelling at high speed. I spend a fair amount of time on the motorway.
-It's not as stable carrying a pillion passenger.
-Worse fuel economy
-Not as much poweeeeerrrrrrr!

The argument between the SV and The Bandit has been done to death by fans of each respective bike on bike forums. I like both and would gladly have both, but The Bandit suits me more for what I need and want from a bike at the moment.

If I could afford it I'd have had a Honda Hornet or a Triumph Street Triple instead!

Quote from Racer Y :Yeah I know that in California doing that is legal. It's still risky as hell. Especially seeing how road rage is our newest extreme sport. I don't think changing lanes in an intersection is legal though. I got a ticket for that here.

Well you think wrong for the UK.

The only law remotely similar is not being able to overtake a lead vehicle when going through zig zag white lines. Something, I would like to add, I did not do!

@Forbin

The old 600 Bandit does a quarter mile time over a second quicker than an SV and the 650 Bandit is quicker than the old 600. The Fazer 600 is quicker than both the Bandit and the SV!

@Chrisuu01

My Bandit has about 87hp so a bit more than your old bike The Fazer6 has 95hp.

Quote from Chrisuu01 :Looking at that the seating position on thesv650s is indeed far to extreme for me.

What I do see however is that on allot of bikes I would barely be able to get my toes to touch the ground when standing still.
Not that I use 2 legs allot when standing still, but still could get quite scary when moments of instability occur.

The Bandit is far superior if you're commuting. It has way more top end to give. The SV is decent to 60 because of the torque from the V twin but the power fizzles out much quicker than the Bandit. The Bandit is also much more comfortable and is more economical, and due to it's extra weight is much more stable.

If you could afford it I'd say go for the Bandit 650 like mine, it has more torque lower down than the old 600 and it comes with ABS.

Quote from e2mustang :u use that in london? how many times u have been knocked over by cars?

Zero, why would I be knocked over because that is what I use? Lots of people ride these in London and similar type of bikes (sports tourers/streetfighters) like the Fazer 600.

Quote from Racer Y :I saw your video... How many traffic laws do you think you broke?

You tell me. You seem to know everything. Your laws are different to ours and also the fuzz seem very lenient over here when it comes to motorcyclists, especially in London. We are allowed to filter through traffic and I take full advantage of that. How many traffic laws do you think you've broken? Whilst racing other motorcyclists like you admitted earlier for example?

Fantastic bikes! Would love one for a bit of fun at the weekends. At the moment I just continue using my Bandit 650 which I use for my commute into London for work. I still have a lot of fun on it though and is pretty quick for a heavy-ish bike! Gets to 60 in about 3.5 and has the GSX engine so can comfortably hang with the 600 sports bikes.

Also got a gopro for Christmas from my girlfriend which has been cool, got a few videos up on youtube.

Here's one of my rides out of London from where I work for those interested, the guy I'm riding with is on a Honda CBR 600.

Quote from Chrisuu01 :Same here to.

On my commute today the wind was blowing me from one side of the road to the other at one point.
But then again I was riding along a road on top of a dam, in the middle of a lake.

I feel your pain, I ride over a very high bridge that goes over an estuary. Very dangerous at altitude when it's windy. Scary enough in a car, on a bike it'd ridiculous.

Quote from Boris Lozac :Fair enough, that might seem good with some getting used to, but it's wierd when you do see the part where the wheel was and it's just empty there..
I feel so disconnected from the car if i don't see the virtual wheel and hands..

Like I said everyone's entitled to their preference. I try to adjust the FOV and camera position so it's not too obvious that there was a virtual wheel there but can still see the HUD and place it so it's in a similar position behind my own wheel in front of my screen. This was really easy to do in LFS which I loved.

In AC I don't know if there is a way to remove the virtual wheel, so I just have it locked and try to position the in car camera so that I can't see it so well. It hasn't been a distraction so far although I could use it as an excuse for slow lap times..

It's quite mild where I am for this time of year, but fuarrrk the wind is mental and the rain is doing my head in. I commute into London by motorbike from about 40 miles outside of it and it's pretty dangerous at the mo!

Quote from Boris Lozac :But you do see the dashboard still, meaning your FOV is the same as the wheel and hands are there, but now it's just empty there? How is that immersive or real
The way i do my simming, is i get 'into' that car, the only way i can immerse myself, i don't pretend that all of a sudden my monitor is a windshield and that nonsense, i literally become that virtual driver, and drive from his eyes..

But how is it any less nonsense to "pretend that all of a sudden" you are not you, but someone else in a virtual world?

I guess it's just a personal preference and no one is wrong, unless you are an eejit that uses chase view

However for me, seeing my own wheel and hands moving and then seeing a further pair of hands and a wheel moving on screen is distracting and detracts from the immersion for me, big time. I always, if possible, remove wheel and hands, move camera view slightly higher and closer to the dash and fix that camera so it doesn't roll around the car with G-forces. I like it locked so my own eyes have to adjust to the bounciness and not have some weird effect that would probably only feel realistic on a boat sim.

So I re-installed Windows 7 and now it works fine straight away with no issues. Really having a blast so far. The F40 truly is a bitch, so many times I've ended up coming out of a corner like a snail because I'm way off the turbo kicking in. Great fun to try to master though!

I got an email through about a reply from AC support asking me to attach my crash logs and PC specs.

My crash log folder was entirely empty which I had explained already and there's no point saying anything more unless it doesn't work on Windows 7 64 as well.

Quote from Specht77 :I really can't believe that something is able to run on vista, but is not able to run on 7

I think it was due to the fact that my copy of 7 was 64bit and my copy of Vista was 32. I needed 32bit to get the old game I wanted to play to work. Wasn't really worth it, but then I couldn't foresee that AC was have such an issue with my Vista! Suppose I would be better off on 64bit 7 so I am going to re-install it and give AC another go in the next couple of days when I get the chance.

I hope it works and I hope it will give me the sim-racing bug again. It is nice to be back contributing to my favourite forum, although all I've been contributing so far are issues and complaining

It is a pain in the ass, I only downgraded for a few games that wouldn't work on 7. Didn't seem like it was worth it now! Will have to get 7 back on I guess to play this now

Merry Christmas all!

After filling up on Turkey and those delightful sausages wrapped in bacon, I am off to get drunk and high with my girlfriend until we go cross eyed

But first I must try and get a couple of laps in on AC!

Quote from Töki (HUN) :Weird. Can you see the dxgi.dll file in your Windows/system32 folder? If not I can send mine to you, might worth a try.

Indeed I can mate which is making me all the more puzzled by this. I've tried re-installing it from scratch and still saying the same thing. Really frustrated!

Seems like I've found a guy on the AC forums with the same issue, I am going to try the link for the update to fix it and see if I can finally get on track!

Hi mate! I have a directx 11 card but running on Vista at the moment. It says in the minimum specs that it should run on Vista. (I know I'm going to be laughed at for still using shitty vista) I downgraded to Vista from 7 because at the time there was some old games I could play on Vista but not 7.
