wheel4hummer, were you hit in the head by a 5-pound semantics reference book when you were little or what?

Wark, you know that lift is part of LFS' road cars' physics model?
I guess the aero forces figures aren't displayed for cars that couldn't have them modified in their setup. I suppose they'll be shown when we get the undertray aerodynamics modeled.

wheel4hummer, we're saying gross lift, not net.
Lift is negative downforce.. you know that.

I don't know that if there's lift, it isn't cancelled or dwarfed by downforce, so that the suspension would show no hint of its presence.
That's just what I think, though.. I mean without knowing how the model works, anything is as likely as almost everything else. Scawen himself said the undertray part of the aero model is pretty simple.

Seeing if those L/D figures are part of the road cars' models is the simplest solution, but I don't have the tools for that.

Quote from dpcars :next month i'll be talking to the guy who runs it (in regards to dp1 testing) and can mention the possibility if you like.

Please do.

You're just saying you don't want to play by the same rules as others.
The only way you win the competition is by satisfying the criteria.

That's right.. I only remembered there was a negative figure in the "downforce" tab.
Someone like Bob should have a hack to get the lift numbers from LFS, if they exist.

I just checked, and there are two figures, a negative "L", and a positive "D".
Isn't that Lift the negative downforce, and Downforce, the positive downforce?

Wark, you can see lift force in the garage, in the downforce tab, furthest right.
Cars without aerodynamics work (all but the formulas) don't have the numbers.

Anyway, Porsche aren't going to change the 911's trademark design. I suppose the Carrera GT has undertray gadgets, so it's not like they're allergic to using it...
LFS could have a streamlined pop-up spoiler, and it could be made to be disabled as any other driving aids we have now, so it could be entirely optional to players..
Would it offset the balance we have in the LRF class?

It definitely wouldn't be fair to the other two cars (although it's debatable whether the RAC is supposed to be fixed or not) for the FZ to have both straight line speed advantage, and additional downforce grip in the bends.
The wing's effect would have to be pretty small to keep things even.
The RAC would be the slowest in the class by a bit.

Things like this could work really well if we had server side rules. Servers could be scripted to handicap each car/track combo individually.
Ballast and items like this could be allowed, or prohibited, or forced, to slow or speed up any car to match the rest of the class' speed.

It's so simple, I don't see why it isn't adopted..

Quote :of course the 911s design with the rear converging into a pointy edge is the worst

But let's scrap that design anyway, it's not like decades of tradition really matter...
Ferrari should ditch their sound too, in exchange for more performance.

err One on fire?

Linsen, at that price, I'd get something RWD or AWD. It would make a good base to work on.

European performance cars are for the rich.. gross weight and volume is to UK roadsters what "prestige" and other intangible fashions are to the real american performance cars. The ones made in your garage as opposed to bought in shrink wrap.

Just make your own damn car/bike.

Scawen has got to find appeal in a real counterpart to compare LFS' physics against..

The drive around servers are a sort of novelty, but not much fun at all. There are better games to do those sort of things; LFS just doesn't have the features necessary to make that gameplay fun.
It's almost the perfect example of "just driving around" fastidiousness. Especially when the players on the server do only that, sort of like they're playing SecondLife or something. You play games like LFS to do what you can't do in real life, not to have some netcop get on your case..
Adding just open city streets would be a major improvement, but given LFS' priorities and development resources, it's not likely to happen soon.

I'd say ballast would be the one smallest, most effective improvement... it'd fix the classes, which needs only a well organised server setup to make for consistently great racing, like STCC does.

Considering how busy the devs are, I think a more complete LFSTweak would take care of the lack of new cars.. it's really the best solution for the situation LFS is in.
If we could change all the old Tweak parameters or more, and the suspension types, we could have some great "new" car classes to race.

LFS is about racing, and it does it great.. Scavier know it and are on the right track.

I don't know if anyone else has seen it, but you can see with a hex-ed that there is in LFS, at least in string form, mention of "racing" and "racing grooved" tires, besides the road, super, and four slicks.

Isn't there plenty of space left on the texture?
It would work the same as the formulas' wings' top and underside mapping.

Couldn't it be a retractable sort of spoiler? Surely Eric can manage one that doesn't spoil the FZ50's lines..

De Tomaso Panteras, a 71 and a later GTS. Just a bit overweight, and the torque peak is a little late.
Both work well with the F430 setup by Flotch.

Isn't the spoiler not nearly as important as the rear suspensions being the correct type?
Just a thought, if we had server-side rules, the spoiler could be part of the driving aids to allow, or not.

I also think the rear is already sticky enough.. as a matter of fact, there's no other road car I feel as sure of the rear in.
