Quote from Matrixi :Keep in mind, that your graphics performance with an x1 riser cable isn't going to set the world on fire because of the bandwidth, though I'm not sure is HD5450 fast enough to reach the limit.

It'll work, but those risers are really only meant for applications when you're just stacking a whole bunch of GPU's and running them for compute rather than anything graphically taxing. You might even be better off using your integrated graphics in the end.

i see what you mean, but with the onboard only having 128mb memory, and no WDDM driver thus no aero, a card with 4 times the memory should be a bit better, i hope, not expecting the world obviously, but if it will be somewhere on a par with the agp 8x nvidia fx5500 and radeon hd2600 cards i used to run on my old comp, which were both 512 cards.

Plus, according to google, pci e 1x has double the bandwidth speed than agp 8x does, also, my old comp was a p4 2.53 ghz with 1gb ram, this is, still a p4, but the 2.8ghz one, and has 3gb ram, plus SATA drives, it should deffo be an improvement on my old setup, which could handle between 50 and 60 FPS with a full grid with aa/af all on about half way, altho not on t1, serious bottlenecks there, but lack of ram, the slower CPU and old IDE drives didnt help there.

HD5450....

Eventhough its a SFF card, it wont fit, because the card is pci-e x16, and my comps slot is pci-e x1, and i cant even open up the end of the slot on the board like people have done in the past to make space because theres transistors and shit in the way which will foul the card, so have now ordered a 1x - 16x harness adaptor, that way i can move it over one space so it misses everything and fits in.

Quite annoying, especially if you look at my board, just below the 1x slot highlighted in yellow, theres a load of silver connections where it looks like a pci-e x16 socket can go, maybe on a different model or something.

I'm not sure yet as a few things need doing with it, mainly an engine swap a diff swap and an mot, it's a 2.3 on the paperwork but has a lightly modded 2.8 under the bonnet, very very fast, but technically an insurance fraud, and a pain to drive normally with a locked diff, currently waiting on a friend to source the right diff (an LSD from an early 325 hopefully) and then it's all getting swapped over.

Yeah I've had it for about 6 months or so, although its got to go as I'm banned from driving until march 2014, and it does have a fair few stickers on, but not guilty, as it came like that, it actually had some bright red stickers down the side skirts and on the front bumper but I didn't think red went with dark metallic purple very well so I removed them, wish I'd kept the bbs splits that it was rolling on when I got it though, it looked so much better on those rims...

I agree with Impreza09 here, it's one of the most annoying things, especially on a dual carriageway, not so much of a pain on a 3 or 4 lane stretch as cars still have a lane or 2 to drive on, but on a 2 laner it's particularly frustrating.

I know that there are quite a few parts of certian british roads where this practice is banned, and there were rumours of a possible nationwide ban on this in the UK, but wheather that ever came to anything i dont know.

Yeah, leaving it standing will just ruin the car in the end, ill look for a cheapish 316 E36 coupe once i get nearer the time of regaining my license, then i can at least get the same sort of look to the car without the really dear insurance, i know it wont be cheap anyway on any car, but all id really need is the M3 front bumper, coilovers and a set of 17 inch rims to have something that looks pretty much the same anyway.

Apparently mine is now an alusil engine, i have no idea what this means but thats what im informed by the guy who owned it when it had the swap done.

^^^ What he said.

Visually, the engine is the same, and with the larger exhaust system it probably wouldn't sound all that different, plus the engine was changed by BMW themselves due to some problems that some batches of the smaller engine had (something to do with nikasil or something?) and this was the reason for the swap, and BMW do have records of this, but that was a risk i was willing to take, and even if i told a new owner about the larger engine, which of course i would do, and anything happened then i wouldn't wish to saddle them with being in trouble over insurance fraud.

My baby once looked like this,

but i was offered 80 pounds cash and a set of smaller wheels as a trade for the 17's, and as a man whos currently unemployed i took it, plus the tyres were shot on the back before, now its got 4 legal ones, i now await the 5mm spacers for the front that i dint realise i was going to need because the tyres rub on the coilovers on the front -.-

Its still up for sale, but due to no MOT being left on it, and the V5 being inaccurate (its actually a 323i but has a 2.8l engine) ive not had that much interest, well, apart from people who want to give me either peanuts or want it to break it for parts, its too good for that, i wont let that happen to it, although some time in the coming week i do have a slightly unorthadox trade....

A friend of mine who is somewhat of an E36 specialist really really wants a good 2.8 engine for his drift car, so he is going to come and collect my un MOT'd car, take it to his workplace (he's a mechanic) take the 2.8l engine out, replace it with a good 2.3l engine that he has in stock, take it for an MOT (and carry out any work it needs in order to pass free of charge) and then return the car to me, so although from a monetary point of view im probably losing out, he gets a good 2.8 powerplant, i get a 323i back that has the correct engine in again so the paperwork is right, and a tested car that will be a lot easier to sell, everyones a winner
