Quote from PedraumF :My solution to this problem, in case you don't have money, space, time or interest to make the wheel worth it: practice a lot with the mouse.

I do practice a lot with the mouse, I have over 2+ LFS accounts, been playing since over 4 years with touchpads/mouses.

and Yes I can use touchpad fine, same issue arrises is the hit of the throttle making control/tire.... bad

No wheel for me.... I want clutch/brake/gas pedals and a gooood wheel that wont break.... considering I need a new computer over a steering wheel. Hell I need a new mouse, keyboard, etc first everythings over 6yrs old.

hazaky, I did that with a gamepad I had, left knob was up/down for throttle/brake got kinda difficult.

Quote from Bose321 :That's the biggest bullsh*t I've heard today! Proof me that it's bad, since the internet in our country is pretty good actually. Do you even know anything about it? Or are you just being an typical American that says everything in Europe sucks? I bet you don't even know where Holland lays, let alone Europe.

Actually it was more-so a joke but alot of the networks out side of the USA really have issues coming into the USA, high high pings, etc. Everyone boasts how europe networks are better, sure cost wise (I've got a good friend living in UK, he works for a hosting provider) but even though it's rly close to him USA hosts are normally "quicker" at times.

The reason USA seems "behind" is theres only a few companies nation wide providing DSL, Cable, Fiber. DSL isn't going to get faster, cable can (DOCSIS 3.0 is coming out on my ISP already for example in their home state... 80/20 package as test, 3.0 supports higher though :O also Fiber companies have been offering 20mbps+ upload rates for years now.

When I hosted LTC I had 50ms ping, now that they moved back to UK (or wherever) it's 120-140+ which is almost unplayable.

Hosting LTC on my house connection I was doing 10-20 ppl avg (On a basic server) everyone boasted about the low pings, even people in other countries.... I did host a server again @ our datacenter due to me not wanting my 2mbit upload eaten.... but vmware caused some sort of packet loss lag.... thus I'm trying to figure out how to do this I'll probably give Xen a shot.

Quote from rockclan :250KByte/sec upload? that's uberslow
I haz 4MByte/sec upload, no not Mbit but MByte.

You sir have a tiny e-penis.

Bragging about speeds is nothing, you want to see what my servers can do? I'll out max your line - can't wait to have a office n the dc.

Oh and at my house we'll have either 100/80 down and 20/40 up (Not sure which but its one of those two)

Did I say I was hosting LFS at my house? Anyways your in the netherlands, thats UBER SLOW to the USA, hell most of europe is crappy hops, your ISP's disconnect & lag LFS users, etc.

Anyways, enjoy your europe nets! USA -> Europe = Always best

ON TOPIC

I'm going to look into how to get this ball rolling, sorry there'll be a delay I'm working on this and another project alone gonna flop between and try to launch both near same time.... neither I have a priority over since I would use LFS usa servers, and the other I'll use too

Sorry bout that!
Better mouse control

Hi, would it be possible to have control of the mouse? The throttle can hit too hard with mouse too quickly in turns and you gotta on/off click and that heats up the fronts, hard to keep the boost going, etc.

I love the XRR but it's very very difficult to compete w/mouse if I can't slow down max throttle control, so far it seems to take a sec or so to reach full throttle but it's just not enough delay....

XRT I can't drive AT ALL because it'll just slide out of control like it's wheels are ice blocks, any set.

XRG, etc are okay though the heavy throttle beats on the front tires after a lap or two I can't race w/out pit.

We need to think of a nifty method, maybe a button we can define to max throttle when pushed? IE: 50% when pushed, then throttle returns to normal after you corner or whichever. I use A for clutch and the mouse wheel for shifting (If you dont use that, ouch....) so pushing a button on the keyboard isnt a issue

Came to LFS forum, got excited and clicked the new patch URL.

Sad panda is sad, VWS w/out new tyre physics would be a treat for all before it gets boring w/the new physics, let us get bored of it with the old so when every cars new....

Make sense? Yes it does! Very much sense that it'd be a HUGE change in LFS, then the new tyre physics would be even more amazing whenever launched.

I'm tired and bored of all the current LFS cars, with new tyre phy they'd be nice because the handling is horribly unrealistic sometimes (XRT w/mouse I can HARDLY control, yet I can XRR no prob and XRG) people say mouse is faster, well I'm pretty damn good at mouse though I don't do real "racing" on LFS I find XRT just burns up tires, etc.

Oh and I'll post a new feature thingy.

Quote from topslop1 :I'm interested, sounds like fun.

I'm from CT - I'm going to have a friend come over tomorrow and try to help me out with creating a 24/7 dedicated server on my home pc. I'm on a 3.3ghz AMD quad core with 8gb of ram - so it would run without a hitch. My connection caps out at around 80-90k/s upload as well so I think it might be smooth with 12-15 people racing on it at 40k/s max upload used. Well at least thats what the chart said that I would be using when I looked at the in game non dedicated server settings.

I'll let you guys know more when I know more about it. But I've had the game for about a week now and I'm tired of racing on 100+ ping German snob servers. I'm bringing it back home.

I've ran servers at my house, I have a 250kByte/sec up cap and I can host pretty full

The datacenter is part of Kansas city internet xchange the average pings for USA would be about 60MS, 120 for europe roughly (We hosted LTC) ask Mark

Haven't looked at LFS server costs but I'd do the same as other companies, it's the same thing just different location basically.
LFS USA Server Host

hey guys

I have multi-homed colocation in Kanses USA, I could provide LFS hosting, better yet I could provide a USA 24/7 server and offer anyone wanting a USA node

Any interest? I've not had good luck with vmware thus if interested I'll look into another solution.

LFS uses about 10-15kByte/sec avgerage.

1mb is 100kB/sec, so .33 is pretty low.

You may want to reformat your cmputer & upgrade your internets

Driving with Americans is scary. You never know what someone is going to do. I have been cut off so bad that the front of my car has been UNDER their car, I have been in a truck and cut off where I can't see much of their car.
I have had someone move over FULLY into my lane forcing me into oncoming traffic (I almost sh** myself).
I have had a flatbed truck coming head on at me and I would be dead if I had not moved off into the grass beside the road.
While carrying a load of engines in a large 3/4 Ton Chevy pickup some tard in a Lexus decided to panic stop in front of me. Sadly I hit the brakes and barely stopped in time (brake pedal to the floor). I wanted to see what a Japanese pancake looked like.

Sorry about the O/T. My suggestion for driving in america is to carry a 44 Magnum.

maybe u should be paying attention to ur surroundings

FreeBSD 7.2, wine 1.1.11 or something.

Been complaining about the shadows for awhile (and prior wine versions)

I have 180.xx nvidia drivers (Ive used beta and such and update often, its always the same)

Low res, TEST mode works

high res test mode works too but looks too far

Theres stil a random line of shadow sometimes, less often now

thx

btw test mode reduces fps by no more then 1.5 for me on a high end cpu low end video card system.

Glad to see some feel the same.

LFS Needs to GROW, I'd pay monthly to play LFS once I saw a tad more development, yes I hate the demoers but allowing them in certain S2 servers would remove the need for so many servers

The LTC cruise server have gotten a lot to buy S2, if demos could join their normal servers it'd be filled more often, they'd see how effin fun lfs is besides the other servers they could join (We dont only cruise, so save those comments) and they'd buy

They buy, more money for the devs. A win win situation just by giving the servers a option to allow demoers or only let them spec may let them watch races and autox, etc.

Also I agree with the demo layouts should be allowed, i dont see why not
Fix the server lag

When someone logs in you cant leave pits, etc for a bit, I don't know if it happens under any more situations but if the guest lags at connecting, or multiple guests, you can just be sitting waiting for ever.

can't this be fixed?
Yes!

Quote from Shadowww :cmanns, have you tried low shadow quality?

As workaround you may disable shadows.

Low shadow quality looks even worse then high quality, I choose to use no shadows of course
VMWARE & LFS Server

Okay so I don't have any windows box's to run LFS on yet, I do however have a Windows 2003 Server vmware vps I run.

I don't use vmNAT as it experences issues after tons of packets sent (I used to host LiveToCruise) The solution was to use a IP address which I obtained.

I still get tiny bits of lag, the vm is completely idle using like 80meg of ram (Which is great for running windows) its not slow at all, I can open it and run firefox and such... yet we get tiny bits of lag like packets being dropped.

Any ideas? I'd like to host a United States server for us

The 8 would be a really nifty car if they gave it a tad more hp/tq

or how bout some more interesting GTR cars? FXR and FZR are kinda weak, I <3 the XRR but it seems to just burn out the tires too quickly
Allow Demo User Option in S2 Servers
cmanns

Popular servers like Live To Cruise Demo ones are often filled with people instead of other servers.

Now to stop the "cruise" bitching, let me clear this.

I don't mind cruise servers, I drive as fast or slow as I wish and it's nice to tune cars on, the barriers add a little more excitement to the course, but!

I also drive on race servers, and it sucks when all of them are only demo ones too, I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to make a system where demo users CANT "take over" licensed user cars, and the server admin could give them the option of joining and such, maybe just allow demo users to "spectate" certain races, or on servers like cruise/autox allow them to join in their type of cars while s2 guys can use their cars.

In the end it'll bring demo users closer to the paid userbase, and possibly coin them into buying a S2 license which we all know the devs and us would prefer, I dislike all the filled demo servers

Get it? Not the most needed thing but if simple to complete it'd be nice, also could we have a raise in server user count?

Quote from SilverArrows77 :Got to agree there, and has had me quite bemused seeing more and more of reports of LFS not working correctly under linux etc.

Whether Scawen in anyway supports the idea of running LFS under linux (or any other non windows system) i have no idea, but i dont recall it ever being presented as anything but a windows based application, and with XP, Vista, and soon to be Windows 7 i would think Scawen has enough work on the compatabilty side without worrying about unsupported operating systems.

Maybe users can at least consider this before stepping up and reporting it doesnt work as desired under unsupported systems.

and to the others about unsupported OS's

Wine and such is a compatability layer, wont ever be perfect.

What I said to Scawen was to point out that Z, LFS Z, works perfect under wine minus maybe a texture going out of place, since Z issues are worse under wine.

Theres no issue with my drivers, dri, x, blabla. I'm going to update my ports soon and see how that is, I have latest nvidia freebsd drivers btw and it made no difference but seems to perform a little better.

The only issue is that the shadows seem to be two, and dont overlap right, and are square.

No idea what he changed with the shadows but I wish he'd put a option to use the patch Z shadows for us wine users, LFS is flawless under wine, I've had it open for days, racing, etc.

Only other issue is the barriers cause lag in high numbers like on autox courses, no idea why maybe it's a wine issue but I get a large fps drop on windows.

Only bothered to post these details for Scawen, his game works gr8 on wine and I'd love to see it stay that way.
