Quote from griever :Is anyone excited about Forza 2?

This is shaping up for a 'no' by the looks of it.

Quote from Scawen :Are you sure they managed to finish the race without being disqualified? Although they pit, it's not supposed to qualify as a valid pit stop for the must pit rule. They should still be disqualified at the end of the race unless they pit again. I've just tested it again now and the first thing is : I could not join back into the pitlane until 12 seconds after the race started. Then when leaving my pit box I did a pit stop, and it did not remove my "Pit stop required : yes" in the F12 menu - it did not change to OK. Then I received a time penalty on my final lap. So... I could not reproduce gaining any advantage.

Yes they finished without penalty. I and another tried to do this and it has to said it takes a fair bit of adroitness on the keyboard. Leaving the garage you have to spectate, join, leave garage, drive into pitspace. You've then completed a pitstop. I was pretty fumble fingered and still managed an advantage, albeit not a huge one. I think it's too obvious what's happening for it to catch on. :-)

An exploit came to our notice last night, one that we've not seen before. Although I've noticed that you can 'pit' when leaving the garage when joining midrace.

W17, 'Mustpit' enabled
What they do is pretend to accidently false start, telepit, which nullifys their penalty, leave the garage, drive into a pit space do their pitstop (no damage of course) and carry on. This all takes just a few seconds and the rest of the field have only gone a little way and of course they still have to pit. Keep an eye out for people that false start and telepit immediately.

Hope that makes sense.

Ability to set a time (5-6 seconds) for the display of the welcome message. Sometimes you can connect so damned quick it can't be read! It might, just might, prevent people from continually asking 'Is a pit stop required?' etc.

Quote from SamH :.

The network debug is useful to admins. The reason I proposed this option is because it's often very time-consuming, hopping between different players and watching their latency numbers to figure out who it is who's likely running P2P software in the background. This would help us find the warping driver much quicker.

I'd definitely propose it as an admin ctrl+shift option. I'm worried that, if it were visible to everyone all the time, it would be too easy to instantiate a witch-hunt. Admins (well, me) do spend quite a bit of time tracking down problem connections and persuading them to pull over and kill their MSN, or email client, or kick their brother off YouTube or whatever it takes to get back a decent connection.

My thoughts exactly.

The results show that the vast majority of drivers wouldn't notice if there was a server option to force incar view.

Incar myself 55-56 degrees, TIR,

A point about taking up screen acreage. When you're driving you're surely concentrating on a point in the middle distance, no? So there's no need to see more.

It really depresses me to read such blind tosh!
In principle nkp is a great sim. In fact I bought it after 2 laps of the demo. But the dev(s) are public relations idiots.
I've just deleted a 20minute rant because it's all so pointless.
Daft thing is, I keep checking that forum in the faint hope that something HAS happened.
Oh and a 17km hillclimb-online. How good is that going to be. Go on server, wait 20 minutes for your turn, crash on turn 4, go home.
I'm off to slash my wrists.
Ping in connection list

Given the frequency of multi disconnects caused, apparently, by one person lagging badly, how difficult would it be to have players pings in the connection list. You could then see at a glance who the likely culprit is and take whatever action is deemed necessary. While we're at it, how about a server option of not allowing pings over xxx?

Quote from a n d 1 :People! Why dont u get it that this is a testpatch forum and u should only post something if u found a bug or have a crash? This thread is just getting way to big.

Indeed. Needs a cull.
Quote from a n d 1 :
my first cent and now the second...
I have a very strange bug and couldnt find a post about this (maybe because the thread is full of ****)!

So when i start a Qualification i start in the Pits, that is actually fine but I have a message (False Start - sent to Spec).

best regards

Seconded. Restarting a qualifying session is the same. i.e. you can be on track and instead of 'respawning' on track you're sent to spectate and get the message. You then have to select 'join'

Viewsonic VG2230wm. Absolutely delighted with it. Nice crisp colours etc. I can't fault it. Price was good too. £270 incl vat. from scan.com

EDIT: Just noticed you're from Canada so that link isn't ideal.

Quote from flinty72 :Scawen, I have noticed pop-ups since V5. Not sure if it is related to the changes in the test patches or my PC as I have had pop-ups previously but not this bad.
Seen them at South City, light poles, tress and some signs. Also at Westhill but was just one thing the white lines on the road near pit entry/exit.

It's not just me then. Fences along the back straight and the pitwall on Westhill take up all my attention these days . Haven't checked other tracks. nVidia 8800GXT, 22" lcd 1680x1050

At the end of race type "/w pb" (or use a bind) and see if you have a new pb for yourself

Though I have the feeling you already knew that

I did, I did! Trouble with that is you can miss some important stuff. Don't ask me what!
/w pb is ok if you can remember what the previous pb was. Absolutely NO chance of that!

Leave the damned messages until after the race. No more preoccupation with PBs, more concentration on actually racing. No more crashing 3 seconds after seeing pb message (happens every time ) No more spamming of 'well done's, smileys, 'good job's every time someone gets a pb. (yes I'm as guilty as anyone for that)
Much better to get a nice surprise at the end.

I just did an inventory of the collection of games bought over the years. Oddly enough they all seem to have cost about £30-£35. There is over a grands worth of games taking up shelf space having been played through once, then forgotten. Apart from Half Life, which I've played several times and CS (free), LFS has taken up almost all of my gaming. If the devs packed up and went home right now and never did another stroke of work on it, LFS would be the BEST value for money....EVAH!

Quote from Becky Rose :Flatshifting is totally unrealistic, when LFS sorts out engine damage we'll force the aid off on STCC, until drivers have to manually come off the throttle for fear of damage or diff slip and so on the aid will come off the throttle for them. Just one more step away from arcade games.

This last post has just made the penny drop. When you flat shift using a clutch and shifter, you don't do it very often! The noise is horrendous. Also the very real chance of missing a shift while your foot is on the boards doesn't bear thinking about. I'm never likely to go on your server because of the 'leveling up' stuff, but a good move on your part I'd say.

Anywho' guy's I must confess, I drive on probably a dozen LFS servers most nights of the week and I NEVER see anither driver that makes as many mistakes and indirect wrecking as myself , :sadbananaI is a bad driver and have terrible pb's and wouldnt beabl to connect to that kind o' server...

Correct.

I think there's a bit of a misconception here. It's not 'slow' drivers per se, that is the issue. It's the totally inept 'drivers'
Believe me nathan, we try to communicate with these guys but it's an uphill struggle. It's hard to know what to do for the best for all of our guests, but OldBloke's suggestion is pretty much on the money.

Quote from wheel4hummer :What if I have no PB for that combo? Then will it not let me connect? If you are allowed to connect without a PB, then once you do your first lap, you will be kicked if you are more then 10s behind the wr?

-1000000000000

As an experienced driver you wouldn't have too much of a problem making the cut. Time and time again people join, do a lap and I think 'woohoo! someone I can beat' Within what seems a very short space of time my ass is being whipped! This, mind you, is by someone who copied 'This is your first time in this car/track' message!
