Cannot Get 3D Setting To Stick

Hey all,

So I have my DK2 rift plugged in, everything works. Have it set in extended mode, secondary monitor.

I fire up LFS (F12 patch) and go to Settings - View. I select 3D, then Oculus Rift.

When I hit OK, it says to re-start. After I click OK, it just shows the 2D button as highlighted like normal. OK, well I restart... and it starts in normal 2D like I never clicked the 3D button.

So I try clicking 3D again, and select Oculus Rift, and it tells me to restart. I restart... and it is in 2D again.

It is almost like when I click the 3D button and select the rift, as soon as I click OK it just reverts to 2D settings.

It is like my 3D settings do not stick.

Help?

Thanks!

What a great thing that would be.

Quote from jasonmatthews :The patch 2 years ago, when it was announced, was a nice surprise (but needed even then). To get the GTR interiors plus westhill updates was nice. The Scirocco was a bonus. Then to hear it would be delayed a little for some physics updates was exciting. When we heard it involved Stability control systems was cool. Then we heard it needed tyre physics updates aswell. At first I thought this would hold the patch for the other things back by a few weeks. What happened next?

NOTHING.......

Why are the GTR interiors still not done? Why are the westhill updates not done?

Oh right, it was those tyre physics stopping it? NO.

Why are the bugs in the KY tracks not fixed? Ummmmm....

Tyre physics? ......

What happened to breakable wings?

Tyre physics? ......

Call me a whiner all you like, but I cannot fathom for 1 second why this Christmas, Scavier couldn't have released a patch like this...
-------------------------------
Hello LFS users,

We are glad to announce a new patch.

We are sorry we haven't been able to release the new car (scirocco), and S3 with the new track, but we have to take our time with the new tyre physics.

We would like to reassure you all we have been working hard on this and S3, but we have updated the GTR interiors and an update to Westhill. We have also fixed the kerb bugs in Kyoto so you should have a better experience in league racing.

We have also made breakable wings etc etc......

You can download the patch here - Download

We understand you would like to try the new tyre physics and we can assure you that so far our model is alot better than before, but we hope you understand that we need to get this right before releasing it.

In the meantime, we will release small updates to the community as test patches, until we are ready to release a big update which will include the new physics update.

Thank you for your support.

Quote from ATHome :It's kind of weird. I can drive kind of fast in this game, but somehow it just doesn't feel like I'm on the edge of driving a 700bhp+ car. Never had the excitement of a "Wow, that was close, nearly lost it, but kept it in line" moment. Very strange feeling driving it with a wheel.

thats exactly what it feels like, I dont get it lol.

I didn't want to post this in the general f1 2010 thread, because it would get lost in the shuffle.

So I played the game a little, and I like the atmosphere of the game, but the controls sorta suck. I want to see if anyone is having issues, maybe its just my settings?

I use a g25, and have all the help (TC, brake assist, etc) turned off. I maxed out the FF feel, and have the weight at around 80%. It just... feels like I am driving a turd. Very vauge FF, I cannot feel what the car is doing at all, which makes it real hard to drive. Like really, the FF sucks. Forget trying to counter steer. Maybe it just feels like dirt 2, and that just means they made it that way?

Anyone get better results?

I think I just hoped too much that this game would be a nice sim racer with a fun story, and I am just disappointed that it is real arcadey. I mean even when I adjust the brake bias to the rear, if I start to go into a spin I just jab the brakes the car straightens out... hmmm lol. Not to mention the audio is very mediocre. And for people that say it has animated pits, it is very awkward how they set it up, you don't actually drive in the pits, you just hit the brakes... its stupid lol.

I feel like this might appeal to the console guys, but for anyone here I would recommend saving your money on this one.

So..

It would be nice if the devs would make a comment on why we cannot get rockingham when it is obviously fully playable...

Quote from MadCat360 :What's wrong with the turbo simulation?

If definitely is not realistic, just go drive a turbo car in real life and watch the boost gauge. Seems LFS is based just on rpm and the engine power to tell how many pounds the turbo should dish out.

and LFS is the new duke nukem forever.. sorta. In that we at least already have a game haha.

I would gladly chip in another $20 if it meant they could hire more people to work on the game, or at least get stuff done a lot quicker.

Agree?

For the love of god, if they would just let a few more people help develop the game, sh*t would get done so much faster. Its been ever a year since the VW was supposed to be here. How does that happen!?

Sometimes a bit of toe out can do a lot of good, on the front tires at least. With autox or other tight courses, some front toe out can really make the car more "willing" to turn into a turn. Makes it slightly hairy at high speeds tho. I run a little of toe out on the front of my miata actually.

Quote from JeffR :In real life and in most racing games, you probably want a bit of toe in at both ends.

During a corner, when at the limits, the optimal slip angle for the inside tires is less than the outside tires, so you need toe in at the front and back.

When not at the limits of cornering, but at the limits of acceleration, toe in at the rear of a rear wheel drive car helps stabilize the car. If the car gets a bit sideways due to slippage, the "outside" tire points more inwards than the inside tire, relative to the direction of travel, and you get a bit of self correction effect to steer the rear end back behind the front end.

Front end stablity is mostly related to caster, although most passenger cars use a small amout of toe in.

For racing games, depending on tire wear model, tire heat model, and the amount of grip decrease once the slip angle of maximum force is reached, how lateral and longitundal forces are dealt with in a particular racing game, using toe out can help stablize a racing game car under heavy braking. This was a common exploit used in Grand Prix Legends. What happens is that the tires are at the limits due to braking, so the critical slip angles are very small, if the front end starts to slide outwards, the "outwards" tire gets a higher slip angle and less grip, and the increased grip on the "inwards" tire tends to steer the car back. On some cars in GPL, such as the Lotus, and with braking bias set to a narrow region 52% to 54%, you could end up with a "reverse steering" effect under heavy braking:

dude if you could accelerate that fast in real life you would exert ~ 2,000,000 lbs, or around 10,000 Gs on your self! Sick.

Quote from Shadowww :No, thanks, I won't buy Core i7 and GTX 280 to play LFS.

There would be a button that says "use dx8 only" along with those little drop down menus for various visual process that you put on "low".

The fact that some people here are running 9 year old laptops for some reason is no excuse for LFS's extreamly dated graphics.

I bleaive we could make due with just fantasy cars, if the devs were to open the game up to voluinteers, we could even have a modeling compition.

The way I see it LFS needs:

A true rally course

A on road or off road hill climb with narrow roads!

A fwd rwd and awd rally car

a nsx like car

a lambo 4wd mid engine like car

a miata like car

a ferrari like car, a brutially fast grand tourer to say

some "club racer" type of variants of these cars, like what someone would build out of their garage. The game now just has street cars and full on race cars, nothing in between.

An LX8

Something for the drag crowd and vintage racing crowd, maybe an 69; mustang lke car and a 69' chevelle like car. With the ability to swap on drag tires or road racing tires.

A proper automatic trans.

A proper drag system that allows warming the tires and staging.

A true OVAL with a nascar like car

and of course atleast double the tracks. I bleaive the city track could have been done better with a longer route. We also need a nurbering (spelling) type track.

Up to date graphics and damage modeling. A rally race with good damage modeling would be amazing.

This is part of the reason im mad about the siccaro, we already have a fwd hatch!

Also, I just want to say LFS was cheap to buy. Im not saying Im not getting my moneys worth. Its just that this game has the potential to take sim racing to a whole nother level... I want it to do that!

Oh, one more thing. Take the current force feedback and mix it with i racing's and add the track bump modeling from i racing as well.

p.s.s the tire temp system needs improvement, they get too hot too quick most of the time. THe ability to flat spot would be slick as well.

Look, LFS does have the best physics of any game out there. When I go for a spirited drive in my real car then in lfs, they feel very similar just without the g forces. I have tried r factor, i racing, net kar, GTR evo, M3 challenge... none of them feel quite right when compairing them to a real car.

How the devs managed to make such a good physics engine is beyond me, epically because its 5 years old. Even the newest sims like i racing and netkar are only barley better, and they only have full blown race cars. LFS simply holds the best physics for street cars out there.

I simply think if the devs could hire 2 more people, the game would be so much better. Is it just me, or in the last couple years has the game seemed to be at a stand still? Its been the same cars and the same tracks with just minor updates. Now at least with this next patch well have a new car and ABS, thats if the patch ever comes out. Not to mention I dont know why everyone is getting so excited about a FWD hatchback, its well down the list of dream cars id put in my dream racing game.

Or, the DEVS could be willing to accept help. Im sure there are a few programmers out there that would be willing to donate some of their time to help LFS. With a simple screening process they could find a few people with good talent, and maybe they could get more stuff done without having to spend the money of hiring people.

Imagine the physics of LFS, the car and track selection of grand trusimo and forza, and the visuals of i racing, netkar, and some of the newest racing games. Why cant anyone out there make a game like this?

It would sure be a game I would happily pay for.

You hit the nail on the head. the only problem with LFS is its slow development, its not that they should, but they NEED to hire more staff. At the moment all it takes is one of the programmers to be away for a month and nothing gets done... Thats not good.

When a game is not updated for a long time, people get tired of it. When people get tired of it they forget it. Then when the update does come out, there are much fewer people to purchace it. With faster development, not only will the community be happier, but the devs would have a higher income...

Quote from Monkay :Think it's time for the Dev's to really think about commercializing. I know it's a terrible thing to think of, but maybe a nice office with a staff of a dozen of so people working on LFS a few hours a day and some retail sales(even tho the package isn't a complete one) would help progression for LFS. Everyone wants this game/sim to go places, it just needs more attention. I'm sure they have so much stuff on there plate as it is, and there probably busting there ass, but maybe some help would be good. Even if they keep it in the Community.

I'm sure there are plenty of programmers, 3d designers, visual effects professionals in the community that would be willing to take some load off the current Devs. For example, maybe they would like a new car class. Lets say a full blown Rally car. maybe a RB4-RR type of car. Ask for some portfolios, past experiences, references, etc... Conduct some interviews in the community and get someone else to do it. Could do the same thing with a track. Hell, it can be a community activity. Create a track which thousands of people contributed. I think it's worth a try, might make some decent publicity along the way.

The turbocharger characteristics are not that great... I see it as one of the few things that LFS is not good with.

They seem to base it off of rpm instead of load. If I tweak a car to have a 10k rpm and no power until 8k, it will still reach full boost at the rpm that it did when stock, which is pretty un realistic. another example is bounceing the car off the rev limiter makes full boost... not realistic. I would love to implement some way to base the boost pressure off of load, rpm, and the many other factors involved.

POPSY- you do realize a turbo can be spinning thousands of rpm without creating boost? thus it can whistle and make noise even when out of boost.

And this is all based on my experience with my turbo miata, its not like I don't know what im talking about.

what I wanna know is why they picked a scirocco out of all the much cooler and much more fun to drive cars that are out there.... . Plus we already have a FWD hatch.

Why not something like a saleen S7 or lotus exige S or a lambo, all different that any car in LFS right now.
