Quote from RC-Maus :I wish

sigh, stop acting like a child.

Quote from Scawen :This is one of these things where you really need to experience it before you judge it. To the people who have tried it, you look a bit silly saying this repeatedly (I'm referring to previous posts where you have talked about VR in negative terms).

What do I judge? What if the VR enthusiasts actually are the ones going completely out of mind and judging that 2D is something from the past? Television makers already made that mistake by introducing 3D some years ago. Nobody wants to sit with colored glasses in front of their televisions at home. Let alone complete helmets!

But I like the idea of VR180 though and I follow whats going on with those 360 camera's, but, still.. I do not want to get infected with that helmet virus. Microsoft was doing something useful with this hololens thing/idea but overall VR news became very very quiet lately.. So, why not ask the ultra VR fans the question if something innovative is coming up because for the outsiders like me it appears to have stalled.

edit: searched myself now.. Version 2 was released this month. $3500, are they on drugs or what? Lol

Quote from Scawen :
I really wish that everyone watched all the documentaries by David Attenborough in recent years. I think it would be impossible for people not to understand the challenges we face,

Children and full grown adults watch these kind of "documentaries" nowadays;

These people are also from the UK. They are miljonairs but clearly lack proper education. Worst of all, adored by millions (and most of those people are car enthusiasts). Two of the three even have children.

This kind of garbage hurts my eyes to the max. But if I say something about it, I get attacked by millions of "fans". As long as this kind of clowns work gets massive attention and approval, this planet is doomed.

I do not understand the surprise belief what some members throughout the years bring up. There where never 'surprises', every release was a release what was being discussed in the months before. Lets keep it that way, surprise expectations only lead to disappointments/negativism which is unnecessary. Jesus is coming, some day.

Quote from Evolution_R :Added a comparison of the dynamic reflection options in BeamNG from left to right (turned off, high quality and low quality).

May I say I am not impressed by these images? BeamNG is also at least DirectX 10.1 (they say 11 themselves), not sure if they make use of these library extensions concerning reflections as I have no idea what the differences exactly are but LFS stays at 9. And that will be fine, I guess.

the work of this 'most people' themselves is not interesting. Good to read that something is being done on multi-thread/multi core level.

Quote from NumberTwo :Id think that BMW from 2003 if E46 would still have manual adjustment of brightness.

In case you have an E60, buy an E46 Big grin

No, like I explained, the E46 has this light switch with dot (at least the LCI had). The E60 has it too, the dot is on the left side of the switch. Could be a E39 where the light switch is directly next to the dail area. Whatever you do, do not switch car or car brand before at least 150 times thinking if the seats are OK for your back or not. The Passat killed my back and it took sadly way too much time before I realized it was coming from the car. It never fully recovered and I am very sensitive for soft seating now. Rather sit on a floor then on a soft sofa. So I can understand why sticking to an "old" car can be beneficial. If it drives and sits good then it drives and sits good. Although 300.000 km (188.000 miles) was getting too critical for the E46 at the time and had to let it go. All these trips to Wales/Newcastle, Norway, Croatia and now St.P (The Great Tongue ) are not really helping to keep the mileage down but car > plane. Quite safe to say after so many months that I am the only western license plate in the city so if you see me driving just wave hello and think ah this is this ass***e from LFS Smile .

Quote from MacedoSTI :maybe you can do anything for users see the dashboard glowing when lighs are on, same "3" button

I still refuse to buy a VR headset but I think the dashboards in VR can be very aggressive for the eyes and he is investigating this ambient light auto adjustment feature for this reason.

Quote from Scawen : You would be most helpful if you would give us some information about just how many cars have a self-regulating dash brightness and how many don't. When I code something like this into LFS, it's preferable to have some real world examples and general understanding.

OK my E90 LCI had it and the current F36 also has it (working on dash+navi screen). Any BMW road car would be most helpful @LFS. The Passat B6 didnt had it. This is N=3 .. 2/3 had/have it. I'm sure I've seen it in other cars as well but its not the first feature I keep in mind when I drive a car.

It also has a delay otherwise it would go loco in environments with shadow/sunlight situations

By the way, I do not know where the sensor is located. I have seen it once above the light switch... Hmm E46 maybe? [lets see]

edit2: yes.. It was my E46... Longggg ago.. Its that little transparant dot. If I putted my finger on it the display went brighter. Magic Wink .. Need to do something when stuck in traffic jams..

It's a bit frustrating that the more I actually do interact with the community and talk about what I am doing, the more certain members become frustrated because I don't appear to do what they think is the priority. And that can result in slightly sarcastic quips like your ending comment.

Just ignore it, time doesnt matter anymore by now.

Quote from Scawen :Thanks, I'm going to try and see if my car has one of these. I know it adjusts the radio volume as I go faster which is conceptually similar. Smile

Hmm no, a computer regulates this with help of a speed pulse from the CAN bus system.

An optical light sensor is that old that I was playing with that thirty years ago already (Kosmos X2000 anyone?), I am surprised there is so much fuss about such a simple electronic scheme.

Electronic scheme and the working of a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) and photodiode explained here; https://www.electronics-tutorials.ws/io/io_4.html

Quote from nacim :I really miss that feature on my MX-5 Dead banana

easy to make this aftermarket, if you really miss it

it are all cheap electronic "inventions" made decades ago already. Also the rain sensor comes from the time of a kids electronics experiment box (the same box actually).

Honestly I cannot understand why Skrill could give any paying problem. So many options.
Quote :aysafecard
Buy paysafecard from a local outlet and use it to add money to your Skrill wallet. No links to your bank account or credit

Only downside is that you need an account and that there are fees but every paying provider has fees (also Paypal although you would not notice this that quickly because the seller normally pays the fees).

below screenshot is a screenshot of my deposit option screen as I have an account @Skrill myself. Have not tested the bitcoin option yet as you need an account at Bitpay for this. (which is annoying, Skrill should make a crypytowallet function themselves, maybe in the future).

As you can see, Paysafecard is there.

Quote from Scawen :..Are you saying no-one from the UK..

I was later thinking that I needed to specify this.. But sort of yes, if all noses cannot look in the same direction on nation level, why would someone think it would work on a global scale. Changes start small, not big. The finger is directly pointed at bigger names; China, USA, Russia was mentioned (Brazil wasn't, why not? Massive deforestation takes place there). Russia lately joined the Paris agreement, not that it matters much because by UN rules they don't need to do so much to begin with. There are many dark thoughts about Russia (biggest country of the world) but if you would be here like me for the third time in a row (3x3 months) then its not so dark/evil (whatever) as what mass media would describe. Government / oil giants can be different but the normal Russian life is more then OK and better organized then most people think. Sure there can be improvements but even in my own country there is no return fee on cans for example compared to Germany where there is a return fee on a lot more plastic and tin cans. This are just small examples but for me makes it makes a huge difference to people who directly point to other countries and say "look what they do!".. Yes.. Well.. Look what you do first (or actually, not do)..

Quote from Scawen :Even you agree with that. [...] anything about it.

I agree that some action needs to be done. I donated 5 Guilders (our old currency) to WWF when I was.. Hmm.. Twelve or something.. It was a computer which showed how many trees would be saved in the Amazone .. Thing would go on for minutes by showing trees because didnt expect such amount I guess. Anyway, my point is, was this donation properly being used or did it go to some bank accounts of "world improvers" without actually doing anything except marketing and practicing empty talking. Now I am a little bit older and can research financial data from this NGO's. Guess what, most money is not being used to improve the planet. So yes, I am very skeptical about all this talk about we need to educate the world etc. Because who is going to do that? I do not count on LFS getting that popular.

Quote from Scawen :who don't have children. All the bad environmental stuff is currently getting worse,

Sid Meier already included global warming issues into his game in 1996, Simcity 2000 (1993) had also environmental concerns/acts in it. In my youth (eighties) people cried about acid rain, hole in ozon layer (which is by the way almost totally fixed due to global warming) and now we have CO2 issues. Most CO2 emissions are coming from the oceans. Killing the oceans is a difficult task because its 71% of our planet.

I short; I do not agree about this whole CO2 emission blabla (and I even am asthmatic) but I do agree about that it is too busy on this planet. And I also agree that the people with the loudest voices telling that something needs to be done... Have.. Children.. Which is, the main cause of the problem. Ironically. But yes I think the problem is not fixable because of too many religions, too many people which think selfish etcetc.

Nothing more to add about this topic.

---
However, believe it or not... LFS made a big difference in these "discussions of life". I have met people which I otherwise would not have met and shared interesting point of views. So a multiplayer simulator can actually help (a lot) bringing philosophy, other culture insights blabla to a higher level. Something which (a-)social media cannot achieve.

(Scawen is absolutely right)

?

Quote from cargame.nl :Growth is indeed a problem, human growth.

---
And nothing can be done about it because;

Quote :The idea of trying to influence human population growth is highly controversial and has been deemed too hot to handle by UN negotiators.

instead we are all going to battle the consequences of overpopulation. Good luck with that (it's never going to work).

So might want to get annoyed but the only way to fix this is to either start to kill on purpose or start to do some birth control. But, first Jesus needs to come back to tell that from now on it needs to go on a different way because Christianity alone is already 31.8% of the world. Is the pope already handing out condoms? No.

It's just impossible. It's funny to see voices coming from the UK though, dictating that the whole world must start to act different while they discuss for years (!) now in their own kingdom to find some agreement to being able to continue living with each other.

So this topic switches from some nightmode development to an environmental discussion? Thats quite a twist. But OK I take the bait.. Growth is indeed a problem, human growth. I repeat this quite often by saying it out loud in public area's. Not that it helps anything but it doesnt do any harm to address the real problem once in a while. Too much fckin going around, too many children are being produced.. This is indeed a problem. Several individuals tried to do something about it in the past (and present) by doing mass murdering and even making ethnic selections. But is this a proper solution?

Its certainly controversial. Difficult topic this discussion about our planet health but ye humans is cancer (bad cells which multiply uncontrollably and destroying the good cells in the process). Is socialism the answer? Looking at China (1B -> 16.7%) I would say no. Didn't got any less during the one child policy period and now they even let that rule go since 2013, so start doing the math. This planet will be destroyed sooner or later this is a fact. No point to try to delay this with a couple of years. A human year is nothing in this enormous universe. We are just stardust and also just a tinylittlepinywinybit of stardust. [impressive video]. So; Not. Important. At. All. This planet is not important, nothing to worry about. If it gets totally consumed the whole cycle will start again, so much time. Endless time. Until the Sun blows itself up. Then what would we do? *starts panicking*.

Yes and its a reason why its 32 there. It's not only videocard concerns but physics need to be calculated, MPRs stored, netcode needs to stay optimized. LFS still is single threaded (!). Its not simply raising a number and see what happens. I was in a lot of endurance race organisations after the raise from 32 to 40 (upon my request by the way) and the benefit of this raise was far less then expected because the attendance forced to do a two or even three server split after all. 60 signups means a split of 30/30 etc.. Raising the bar to 50 absolutely makes no sense. If you want to discuss a raise then you have to talk about at least a doubling of the numbers (48 -> 96 connections) otherwise its not worth the energy. But I do not see something like this happen before the internal engine of LFS changes.

Quote from Kyance :lmao man it's nearly 2020. A budget 300euro pc could run LFS with 40 players easily. Why limit something to the minority? Go big.

There are limited development resources, no need to waste time on something which isn't beneficial. The upcoming update is a graphical one, no-one has any idea how this is going to perform not with 40 cars let alone with 60 (on a full grid, this is something different then scattered around the environment). Go effective, quality above quantity.

Quote from mbutcher : digi-flags (I think Blackwood is the only track to have them at the moment)

Yes exactly, this was discussed before so I only mentioned it as a reminder. It seems that work on lighting currently is on top of the list so might be handy to address this in the process. I forgot to suggest; for racing its also important to have mobile units because of the historically very popular open layout racing.

Quote from NumberTwo :Scawen : Is it possible to make servers accept more cars and clients?

It has been answered before, its not an easy job to increase that number. If its desired at all, increasing grid equals increasing chaos. For cruise though it can be interesting but lots of stuff needs to be changed let alone the fact if people can still run LFS on their computer / internet which such massive grid.
