Just curious - how do you quantify that likeness?

Might be worth it as a server-side option, the way driving aids and view modes are now. It would be cool to have the same thing for tire options as well.

The bottom line is that it's none of your business how they go about theirs, unless they explicitely invite you to know about it or ask for your input. Forums are a victim of their own success.. They're an eminent venue for users to give their feedback, which too many users now take for granted as some guarantee that their unique point of view somehow trumps all the other users', or even the developers'.

So go make a better LFS, if you can do it better than they can, as you say. You're not privvy to the devs' plan; that premise is bogus. "NO progress at all"... Where do you find this stuff? Do you have surveillance equipment in their workspace or something? A blog would make zero difference, save some substraction to their game dev. productivity. You want them to have good work morale - let them do their job in peace.

The good ol "I bought your product now give me a seat on the design committee" entitlement whine.. Never gets old.

How about.. "It'll be done when it's done"? There was a time when games had zero interface between devs and players. There's such a thing as too much interface and that's the devs' prerogative. If you've been paying attention since 2006, you ought to know pretty much where that arbitrary lines lies in Scavier's case.

Max, I mean what Tristan pointed out as to the time frame for such a feature.

Quote from Zen321 :
I would like to see more competitors to the LRF class, being nice supercars. For instance, a Corvette Z06 or an Aston Martin (heavier than the FZ5 but more powerful)....

I modded the XRG, XRT, and XFG to be an AWD S-1600 rally kit-car on slicks, a Ferrari F430, and a modern Corvette, respectively, with the numbers tweaked just a bit so they were competitive with the LRF class. It made for great racing, 6 cars in one class, with those three new ones being both different enough from each other and the original LRFs, and easier to drive than the original LRFs. The FXO and RB4 could have made it an 8 car class.

This would be great for LFS.

I read your post and saw that video clip. 500 horses and all you could do was snail it around a pole. I just find that odd when you say that video inspired you. Kind of like me saying hurricane Katrina inspired me, and then I go squeeze a tiny bit of wind in the loo.

What are the odds this sort of thread gets one or more mfg's knocking on Scavier's door about copyrights?

The FZ is hardly anything but a Porsche as soon as you're in the driver's seat. It would arguably be something else if it had something else than a flat-6 in the rear.

European or american, there's a need for a big meaty road going engine in LFS. So far we mostly have high-strung 4-bangers. Not enough diversity.

Nice work, too bad the logo's so prominent. Even to someone who doesn't already know he's looking at a scene in LFS.

Just one small semi-OT comment. I don't think the FZ is hard to learn at all. The FXR understeers like a horse on ice and the XRR has trouble keeping the rear sticking.. The FZR just puts the power down easily and immediately, and thanks to the rear engine (it's a porsche), you can swing it around pretty efficiently (less than the XRR but a lot more than the FXR).
So the FXR might be forgiving, but it's very limited. And then it's slow, too.

And I'm not sure the FZR really behaves like an MR. MRs have a nearly neutral rear and front bias, you can feel the engine right near the middle of the length. In the FZ there's a clear imbalance to the rear. Even if it is MR in overall distribution, you can feel the rear is more dense.

That said, it'd be great to have an MR GTR. I'd say something about the balancing (from what I've seen spectating 5min every other month, it's still not near perfect) but I haven't played in over 6 months, if not a year. [/ot]

A country road track with a few configurations like that would be really very fun with LFS' physics. Even if only for hotlapping. There could even be a very long track configuration with insim scripting to roll players one at a time like in autocross and rally events. The track environment could have a hillclimb configuration, too.

The contest scheme is probably guaranteed to give the devs at least 4-5 very good and different shapes per car. So not everyone would have to have ugly rims
The only outstanding problem would be the different physics. They could just cancel that part of the physics (since wheels don't deform) by giving all wheel shapes the same physics that our present wheels have; there wouldn't even be any incompatibility with that part of the update.

I think it's worth doing. Those who don't care either way couldn't complain that it saps dev time, because all the devs would do is cull the submissions that don't meet the minimum criteria (e.g. shape clips with calipers, or too unrealistic design), and then let the votes decide.

I think they're fab, for a 5min job

I honestly doubt Scavier could deny that a relatively small choice of well made wheels for each car wouldn't detract from LFS' appeal.
