hey i really like the xfg, i am pretty fast in it and come to like it alot. Does anyone know what car its based on? I know the xrg is a starion/supra/ae86 whatever but i really want to know what the xfg is based on, i was thinking of buying a vw golf gl as i want to buy a car similar to the xfg
so if you know or dont please share!

its the punto. the car design is very similar and even the interior is the same.

but i would think about buying one lol. its as slow as the xfg and even hase the same crappy handling

Read the manual..... the interior and tail lights are from a Punto but the main car is based on a Citroen AX

BTW I seem to recall Victor used to have a Saxo VTS, which was built on the same platform as the Pug 106, which in turn is an evolution of the Citroen AX, so....

I'd say a Golf Mark 4 is a pretty close match as far as US cars.

But the question is, do you really want a Golf IV?

I always thought the XRG was based on the RX-7... they're both wedges.

It's definitely not a Punto. Maybe the interior partially is from a Punto Mk1, but that's about all. There's no 1.4 16v engine used in any Punto before 2003 (Mk2b) and even then it "only" produces 95 hp and revs to 6500. As for the handling, it's pretty hard to tell as the XFG is so highly adjustable. The XFG obviously IS a hatchback and handles like one, but I wouldn't say it's typically Punto at all - and I've driven lots of different ones.

So if you want something similar, go check out the Jap cars.

The XRG/XRT is based on a mitsubishi starion.

The XFG has always reminded me a little of the Citroen AX, but it could just as well be a mixture of many late 80s hatchbacks like the fantastic Suzuki Swift....

The XFG is too short to be a Punto IMO, going by memory it's 3700+ mm long while the AX/106 Phase 1 are little shy of 3600 mm. There aren't many cars of that era that are as short.

That's probably because the AX/106 platform is a late 80s design, intended to be extremely light (in the first few years even the 106 had troubles with the windscreen cracking because it was too thin), while the Punto is more in tune with the bigger/heavier/more comfortable/safer tendency that started in the early 90s.

Also the length ratio between the cab and the front is quite revealing IMO. Judging by the photos, the Cultus/Swift had a longer bonnet, and while it is true that the 106 Phase 2/Saxo had a longer front too, it still looks not as disproportionate as the Cultus to me.

Then again anyone's free to see whatever car they like the most in the XFG

dont forget about the crazy understeer in S1 106/ax due to their box shape...

pass 70 mph you understeer like crazy...
