Well, I think I have to be very clear on that one:
Actually, Scawen didn't mention chocolate at all. Nor any other kind of candy. He did say though that the Scirocco isn't the only thing he is working on, and he hinted that there might be an update on suspension (especially, as LfS doesn't feature the Sciroccos real life suspension type yet), graphics and other things he hasn't even disclosed yet.
So, basically he had the choice between offering the "chocolate" as it was (a highly detailed Scirocco without it's proper suspension, graphical bugs and only some fixes) or something of a better quality (VWS with it's real suspension, no graphical bug for users of a certain GPU, more fixes, more features) at a later date.
I am sure you noticed the quotation marks around the chocolate. That indicates that I wasn't about actual chocolate, which, on a sidenote, doesn't make you fat if it has a cocoa percentage of 70 or above, but rather using it as a metaphor. In fact, I just reused a very fitting metaphor of another forum user which I found fitting, and to which I was answering directly.
Also, I seem to not have gotten the memo which says "if you don't bitch like a whiney little kid not getting sweets, it's called brown-nosing".
Trust me, I'd like to see the patch or a progress update like anyone else. But do I loudly complain if I don't get one of these right now? No, because I have more important things in my life than updates to LfS or LfS' developement progress.
I'd also like to add that I trust the devs to be honest. As long as they don't say otherwise, I assume they're still working on it. And even if they didn't, it would still be no reason to insult them on a personal level like many in here do.
Now who's off worse? Someone who's offered chocolate, but due to unforseen reasons, gets the chocolate later. A benefit of the wait is that the chocolate is of a higher quality than it had been when it was offered in the first place.
Or someone who isn't offered chocolate at all?
I think that most of the whining in here is about as justified as the whining of a four year old, lying on the floor in front of the candy in a supermarket banging his fists and crying for chocolate.
I assume there will be tons of improvements, but none will be as pronounced as the Scirocco, making many people angry because "only the scirocco was added".
I might add that not condemning something is slightly different to supporting something.
I am personally a pacifist and I oppose physical violence in any form. Still, I kind of understand why the pirates act as they do, and I don't find it to be worse than how western countries act.
You may call it naive, but I am deeply convinced that there isn't a single person on this planet who is deliberately "evil" by heart. "Good" and "bad" are very dependant on your point of view.
Now I don't want to justify crimes or violence, but rather reming that every conflict has two sides who think they're right.
Well, neither is bombing countries, still the wets likes to do that.
To me, condemning pirates is quite hypocritical if you support war mongering governments or international enterprises which exploit both humans and ressources.
I just want to know what would be the difference between being kidnapped and being arrested by an unofficial paramilitary force.
Also, even though I too think that these pirates are in rather for their own financial good than any ulterior motives, I don't think they have the means to only pick out the "bad vessels" but simply target everything from the developed world.
If you don't care, what use would the info be to you?
If you have followed the wholen scirocco affair you know quite well why there's a dead silence from the devs. If not, let me summarize.
Scirocco was announced to be released a week after the announcement. Everyone was excited.
Then, during the Testpatching phase, which supposedly should've only shown some easily solvable quirks, some serious bugs appeared for a large number of those using the testpatch. Solving these bugs was more difficult than anticipated which pushed back the release. Which lead to many people saying very mean and stupid things.
Lesson learned: an announcement even one single week before the release is too early tro be 100% sure that it's doable. Thus, I think the earliest we will be informed of the next patch release is when Scawen uploads it.
Also, during the holidays, Scawen moved and got serious internet connection issues further preventing the completion of the patch, and Eric got seriously flamed which provoked the IMHO justified angry reply of him.
If the driving physics are good enough to be fun (see Gran Turismo or even better Enthusia) I can do without a damage model.
Of course NfS is never going to be a true to life simulator, but I'd be content with a proper "car porn" game for the PC.
I assume that the Scirocco will be released to the public with limited setup options.
I for one think that the version we will see is 0.6A, and not Z12, which I think is an internal beta build.
That is a misconception. As I have witnessed it with other games, it's rather the more info is released, the more people moan and complain, especially, if info gets out too early and that particular feature is cancelled.
Also, it won't change anything, would it? We know the Scirocco is going to be released and there isn't anything more to say about it. You all know what happened when Scawen estimated a time of arrival, and you all know what's going to happen if he doesn't meet his "early 09" estimation.
I just can't understand what's happening in the heads of some people here. They act like the Scirocco is 100% complete and Scawen deliberately holds it back just to piss them off. I for one think that Scawen will be even more happy than we are once it's released, and he doesn't hold it back for no reason but the simple one that it isn't finished to a degree that's compatible with his vision of the quality of LfS.
I love how the ones acting as spoiled brats calling those who remain calm and want to maintain a good atmosphere in here "blind fanboys".
Honestly, who's the more fanatic? One who can just wait as long as it takes the devs to finish it, or those who go through various negative emotions because they don't get it now?
