to sum up my knowledge about the AI (which may not be complete):

the AI learns by doing laps. skill levels, Cars and tracks are separated, so you have to train each AI driver with each car/track/skill level combination from the start. the longer they run, the faster they get. they even learn to drive the oval, which the absolutely can't with no training at all

the AI doesn't like to race each other. with single car races at the same training level and with the same setups, the AI doesn't change position after the first completed laps, they just drive behind each other

the AI doesn't pit, so they're likely to run out of fuel if the race distance is longer than the fuel in the tank

you can assign skins to the AI by creating skins in LfS that have the same name as the AI. if your first AI is called AI1, just create a new skin in the LfS garage, calling it AI1 and assign the wanted skinfile to it - if you add the AI1 driver to the field, he will use the AI1 paintjob

you can assign setups to AI drivers by using 'AI uses player setup' in the options. that way, each Ai driver uses the setup you chose at the time of adding him to the field. you can change your setup after he is added and it stays the same for the AI driver

Quote from nesrulz :Please remove retart AI drivers from LFS.
LFS is online racing simulator.

an online racing simulator, where slower newbies get told on the track to practice offline...

yes removing the AI would be great. that way they aren't welcome online and have noone to race offline... maybe they would even go away and play rfactor - would keep the community nice and small...

and kill the game sooner or later but then again we could all leave and start driving rfactor/GTR. hope they treat us rfactor/GTR newbies with more respect, than we treat the new LfS players...

Back on to the car for a minute what about some WTCC sytle cars. 1100Kgs, 300hp 2ltr 4 banger with a 8500rpm rev limit, 6sp gearboxes in either rwd and fwd.

i suggested that in the RSC forums as well

the 3 additional classes i would like to see in S3: WTCC-style touring cars, le mans like sports-prototypes and racetrucks. 3 of each class would be great.

but then again, other people want to see bikes, others nascar-type stock-cars, others go-karts, so the list would probably go on forever

actually the servers i drove on are in S2 aren't any worse than the servers i spent time on in S1 at the beginning of this year.
maybe that's because i don't drive the FO8 or on servers where the FO8 is allowed.
FO8's attract wreckers and FO8 drivers sometimes turn newbies into wreckers, because on an open server, where all cars are allowed and some newbies drive around in the xfg or uf1, most likely one or 2 FO8 guys join and start complaining about or even banning banning the 'slow roadblocks' on the track
sometimes they don't succeed with the voting and these slower players try to get revenge by messing up everyones race..

i've seen this quite a few times and after that i decided not to join FO8 servers anymore

like said numerous times before - a guy who wrecks because he wants to wreck will not stop because of any tests. it'S not that he doesn't know what is right or what is wrong, it's that he wants to do what is wrong for the fun of it

if things would be really that bad, why is the CRC struggeling and calls for help? why aren't all of the complaing guys supporting the CRC?

so newbies that want do drive clean and experienced drivers that either have a sim background other than lfs or that havent raced that combination online yet will have to jump through hoops just to get that good clean race they deserve ?

and what would happen if the track changed or the driver switches to another car that he hasnt raced on that track yet ? autokick ?

like i said - a serverside option - this leaves plenty of room for unfiltered racing and the ammount of additional tasks required to do before the player can join are much less than forced driving tests - for the experienced driver, it's one or two laps around his desired track to make it into the 115 or 120% mark - and if some server-hosts set their mark to 107%, they do not want new/inexperienced drivers (like i would call myself as well) which isn't a problem in my eyes. i don't want to race on pro-only servers where i end up last and get flamed because of being slower, being a newbie and so on

and about the trackchanging - do you remember S1 with the unlocks? and what happened if a server had the racemanager track-changer running with forced cars on certain tracks? this wouldn't be any different... you'd receive a message that you're not able to chose the track/car combination and will be put in spectate..

i think this will be much better than actually forcing people to do the tests - there can't be a perfect solution, as long as people want to drive cars faster than they can control. i'd rather stick to the ones i can handle than going for the FO8 straight away - that'S why i almost never drove it...

it seems like a lot of self-titled pro-drivers want to get rid of us newcomers and inexperienced drivers. that'S sad, but i'd rather not be able to join certain 'elite' servers, than being forced to take boring tests

Quote from Shotglass :so how would that work if you want to race a certain car/track combination for the first time so there is no pb for that combination in your lfsworld profile ?

look at the number of servers with absolutely no filters at all - around 50% of the servers right now accept all cars - those are the servers, where all is allowed and the host didn't take time or didn't want to think about any filters. and he probably won't do that in the future

and there's still the option to host a game for one or two laps to get your first lap online - or in other words, to qualify for a server with required PB

if so, it should be an additional serverside option - most things that look good for one series would make things worse in another series

so the only way to bring things like this into the game would be a serverside option (like the forced pitting or the mid-race-join) where the host decides if he wants damage carried on or not

Quote from Pabs(Sco) :
Single lap quali should only take between 20-30mins, depending on pools size and track. It should be the same format as F1 (1 out lap, 1 fast Lap, 1 in lap, during in lap next driver goes on out lap)

you're right, single lap quali takes about 30 minutes - maybe a little more on longer tracks - but 30 with 6 pools is still 3 additional hours

not sure if that's good (unless we have 3 race servers at the same time)

Quote from axus :I'll say it slowly one last time. The tests should be designed to seperate the wreckers from the genuine newbies, not the pro's from the beginners. Happy?

you can't seperate a wrecker with a test - a wrecker like most of us use the word wrecks because he thinks it'S fun
so if someone wants to drive the wrong way, loves to take out all the cars trying to lap him and looks forward to full speed T1 crashing, there is no test in the world that will prevent him from doing so...

you can only separate good/experienced drivers from newcomers with a driving test - and you're putting off a large percentage of these newbies by that

you'll also turn off a lot of the newcomers from different sims liek GPL/GTR/rFactor/GP4/F1C... because a lot of people with a 3 or 4 year simracing career do not like forced tests to prove their ability to race online. they've proven it a thousand times with other sims

if i want tests, i go and buy GT4 - i bought S1 and then S2 when it came out, because i wanted an online racing sim and no offline driving test...

the possibility to make some host settings like the PB-percentage from the WR needed to join (offer the server host to chose a number between 100 and 120% or set it to 0% for no limit) would be a great way to filter - maybe another possibility would be to offer another host filter - like minimum distance driven in a certain car or on a certain track online

the driving tests from my point of view will make the game worse instead of better, if you force anyone to take them

if you want to teach racing rules, make a little screen after or before the account unlock in LfS where the basic rules (blue flag, yellow flag, some hints for turn 1 ...) will be shown and which stays on screen for forced 45 seconds - this could help much more than any test

i'm strictly against single lap quali - the hotlap quali does a good job keeping the races even and separating the grids..

this isn't a pro-only league, so the organizers have to keep in mind, that there is a large difference between the fastest and the slowest guys

the only single lap quali i could imagine, is a pre-race qualification for the starting order, but after the grids have been finalized

this would be interesting but would take a lot of time with 5 or 6 grids like in the last season

looking good tweak - especially the bottom left one with the stripe under the OLFSL - would look great on the merchandise i guess.. looks pretty professional

i like it - i would only change it a little to make it look a little 3 dimensional. maybe make the OLFSL look metallic and reflecting the sun somewhere - i don't know..

the basic design looks good for me

Quote from Smasha_D :LFS S4 Track Pack Addon ... anyone ?

sounds fine to me - real life tracks or fantasy - i would be interested in both

but like you said - STAGE 4 - after everything else is finished

and if it should be RL tracks, it would probably much more expensive because of license costs - but imagine being able to drive spa, the nordschleife, bathurst, le petit le mans and indianapolis with the S2 (and upcoming S3) cars - would be a great track pack

but then again i would rather spend my money on a handful very nicely built custom tracks, that include a short 'club' variant, an interesting rallyecross-variant and a longer GP variant. would be grat to have one in a mediteranian city (to have some monaco feeling), one up north maybe with snowy landscape around it (and on the rallyecross parts), one in germany or france which is a highspeed track in the GP variant and one in the states (2 different oval configurations - superspeedway and smaller dirt oval as well as infield racing) and one track in the southern hemisphere (australia/south america/south africa)

but either way, i'd definetly pay for my S4 license to get one of these

since the AI doesn't race each other (except for the first 1 or 2 laps) but only follows the racing line and doesn't start overtaking, a single player championship is kind of useless..

fixing the AI, making their skills a vary from 90-110% in different parts of the race and allowing them to pit (which also could replace the horrile AI repair) would be needed first. i hope it will come sooner or later, but i doubt it - LfS isn't called 'online racing simulator' for nothing - could also be called 'do not race offline simulator' right now...

Quote from Tillverkad :This is supposed to be an endurance league and I would consider 2h minimum to be classified as an endurance race. With 1h races cars would be unbalanced again, when xrr can't take the advantage of less pit stops. 2h feels just right, but races could start an hour or half earlier. Maybe even more. Races start quite late here at GMT +2.

:twocents:

i don't race in your series, but you're completely right here - endurance races in my eyes are 2+ hours - everything below that doesn't leave enough room for different strategies with different types of cars

don'T want to disturb your creativity with inventing awards, vykos will not be able to win, but if you look at the title correctly, it is called TEAM awards

i'd nominate myself for the slow drivers award, but since this is about teams, i guess most of the award ideas aim in the wrong direction

Quote from TDSyco :Hi!

My Name is T. Dahlhoff [TDSyco] and I m driving the LFS-Endurance Grand Touring League.
I got Qualified for Div. B the last Races, even got to 6. Place the last Race on Aston GP.
I know my Skills and so I m very satisfied to be able to compete in Div. B in my first Endurance-Season.

I like to find a Driver (Perhaps even more Drivers) that drive simillar times as me and does not throw
the whole Race in the Towel because of one Mistake or because of no sight of winning the Race.
The main Goal for me is to Race not to Win (However winning the Race is even better *G*).
I m driving FZR, perhaps trying the FRR some day.
So it would be good if you drive FZR, too.
The last Weeks i was training nearly every Day.
As Team I would like to have one weekly Train together, even more as we like to.

Some more Infos on me and Code-Rebellion
I m 29 Years old, living in Münster, Germany.
I m working for The Phone House Germany (Carphone Warehouse for our english Friends here and do
everything neccessary to maintain our Intra- and Internet-Applications.
Me and a friend of mine are hosting some little Websites and Named us Code-Rebellion.
Unfortunally he is no good driver (Games on PC`s? whats that?) so I need to find someone else to
drive with me
So Code-Rebellion gives the Teamname and the Website (www.code-rebellion.de/cr_racing.php) and Rudi from www.designrebellion.de can do great
things to our Teamskin *G*
I just need one or two more drivers.

Requirements
You should drive for the fun of Racing, not only to Win.
You should do clean Racing and be able to fit your driving to a special Situation.
(e.g. Not driving straight into a lapped Driver and complaining about Blue Flag)
You should be honest and drive a Season to the End if registered for it.
You should be present to Teamtraining and Races you have registered for.

Last Words
I just want a little Team and emphasise a friendly Teamspirit.
I would prefer to drive with someone I know from "Reallife" but unfortunally there is no one of them
doing Online Racing...
Its not possible to participate the actual LFS-Endu-Season anymore, so you will be driving with me the next one,
perhaps we just start driving a League in beginning of next Year...
In the meantime we can train together and build up our Team (Setup, Teamskin, Taktics)
Oh yes and dont expect me to decide whom I want in the Team too early.
We ll just drive together some Races, and get to know each other.
We then decide if we believe we can go together well...

Happy Racing
Timo

nicely written...

i'm with a team right now, but your goals and requirements for upcoming teammembers sound quite good - not too focussed on winning and not at all arrogant (especially the blue flag part - respect the slower ones..)

good luck in finding some teammates - if you can manage to build a team around these aims, it will be a valuable addition to the LfS scene

if you do not succeed, feel free to contact me - i think we can always build in drivers like you into our team. i'll have a word with our teamleader then..

Quote from Fetzo :the easiest way is to put your signature........well....in your signature

hehe yes - but then again, i usually do not post for the team, i do post for myself as an idividual.. just helped my team leader with the MoE, because he doesn't visit the english forums and because he's even less talented when it comes to skinning (hard to believe, i know *g*) and i usually do not use my real name...

so i don't want to put that all in my signature

any security-software running? firewall, anti virus or something?

you do get lag each time you use network connection, so it seems like a network or network-security realted problem

since it also happens in LAN games, i would rule out ISP problems

hm i think all of the suggestions except for #5 are actually worth thinking about

as for the restarting - if the server host has more power to customize the hosted-game, this could be one of the options there (percentage of positive votes)

some of the suggestions were mentioned before, but then agian, good thoughts will be mentioned quite a few times - that's the difference between good and bad ideas
