V8 Racing League 2023 - information

Last season V8 Racing League introduced the "turbo era" and brought a new car for the drivers - the FoRGE VERL 2022 was a step upwards regarding power and challenging handling. However with reduced aerodynamical downforce, the car was pretty much on similar pace with the good old Formula V8,which was used in first 7 seasons. This year the car has been developed further - it received an updated suspension geometry, slightly increased aerodynamical downforce and got some minor fixes to ensure quality, but also lost a bit of it's power, which was cut by reducing boost of the turbocharger. This is the organizing body's attempt to make the car more user friendly, while it is still challenging to master.

League race format is quite simple and hasn't been changed - every round features 20 minutes free track qualifying and race, where lapcount is set to minimum to exceed 200 kilometers. As always no "hardcore simulation" will be enforced to keep things simple - everyone can telepit in qualifying (also in race, but that of course erases the driver's race progress),also Safety/Pace car will not be used. However the race day has been changed - VERL will return it's action to sunday evening (european time) to increase it's availability for the racers from west side of Atlantic. Season starts on 10th september with rounds set 2 weeks apart from each other, except round 3 is 3 weeks after round 2.

Schedule of this season features 2 fast tracks at both ends of the series, while 3 middle rounds will be run on slower courses. Season kicks off in Aston, where VERL will be using the longest configuration Grand Prix for the 1st time in league's history. Round 2 will be also "a first ever" - the brand new round "FoRGE 200" will be run on a custom layout set up in Layout Square, the 3.2km street circuits inspired track has 2 long straights and handfull of slow challenging turns. A real street course will be used in round 3 - the South City 200 will be run in Chicane Route configuration, which has been used 3 times in VERL history, however this year it will be run in default direction for the first time. The 2 last rounds will be run on returning courses - 4th round will be run on what has been become VERL classic. The bumpy and dusty Container Sprint configuration is set up in Blackwood's container storage field and as always will challenge drivers' mental and physical endurance. Season finale will be held in pretty much the most classic high power car circuit of LFS - the Westhill International configuration has always been a great place for high speed cars showdown racing.

Series schedule:
10.09. Round 1 - Aston Classic Challenge (AS Grand Prix, 23 laps)
24.09. Round 2 - FoRGE 200 (LA FoRGE Viaduct 8*, 63 laps)
15.10. Round 3 - South City 200 (SO Chicane Route, 69 laps)
29.10. Round 4 - Containa Grand Prix of Blackwood (BL Container Sprint*, 80 laps)
12.11. Round 5 - Westhill 200 (WE International, 35 laps)
* Custom configuration layout attached

Timetable:
17:00 UTC / 19:00 CET / 20:00 EET
- 20 minutes of qualifying
17:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET - race start
* due daylight saving time change in Europe, the UTC time of round 5 will be accordingly 18:00 (Qual) and 18:30 (Start)!
* times of posted CET and EET timezones are the current times at the date - summer time in rounds 1-4,winter time in round 5.
* IMPORTANT NOTE: if you are not familiar with either CET or EET timezones, always refer to UTC to convert the correct event time to your timezone! Calendar of lfs.net website's leagues section always shows right time for your timezone!

Special notes on qualifying:
- If there is no full 40 car grid, drivers championship's top 10 drivers will be allowed to start from end of the grid if joined late and missed qualification. For 1st round last year's top 10 driver's can use this option.
- To qualify for the race drivers have to set a laptime during qualifying session within 112% of best laptime of the qualifying session. This does not affect championship's top 10 drivers as they may start the race without qualifying or with laptime outside 112% of best laptime.

Championships:
VERL Drivers Champion - awarded to a driver with the most points scored through all 5 rounds, including attendance bonus points
VERL Teams Champion - awarded to a team with the most points scored through all 5 rounds (team will score all points from it's 2 highest finished drivers and all round bonus points)
VERL Nations Cup Winner - awarded to a nation with the most points scored through all 5 rounds (nation will score all points from it's 2 highest finished drivers and all round bonus points)
VERL Rookie of the Year - awarded to a driver, who hasn't started a single VERL race before this season, with the most points scored through all 5 rounds, including attendance bonus points. Rookie status will be marked in championship standings sheet in series spreadsheets (link in "Miscellaneous info" section of this post)

In all championships - in case of a tie, higher rated will be driver/team/nation with highest finishing position,if equal - it's amount,if equal - second highest position etc. If all finishing positions happen to be equal, higher rated will be selected using same system from qualifying results. If they also happen to be equal then as a tie-breaker will be used last round finishing position. In case a tied driver had a disqualification in one or more rounds,it counts as a primary rating lowering factor, when deciding tiebreak.

Points System:
Finishing points:
1st - 20 points
2nd - 17 points
3rd - 14 points
4th - 12 points
5th - 10 points

3rd - 6 points
4th - 5 points
5th - 4 points
6th - 3 point

Rules:
We will not make a mile long rule book that noone will read completely anyway,so we will rely on common sence of competitors to behave and follow the basic Rules of Clean Racing. There will not be an admin in server who will specifically observe drivers' behaviour during the race,so any action will be made only after protest while all retirements will be investigated automatically. If any incidents reported/protested,we will take individual approach to each of them to decide best fair resolution or punishment if needed.

Basic guidelines as a reminder:
> Blue flag - you may not deny/block a passing manouvre of laping car and try a repass right after it. In qualification it means - stay off racing line and don't disturb drivers on hotlap.
> Shortcuts - 2 wheels on track at all times. Track is mostly marked by white lines, while also curbs count towards track. Overtaking outside track limits counts as illegal and will be penalized in case of a protest.
> Contacts - have to be avoided at all costs as always when racing open wheel cars, that includes also bumpdrafting.
> Pit exit - allthough there will be no mandatory pitstop in this league, due smaller fuel tank pitting will be needed,so pit exit lines will have to be respected - drivers may not cross the pit exit line with more than 2 wheels and have to make way for cars racing at full speed. Failing to comply with this rule will award them with 10s penalty, while causing incidents will result in bigger penalty. Pit entry lines will not be monitored, they serve just as guidelines.
> Pitlane speed - 2 rounds are run on tracks where is no LFS-side enforced pitlane speed limit. Here the speed will not be monitored, however if an incident happens due high speeds, driver will be penalized for avoidable incident.
> Chatting - it's not completely outruled, but still drivers are expected to concentrate on racing. In case of too much chatting while ignoring messages asking to cease chatting,a penalty may be given. In case of any abusive/offensive language a penalty will be given! Any in server present observers/spectators are not allowed to chat at all during race session!
> Lags - if there are any connection issues, driver will be asked to improve (close internet using programs). If driver will be considered as dangerous due to unstable connection and high ping,he will not be allowed to participate at the current round.
> Hacks/cheats - if used, you will not race with us. Ever. As simple as that.

Possible penalties:
> WARNING - any minor infraction that needs to be noted without penalty. Warned driver might receive bigger penalty for other infractions.
> 10s added to finish time - minor infractions, like illegal passing, pit exit line violation, too much chatting.
> 30s added to finish time - medium infractions, like causing avoidable incident[s] without serious consequences, illegal passing.
> 60s added to finish time (1 lap penalty in rounds 2 and 3) - medium infractions, like causing avoidable incident[s] with consequences to other drivers (like damage, multiple position loss) or unsportsmanlike behaviour.
> Disqualification for 1 or more rounds - heavy infractions, multiple incidents, unsportsmanlike behaviour. After serving disqualification, driver will automatically carry a "warning" for the rest of season.
> Series exclusion (including ban for any other events run under Race Green Events control) - serious infractions like intentional/revenge wrecking, event sabotage and any other malicious act.

The august round as pretty much expected draw a realtivelly small attendance - just 12 drivers attended, representing just 8 of 25 available cars, causing others to tumble down the order, this will add another reason to redesign manufacturers championship format for next year. Despite the lowest number of cars on track in race, there were still some unexpected happenings and disputes for finishing positions.

4 weeks after his 1st RandomCar podium finish,Thehemuli added a race win to his achievements - already in lap one he used the polesitters mistake to challenge for lead and since the polesitter made even bigger mistake in next turn,he was in large lead right away, led all 28 race laps to finish first with 8 seconds lead. The finn scored the 1st race win for the Imprezzive B2 and 3rd win in row for all-wheel-driven cars. Despite the early mistake and finding himself on the tale end of the field right after it,Unite still proved he is the fastest on track with his Piran Firefly as he set the fastest laptimes in both sessions, but had to settle for 2nd place finish - still his best result in this league, improving from 10th place finish in round 6. Motimoukari brought his Ultimate Road Car home in 3rd position, which is his 1st top10 finish in this league.

The standings top 7 drivers did not attend this round, which lead the 8th place driver to climb up to 6th position, while top5 remains unchanged after this round - V.Lagooga still remains in lead by 7 points over Nosle and 10 over RD2.

In teams standings there are changes on top however - S1dus remains in lead, but the closest rival is now RGA,which is 10 points behind,B2R with no attendance dropped down to 3rd with 30 points deficite. With 2nd round of no attendance,Lithuania's lead has now shrunk from dominating amount to just 3 points as Finland kept scoring points, including their highest single round score in this round. Remaining 3 top5 nations are unchanged in both points count and positions. URC1 was not represented in previous 2 rounds,so the lead has been cut a lot,but in latest round the 3rd place finish kept them in 19 points lead over 2nd place which is now taken by Imprezzive,Talot dropped to 3rd place just 2 points behind 2nd.

FXO was the belowed car of the randomizer in this round - a total of 6 drivers received it for this round, however only 2 took part. Still no new driver received same car for 3rd time, however few 2-timers have been added, most notably M@CI3K received a 3rd car for the 2nd time.

The penultimate round will bring us to Kyoto, but no standard configuration was selected by the winner - it's the 4.18 kilometer RGE made version of non-standard configuration known under name "North",which features 2 of 180° hairpins on each end of the oval turn 2 straight. Also on the weekend a voting will be started for addition of a new car in the cars lineup - the voting frequency has been reduced to once per 2 rounds basis after reaching 25 cars count.

Race statistics / RTFR .mpr folder / Event rating and other statistics (will be updated later this week)

For some this might have been return to past, where they were running single make races with very similar cars, not because it was so much fun,but because you simply wanted to reach 100% completion. However this was not just a "real driving simulator" on a console, this was a proper racing sim with actual human rivals and the field was much bigger - a total of 26 cars were standing on grid and ready to race. The K-car type car delivered just 64 horsepower,so it was surely no high speed race, but still the average race speed exceeded 100 km/h,despite just 4 drivers being able to exceed 150 km/h top speed mark during the race. This race reached a milestone yesterday in RTFR history - the total distance of all RTFR races exceeded 25 thousand kilometers.

Despite this race being just half as fast as previous race,it was won by the same driver, even if he's rather known for racing faster cars - Gábor scored the 2nd race win in row and started his 4th winning streak, only his teammate and latelly in RTFR inactive Botsi has more winning streaks. Additionally Gábor added to his stats the 24th racewin,17th pole position (tied 3rd most now),19th fastest lap of the race and 49th top5 finish, but in country level he scored 30th racewin for Hungary - it's the 3rd country reaching this mark. After some more or less physical disputes on track R.Kardol secured the 2nd place finish, which is his 79th top5 finish, his rival Fatal did not report anything,so the after race discussions reached some settlement between drivers - 3rd in the results for the finn, which is his 21st top5 finish. From 17 previous RTFR starts PedroBR was able to reach 9th as his best finishing result, seems he found his specialisation car as he finished 4th yesterday, while his 6th place in qualifying halved the number of his best previous best qualifying. His more experienced teammate Michal closed the top5 - the 101st RTFR start brought him 12th top5 finish.

VOD at Youtube:

Next week at the same server there will be a much more colorful field - it is time for the 8th round of our brand new RandomCar series, league where drivers get drawn their cars out of pool of 25 cars from PL200 class (balanced around LFS's TBO class). For those not signed up or being marked inactive - make sure you signup or reactivate before monday's draw to have whole 24h time of practice. In 2 weeks RTFR server will be returned to RTFR duties - the combo was announced during the broadcast,so check it for some information, full info as always in the weekend before the race. And in 3 weeks time RTFR XL will bring a quite classic LFS combo - FO8 at Aston North Reversed.

Quote from rane_nbg :How do we agree on which setup to choose as a "fixed one"?

I see 2 options on this one:
1 - server side enforcement (server owner/admin sets required limitations in server options/config)
2 - mod side limitation (mod creator selects what settings are changable and what are fixed)

* PENALTIES :
B2マ Upsas - receives 10 seconds penalty added to his finish time for pit exit line violation.
B2マ 136mph - receives 10 seconds penalty added to his finish time for pit exit line violation.
SGマ MadJester - receives 24.38 seconds penalty added to his finish time for minimum pit time violation.

[WCL] P.Koivunen - receives 60 seconds penalty added to his finish time for failure to serve the mandatory pitstop.

- - - - - - - - - -

LFS provided place and concrete objects - rest of this race was carried out with community's imagination. It was the first ever visit to the normally empty Layout Square for any of the RTFR series, where a 3.67km track was set up to be run with a GT4 class car. Compared to us well known LFS GTR class cars, this has more weight, narrower tyres, less aero effect and a bit less power, optionally tamable with traction control and ABS - that all created pretty much close racing, which resulted in a lot of paint trading,as some were very unpatient and some had to defend their positions by any means necessary. But there were no protests made,so the organization will let this pass but hopes for more respectful and clean racing in future.

Just like a week ago in normal RTFR,this race went under the sign of Gábor, who was the wastest through whole race evening. The hungarian was the only one to break 1:32 laptime mark in qualifying to take home his 7th pole position, tying for 3rd most all time in series and also scoring the 10th pole position for Hungary. Even if he did not led most laps through the race,he still did not leave any chances for competition, bringing home the 10th RTFR XL racewin for Hungary,7th for himself, setting also the fastest lap of the race - his 7th,putting him in sole 3rd in this chart. Additionally he scored his 15th top5 finish. Despite the penalty,Upsas finished in undoubted 2nd place, leading 29 of 50 laps during the pitstop shuffling phase,6th top5 finish for the previous 2-time racewinner. Unlike week ago,Zesty was able to improve his best finishing position - in both RTFR series his best result was 4th,week ago he just repeated it in normal RTFR,yesterday he improved it in XL version, scoring his 2nd top5 finish. 4th place finish was taken by Doni, who scored his 6th top5 finish, but top5 was closed by R.Kardol, who redeemed his false start (autospectated by LFS) and pitlane restart with his 41st top5 finish.

* FUN FACT OF THE MONTH :
With 30 drivers attendance, the N.400S GT4 puts itself into 3rd place in the most attended cars chart. The fun part about this fact - it makes the top of the table consist of already 4 different GTR class cars before cars of any other classes.

* CLOCK PITTER OF THE RACE :
This is probably the weirdest clock pitter in the history - just one driver finished the race without any pitwork, however M@CI3K needed 2 stops at pitbox to not score a penalty as his 1st stop was 0.1s too short. The custom pitlane gave him the advantage to make a 2nd pitstop in same pitlane visit - it's up to debate if such behaviour should be forbidden in future.

* FIELD RUSHER OF THE RACE :
Doni had a rather weak qualifying by setting best laptime of the 2nd half of the field, however he was much better in race, improving his position by 12 places finishing 4th.

VOD at Youtube:

The submitted combo for the next race was no surprise knowing the driver who had the right to do so - Formula V8 was selected to be run in Aston North configuration in reversed direction. This will be a repeat of 41st RTFR XL,won by 2nd place finisher of yesterday's race - Upsas, who scored his 1st RTFR XL race win back then. It will be a 47 laps race again. That's about plans in 4 weeks, however next tuesday we will reduce race speeds to run one of the rather slower cars, full info will posted in the weekend as always.

Race requires a minimum time spent in pitstall of 10 seconds. That can be done either with single pitstop or sum of multiple pitstops. Driver who has spent less time will receive penalty time added to his finish time, which will be calculated by tripling the missing time to complete neccesary minimum time and adding additional 5 seconds. Drivers failing to pit at all will receive 1 minute penalty added to finish time (10s*3 + additional 30s).

With the new VERL season nearing the opnening round of RTFR 2023 season 2 was run in a classic VERL combo - the Formula V8 in the Westhill International configuration, allthough the distance was shorter than VERL's 200km. Still the race was attended by 2 last VERL champions, the latest however was with the new VERL car. A total of 24 drivers qualified for the race, however only 20 were standing on grid waiting for green light,17 endured the 33 minutes race to see the chequred flag.

The last VERL Formula V8 champion Gábor was on the heights of duty once again, outqualifying the competition by 0.4 seconds and scoring his 16th pole position in RTFR. He led all 20 laps on the way to victory lane, clinching his 23rd RTFR racewin and on the final lap securing also fastest lap of the race - his 18th. The hungarian has now a total of 48 top5 finishes and lead in 2023 season 2 standings after first of 10 rounds. The defending VERL champion (the one who won series with new car) proved himself being a worthy FO8 driver too being the only driver having the winner on visibility range whole race long, finishing with 5.5 seconds gap. That was Fatal's 20th top5 finish. The late race semi-distant 3-way battle for 3nd place was won by Sean, who scored his highest RTFR finish (improvement by a single positon) and 3rd top5 finish. Despite running most of the race 3rd,Zesty threw the chance for his best RTFR finish away on his own, eventually rescuing 4th place finish to have the complete repeat of his best achievements yesterday - 3rd in qualifying and 4th in race, adding 3rd top5 finish to his list. Ayoub Maroc completed the top5,scoring his 10th top5 finish in his 30th overall finish.

VOD at Youtube:

There was a slight hint about next RTFR combo in the stream - that's all the info you can get now, besides the fact that speeds will go down drastically. But what's coming first is 80th RTFR XL,which will be run on completelly non-standard LFS combo - N.400S GT4 will be run in S1dusring,marking 1st ever RTFR appearance in Layout square, full info will be posted on friday.

7th round was the 1st return of a specific configuration - the longest standard config of South City was selected for the second time, however for the 2nd try if was run in reversed direction. Also the attendance keeps it's usual downwards trend - 22 drivers in qualifying is the lowest number in league's history, however 20 cars on grid was 1 more than last round, while repeating finishers count of last round this turned out to be the round with lowest finishers percentage - 85%.

The fastest driver in qualifying was 1st time participant Gábor, who set more than half a second faster laptime to earn the pole position. He did not use his chance of best starting position as he left the server. So the best position on grid was handed over to teammate of actual polesitter - R.Kardol, who led all 17 laps of the race to mark himself as a race winner also in this series. He was chased hard whole race long by Arska, who finished just 0.22 seconds behind winner. Thehemuli finished 3rd to make 2 AWD cars on the podium.

The standings leader did not arrive this round, but still kept his lead, which was cut to 7 points - both leader's closest rivals finished behind each other and kept their positions in status quo as Nosle still is 2nd and RD2 is 3rd.

The leading 2 teams switched positions again - S1dus returned to lead and is 7 points in front of B2R,RGA is still 3rd and still 16 points behind leaders. Nations leader Lithuania was not represented in this round, while their closest rivals Finland scored 38 points, cutting the lead to 49 in standings. The fight for 3rd best nation is still the same Louxembourg/Bulgaria duel, currently led by Nosle's represented nation. The 4-time race winners URC1 were not even drawn for this round and it lost another chunk of points, however both closest rivals did not score a point,so they were replaced by others - Talot is now 2nd best car 19 points off lead, followed by most drawn car Imprezzive another 3 points behind.

The randomized played weird tricks in this round as it drew only 17 cars out of 25 possible for 48 drivers. Another 3 cars were simply not used, resulting in a field of 14 different cars for this round. Imprezzive meanwhil has been drawn 27 times, topping the chart of most draws, however no new driver got the same car for 3rd time, but Nosle joined his teammate in 2 cars drawn twice club.

The 8th round in 4 weeks will be held in the shortest track in the series - Fern Bay's custom configuration Cadet has been selected, which is a 2.27km extended version of Club configuration, the race will be 28 laps long.
