1 movie I bought and saw yesterday which I find a good movie, very witty and with lots of action is Virtuosity.
Starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, what more could you ask for.

And a movie which I saw last night on BBC1 was called Phenomenon, starring John Travolta and Robert Duvall, about a guy who learns that he has telekinesis, and super-intelligence, I would recommend this movie-goers.
#29 - arco
Sideways is good, really good performance (as always) from Paul Giamatti. Although it was ages ago I saw that, so it might not count

Tombstone we watched last night. Val Kilmer and Kurt Russell both really good in that. Kilmer has some classic lines
Donnie Darko is one of my fav's too... here are some others that I rate highly, you have probably seen them as you are a film fan but maybe someone else can find it useful:

Requiem For A Dream - one of the most powerful and overwhelming films i have ever seen. If you have not heard about this film, don't read up about it, just watch it. My sister recommended it to me and I watched it without knowing what it was; it really blew me away.

Audition - I'm not a fan of horror really, but this is fantastic (if you can call it horror that is, it's more like Romance/Ultaviolence). It draws you in with its subtlety and character development then hits hard.

Letters From Iwo Jima - Someone mentioned this earlier. A very unique and focused take on the war film genre, I was most impressed with it.

Akira - A lot of modern films owe heavily to this inspired work of art, don't be put off because it is an animation either. Get the subbed version though, the dubbing can be distracting!

Also if anyone wants to recommend any films I might like that would be awesome

*edit* Oh yeah and I can't believe you don't like There Will Be Bloody, Day Lewis' performance is outstanding and he fully deserved the Oscar imo
Street Kings is a very good flim i watched the other night, just finished downloading 21 so gonna watch it sometime this weekend.

Doomsday is a decent flim to watch if there's no other flims out plus it has Rhona Mitra in it .

Ironman is a very good flim to watch other then the crap what is based of comic books.

Untraceable is a okish flim to watch aswell but is a little boring plus got some nice murder scenes it in.

The Great Debaters is one awesome flim to watch if you like Denzel Washington.

One Missed Call is a ok flim but is a crap remake of a Japanese horror film Chakushin Ari.

Horton Hears a Who! is a animation type of flim which i think is quite funny to watch plus i love these types of flims.
I watched HITMAN about a month ago. I know its been out for a while but i did enjoy it, well, what i could here...neither of my brothers would STFU while i was watching it.
Dan, I just watched "The Nines" and about half way through it I was at the stage of turning it off because it was such crap.

But, it went from nothing to everything in the last half hour especcially when all the peices fit toghether, not in the same league as Donnie Darko but definetely a hard thought out movie.

Seems like your thread asking for films to watch has changed so you are now telling us....thanks.
Superbad was OK the first time through, but it's not a movie I could ever watch again, for purposes other than "WHY DO YOU HAVE A GIRL IN YOUR ROOM!?" so I can reply "I'M WATCHING A MOVIE!". Anchorman though, I dunno why, but there's something about it, that no matter what, it's hilarious to me.
Will Ferrel has to be one of the most obnoxious people I've ever seen in a movie. I could not sit through Anchorman nor Talladega Nights.

I bet he's a paedo. He should just get a T-shirt printed with "Paedo" on the front, that would stop the whispering.

Funny paedo sketch.
Kev, I blame you now for me watching 4 episodes of that show now.
Gotta love Peep Show. Watched episode 2 of season 5 last night and laughed a lot. Episode 1 was pretty funny aswell.

I thought The Nines went the other way. The ending was incredibly retarded and pretentious, while the setup was pretty interesting/funny. Oh well, different strokes, I guess.

There Will Be Blood/No Country For Old Men are the big ones from last year, I guess. Both amazing in every aspect.

If you want a good coming of age story, there's a) Hallam Foe, with Jamie Bell or b) Rocket Science, which is about a kid who stutters but tries to join his high school debate team. Both are really funny and kinda weird.
I watched the movie "300" about a month ago cause my bro was in greece and his tour guide said to watch it cause it has psartens in it and it was a GREAT movie!! its defintely in my top 5 movies its a VERY Goery/bloody movie but since its all made on a green screen its very well made and VERY GOOD. I highly recommend it and also Transformers is also a good movie

Glad you liked it, it certainly gets you thinking, I think spiritually, it draws parallels with Donnie Darko, i.e. we are all in control of our own destiny's, "gods" of our own little world, or if we are not, we should be .

@Everyone else, cheers, theres a hell of a lot of films there for me to digest, should keep me going for a while!!!!.

As for Will Ferrel, man, I hate that bloke.
Wave Twisters is a wild multimedia spectacle, if you're a fan of on the edge animation you'll probably really enjoy it (unless you hate hiphop/turntabalism/scratching etc...) The way the creators have managed to turn sound into vision and create a narrative out of random sound samples is just inspired (the film is based entirely off an album by Dj Q-Bert). It's pretty out there.
Quote from danowat :... not sure the missus would be happy with the 9 min anal rape scene though

LOL... No, I guess it isn't really a date movie, but of my dvd collection I'm still not sure which, 'Irreversible' or 'Lap of the Gods', has been the stronger test of my relationships...

Quote from PAracer :Kelly's Heroes.

"Crazy! I mean like so many positive waves maybe we can't lose!"

Great film, Oddball being one of its great inventions. Love it.
First, let me tell you, I am a old film nut. Most movies I like are pre-21th Century.

First off, let me suggest you to watch everything in the Criterion Collection: http://www.imdb.com/company/co0044076/

I have yet to see ANY bad movies from Criterion.

And I must confess, I didn't like Donnie Darko. It was an interesting piece but.. nothing special. I saw the director's cut btw.

And now, another confession, Superbad is one of the few movies we have turned off before the end. It didn't have a point.. it was just erm.. pointless. Yes, I'm perfectly capable of enjoing stupid, college, bad humour etc movies and enjoy them.

Recommend a film you've seen lately.
