Quote from lukelfs :iirc, S3 is coming out starting with Rockingham and the VWS and a Unknown car , I dont see why people should be moaning, If they dont like it then go play the game or leave, or shuttt uppp :P

VWS is s2 content, S3 will have Rockingham and a new car.

Quote from kimd41 :Of course, updates! I'm pretty sure the player count will go up once the Scirocco & other new stuff is released

People will be tired of the VWS pretty quickly i think and i estimate about a month before people start spamming for updates again.

Quote from kimd41 :But I agree with everyone in this thread, a little report every month or two will be great.

Yeah a report would be nice but it really is best to leave it as it is. Everytime they do an update there is people moaning about it taking longer, people that are unable to understand what they are saying... so it cant be inspiring for them to do that since it doesnt really help.

Just imagine, last time they did announce anything nothing happened, it took less that a month, i actually think new threads started up the very next day or so...

I would really want to see them add atleast 1 or 2 other cars together with the UF1, atleast one of them being RWD. Would add a whole new dimention of racing to LFS...

And NO! i dont think we should facelift the cars in LFS since they are indeed a trademark in/for LFS aswell as a good physics engine.

I am not against new cars in LFS but there is so much more that can be done with the cars we already have instead.

Like taking the FXR, slap a weaker n/a engine in it and balance it to compete against the XFR and UFR, and then make a GTR of the RB4 the RBR!!!

And adjust the handling of the RAC and then balance the FZ and the LX6 out and make yet another class with 3 cars. Scrap the LX4 and add a new car there... maybe a RB4 with a n/a engine to compete in the GTi class?

Remove the MRT and make a fantasy gocart instead. Do NOT add more formula cars!! there is already enough of those! maybe make a fantasy nascar for oval...

Just my 2 cents.

Why report when there is nothing to report?

He said what he is working on, now wait till he finnishes that and he will report the new things he is working on...

pretty simple really....

But RB4 can be FWD or RWD of you want it to, so it should be easier to setup for each type of track.

But yeah i agree, XRT on fast tracks where keepeing the ass in control is easier, is probably the nicest to the tires. But then the FXO still pulls away since its faster... and a good driver probably maintains the FXO tires aswell. On slow twisty tracks the difference gets smaller IMO, like south city... The RB4 has its advantage that if setup properly you can be pretty harsh on the gas early in a corner, while the XRT goes all D1gp and FXO fries the front wheels.

But i do believe that in the end it depends more on the driver and his/hers preferences and drivingstyle. Some people want that RWD to be fast, some rely alot on FWD and left foot braking to reach amazing results.

I think you are forgetting something about the TBO class, now mind you that i havent really raced to much in this class due to it not being very popular. But its defenetly my favourite class!

What i was on about whas that you are forgetting something important while comparing times and performance. Drivability and tirewear! IMO with my somewhat limited experience(ive done some 45min races) ive come to the following conclusion.

FXO: Fast but hard to drive and eats front tires
RB4: Slow and heavy but easy to drive and has more options to tweak.
XRT: is like FXO but i feel somewhat easier to control, its like between FXO and RB4.

This means that the RB4 could verywell be successful in an endurance race where tirewear and stability matters alot. Ofcourse the FXO can maintain its tires and still be fast in a race, just it depends alot more on the driver.

I do both things... but in public racing i always leave the other cars behind, cause no one ever stop or let me pass when they spin me out anyways so why bother? and if you get a BAN thats fine... there´s enough servers to choose from anyways.

In a league or on a server where the "mood" is right, i will however act differently. It all depends on the situation really, if i spin someone out so hard they get held up at the back or have to end their race i do continue, and i usually do a explenation and excuse after the race at the apropriate forum or ingame chat. And if the other driver decides to report it then its fine, let the admins set a penalty.

However if i just bump them off a bit, i let them pass instantly. And if they spin out and catch up i just let them pass.

It all depends on the situation really, sometimes its both or no one´s fault...

Quote from Minimaxman :I always assumed that Doglegs were only used on sports cars / road going versions of race cars (190e Cosworth, E30 M3) as when driving 'spiritedly' (on road or track) you're likely to need to change between 2nd and 3rd more often than 3rd and 4th, and this will be easier as 2nd and 3rd are directly above and below each other...

...if you get me.

Not only sportcars... these have swapped gear positions aswell... i know because my dad has owned a couple of theses and ive driven them...

...though i cant remember if R is where the 1st would normally be, or if 2nd is there and the R is left or 2nd... but i know they had that "dogleg" layout.. i actually prefer that layout to the "normal" one.

Quote from Forbin :I don't see why the addition of mirrors should complicate things so much.

That was probably one of the most sane things said in this thread.

It should not be that hard really, not for anyone! the problem has been stated more than once already... the problem is a too big EGO combined with poor racing skill and lack of respect.

Im currently working on the rules for an upcoming league, and i am holding the Lapping driver fully responsible for any accidents occuring while passing UNLESS the blue flagged racer does not hold a predictable line and/or attempts to block.

Insidents happen even the best drivers, and sometimes there is just no ones or both drivers fault...

Not everyone has or can afford a G25, will you limit them from racing with you? i have MOMO, its like 180 degree´s i thingk can only turn little more thatn 25% of a turn in either way, and features a sequential style gearbox. Am i not allowed to play the game and try to be competetive and realistic with what i have?

Now besides my rant here... i can give you a tip, create a G25 racers club! and get a server with a password. Then decide with the others what days and times you will try to be online... would be a solution to you problem.

-09 Will go down as the year of the whiners, it will be so fun when we look back in -11. And realise how much bullshit went on and how many who left LFS in -09 only to come back in -10 for the new patch as if nothing happend.

Personally -09 went down as a pretty good year.

1. My team has evolved even more, becoming faster and competetive.
2. I have improved my technique a bit.
3. Tried out hosting a gymkhana event, wich then got cancelled due to practical issues and lacking interest. Altough it was a great experience.

-10 will be a even better year. Both for me and for LFS as a game...

The best thing to do in LFS to get rid of this kamikaze arcade style of driving, is to stay away from it and join a league or something... i absolutely hated racing in LFS for a good while, i found it boring and pointless since i always ended up being rear ended in T1 or getting spun out att last corner last lap because someone wanted to gain a position fast.

Then i tried out league racing, and it got me hooked... i join in on a race once a week(if i like the combo) and the race is worth the wait defenetly... 45min of awesome racing and an awesome yet very competetive atmosphere on the server, minimum amount of crashes(even though they happen), a tolerance for slow drivers, and ofcourse slow drivers that dont want to mess up so they leave room.

It´s awesome and should be experienced by everyone.

Though sometimes ivé been wondering about starting a private server, and starting sort of a "club" for clean and good racers.. and thus carefully distributing the password only to racers that behave... in the beginning it would be a kinda small crowd... but if you like the swedish community have like a good 20 racers wich would pass the "clean test".... and then pull out like 10-20 from like 2 or more other countries you would soon have a rather sweet crowd of clean racers having a blast...

sorry for rant...

They are also real cars

Yes and you can pretty much call the lx4 and lx6 real cars aswell...

Since they are indeed kit cars... so there is no real guideline as exactly how they should behave or look. I usually pretend i have some sort of bmw 6 cyl in the LX6 and a tuned suzuki swift GTi engine in the LX4

So i count them as IRL cars aswell, since they are in the borderland somehow...

+1 on that! i think the series havent gone down one bit actually... i cant havent even noticed this you are talking about... i think it´s because once you start racing in leagues, you get hooked on the great racing you see there... the slow drivers move out of the way, the fast drivers know how to handle blue flag... and everybody usually keeps it together a bit more since there is more at stake...

Then you go public and you find yourself crahsed 3 of 5 races... and besides slow drivers handlig blue flag bad... fast drivers are even worse since they tend to just weck people out their way while passing...

Thats why the public racing is poor...

Quote from tristancliffe :Why not just move the pits and the start/finish to the back straights of each circuit, thus giving lots of room for lots of garages?

I figured this was the "easy" way of doing it... without have to change to much on the tracks... you know using already existing parts...

The best would be like you said... makinga normal pit along the straighs of the tracks... just it would need the tracks to be remodeled at a large extent..

The next idea may be the hardest one so far... that is adding pit to layouts! now this can be done in a couple of different ways.

One would be to just make a pit area on the blackwood parkinglot and the autoX, not with walls and stuff... just som boxes on a corner or along the side...

Another would be to make it possible fo place the pitboxes like obects wherever you want. This would however be quite a feat to pull off and my guess is it could be quite buggy.

By adding pit´s to autoX people could construct an infinite number of tracks, and there would be no shortage of "content" trackwise... not for a good while atleast..

Whats your thoughts of this?
An idea, track related...

Been thinking lately ánd i have some thoughts i want to bounce of someone. I have loads of thoughts and i will split it up into different posts to make it more readable.

We have actually 2 tracks in LFS that hardly never gets used... now i think its a shame since they are 2 very fun tracks.

It´s the South City sprint track 1 and 2, as we are aware these tracks do not have a pit. The reason is indeed that they are sprint tracks, meant for short races... but i do honestly believe that some sort of pit would make them more popular, atleast in leagues.

Sprint track 1.
This one would be the hardest since the "spawnpoint" isnt ideal for a pit area, it would cause some serious accidents since its right on a straight with no walls to shield the pits...

Now here is my idea.
The Red line indicicates the existing road that could be used for pits(it would need to be opened up), and green is that it has to be widened to make room for actual pit boxes.

Sprint track 2. Already have a small pit area, and i it is wide enough for boxes.. but not very long... but im sure a few boxes would fit there, actually there isnt to many people doing pitstop simultaniously anyways

Now what are your thoughs on this?

On-topic, There is also an entire interesting crownd gathering around LFS for a game that doesnt support mods like example rFactor. You have drifters, rallycross, cruising and racers... heck.. there even is dragracing...

IMO thats pretty unique, and i think that it is something that should be taken in in mind for the future, the versitality is what will keep the game alive...

Im a everchanging person... i like to do different things during different periods... if ive been watching some drifting and feel a sudden urge to drift... i start LFS and find a drift server... if i feel i wanna race i start LFS, and if i wanna rallycross... and so on and so on... the only time is really when i wanna do some rallying... then i turn to a rallygame...

Quote from Dac :Have you got any proof of this?

I can honestly say from the very bottom of my heart, no! but i also dont have proof that says it cannot be done aswell...

It´s pure speculation like 99% of the post in this forum. But since there are no such thing as a team with absolutely no budget and an infinite number of cars and parts, unlimited tracktime with the very same conditions 24/7... and ofcourse a suicidal driver with skills... there is the reason why it´s not done IRL.

Im do however believe it can be done...in theory, the movie with that Blackwood lap doesnt look that overly unrealistic to me TBH im sure that if you view that same lap from the drive by view it doesnt look that extreme. Just like real F1 doesnt look that extreme when they just zip by on TV.

In IRL though... like i said its to many factors besides the driving that comes into play...

Ive read the thread and now feel that i have to join in on this...

1st of all, statements like "i dont care about WR cause they are unrealistic" is very lame IMO... sounds like something a 10 y/o would say when he is jealous(spelling?)

To the case... im not sure its that unrealistic really, if you watch real racing you sometimes (from certain angle) can se the cars going a tiny tiny bit sideways. On bikes this is especially visible...

There is also the factor that LFS is a game... even if the physics where exactly the same as IRL, LFS times would be faster(like already stated).
Why is this?

1. The LFS car doesnt cost money, it also doesnt cost money to fix, so therefore there is no money to loose if you crash.

2. If you crash you press shift+P and you have the car fixed so you dont loose time fixing the car.

3. You can tweak the settings faster in LFS than in IRL so you save time on that..

4. you also have unlimited tracktime. unlimited tires and so on and so on..

5. And the msot important factor... it doenst hurt if you crash..

Im sure if you made a f1 setup that lasted only 1 lap going all out, and if the driver is nuts enough... and you have unlimited everything for practice and such... we very well could see a f1 car sliding around the track to make a superfast time.

Is there anyway to filter out the demo drivers from the demo combos these days? maybe allowing a car that isnt on demo like this. Bl1, gti-class, then add like bf1 and restrict it through insim?

Havent really hosted server before, but my team are considering getting a server and then have it rotate some classic fun combo´s... and ofcourse it would be fun to have it public when its not used for private team practice/events.

Quote from Boris Lozac :You sure you wrote that right? Did you mean 10 litres?

Ofcourse yo guys are right... i mixed it up a bit.. its 12-13 sek and thats about 1,2-1,3 liters. I guess its not super high... but for what a car costs both on insurance and in tax and the insane tax on gas, the standard should be top knotch! but the roads are so badly maintained that it sometimes even get dangerous.
