Oh well, we will try this new server option. Thanks anyway for implementing something to host our own 'home server'.

I hope LFS will keep growing. After 20 years it's about time that this hidden gem reveals it's true powers Smile

Awesome update, thanks a lot!

The only heavy downside (for me personal) is the removed LAN support.
Since the beginning of LFS I play a lot via LAN with my brother (both S3 licensed). Old school bringing my desktop to his place and connecting our computers to his local network. His internet line is too bad for online racing (gaming in general). I hope LAN will be implemented again.

Edit: Maybe it's an idea to unlock the LAN option for S1/S2/S3 users only?

Happy Holidays!

Great video of the MRT on that karttrack!
Will we see karts in the future? I hope so Smile

Still here.
Racing now and then.
Started with LFS when I discovered the first screens on the BHMotorsports site.
Tried the first demo, bought S1, later S2....and after all those years it's still a masterpiece: small gamesize, fast startup, good and challenging racing, excellent netcode. The only downside are the 1 or 2 real racing servers, all the others are drifts or cruise-only.

If we can have a Steamless and a Steam version => OK
If there is only a Steam version => I quit

I don't need 3rd-party software (malware that 'benefits' the gamers experience, right...) on my system.
If I buy a game I want to be able to install it and own it myself, not by running 3rd-party services via internet connections.
Example: Years ago I bought Half-Life 2 on dvd, I couldn't install/unpack it without being connected with Steam.

Please give me some real benefits of Steam...

Offcourse the majority of people who started with the first LFS demo are still here.
We have grown, so is LFS. Even after 10(!) years this simulation stands strong against new racing simulations.
Yes, the graphics are a bit dated.
Yes, new cars and tracks are welcome.
But once you start a race you just feel that the LFS experience is still there

Let's go for at least another 10 years

No:

* If this would be forced
* The Steam software can give problems that will result in a lot of "Help, problems with Steam...." threads
* I like the idea of the 3 independent devs without mixing them with the Steam community (this is offcourse my opinion)

Yes:

* More publicity = probably a larger community (but is larger always better?)

Quote from rpmmatt :Can't you read???
JUST BECAUSE A GAME IS SOLD ON STEAM DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE TO BUY THE STEAM VERSION TO PLAY!!!

Please guys, it's important you understand this.

Can't you read? I say I don't want to be forced, so I hope we can still buy via the website.
The devs wanted to be independent, well they are now and it works just fine.

Djees....

What makes you think I did not read 100% ?

I voted NO.
Im 100% with Psysim and Deejayyaj: I pay for LFS, I want to install LFS and LFS alone, no forced 3rd party application to install that runs in the background. By the way: you will be able to count the endless threads about "Problems with Steam".
At the moment LFS is a small and clean application that does the things right (updates, friendslist,...).
This is a good way to attract more users? Yes, but there are also other ways to make publicity.

@Ripley: that's possible and I've already tried that one, but still....

@Degats: The performance is not good as it should be with the other one

@Logitek: I've tried it already, but indeed...no go. It always fills in the onboard gpu.

To make things clear: The Nvidia card is used in other games by default, only LFS seems to ignore the Windows settings.

That's something I tried last night.
It's indeed an Optimus one.
Disabling the onboard card in Windows gave me......a black screen
The Nvidia one is 'triggered' when I run a game, well that's the theory anyway....

Actually, the OS is Windows 7.
And yes, the correct gfx card is selected in Windows.

your language is OK

Yeah sorry, I've made 2 threads, the other one is closed now

@cobra: No, it's not a Lenovo Thinkpad

A lot of new processors (i5/i7???) have an onboard gfx, is there somebody with a solution who had the same issue?

@Devs: Is there a way to edit the card_cfg file so I can force it to use the other card?

Thx, but it's a no go.

The adapter (name is displayed in yellow/green) is not selectable.
I've tried to edit the card_cfg by manually changing 'Adapter Select 0' to 'Adapter Select 1' but it doesn't work.

Problem with 2 graphic cards

In my new laptop there are 2 gfx cards:
Onboard Intel GPU
Nvidia 310M

In the Nvidia control panel I've set the main 3D card to use the one from Nvidia. Still, LFS chooses the onboard Intel one to use. I've deleted the config (txt) files, but still no go.

Help?
2 graphic cards - LFS chooses wrong one

I've been playing LFS since the 1st demo came out.
In those days LFS was big news on the BH Motorsports site (the 1st screens were "oooh" and the description of the physics were "aaah"!!!) and the forum was hosted at Racing Sim Central.

It must be in 2002......wow...already 6 years ago....time really flies....but it seems like yesterday

Quote from Dajmin :I'm on an AMD64 X2 3800+ @ 2.4GHz, GeForce 7900GS Extreme with 2Gb RAM. I only run 4x AA/AF because I sometimes record replays. I also use ElektricKar's 2.0 textures, the HQ tyres and Nice Reflection mod. I run about 140-160FPS solo, which drops to about 50-60 on a full grid. So obviously no problem at all for me.

But I don't even notice the graphics that much. When I'm racing I'm too busy concentrating on braking points and where other drivers are. When I spectating, I'm watching where other people brake and turn, what their speeds are and trying to figure out how I could improve over my own laps.

The texture/reflection mods and AA improved the appearance vastly without any work from Scavier. I recommend them to everyone.

I've found the Reflection mod, can you point me to the ElektricKar's 2.0 textures + HQ tyres pls? I'm not able to find them

Thx!

First:
To all the people saying
"my low end pc +/- 3.0Ghz + Geforce 5.x, 6.x, 7.x - series has trouble running this game "

- This is not a low end. After 1 year your rig is already outdated and has trouble to run this game? Come on...
- A pc is not a console, so you need to configure your pc to run games, applications etc... properly

I'm running this game on 2 pc's without problems:

AMD 1800XP
768 SDRam 266Mhz
Geforce 3 TI200
1024 * 768 resolution, no AA or AF
Full starting grid: +/- 25FPS
In race: 40 - 80fps
Ok, the gfx are not the best on this pc, but a simulation is all about the experience, not?
After the latest patch (W for me) the fps went up with +/- 10-15fps

AMD 4400 Dual Core
3 Gig DDR 400Mhz
Nvidia 7800GT 256DDR
1280 * 1024 resolution, max AntiAliasing and full Anisotropic Filtering
Full starting grid: +/- 60-70fps
In race: 90-140fps
Also on this pc, after the latest patch (W for me) the fps went up with +/- 10-15fps, way to go devs

Conclusion:
All the people having a rig between (or lower and higher) these 2 of mine, must be able to run the game without any problem on a descent framerate.
Maybe not on the highest gfx settings, but it's a simulation people.
Sims are not meant to have the greatest eye-candy imo.
Nowadays people are focused too much on gfx. You can see the results on the (PC) games-market: Great looking games, the newest effects etc... but NO playability.
Just be happy this game still runs on older systems with having a great experience. After every patch the frames go up instead of down. This is a lesson other gamedevs could learn from.

Congrats to the LFS dev team, you're doing a hell of a job to keep everyone (not only the people with the latest fancy hardware) happy and playing this baby

Just the 2 cents of a person who grow up in the 80's with the Atari, Commodore gfx games...

Spa
Macau
Brands Hatch (both layouts)
Zandvoort
and a lot of other good tracks....

It would be very nice to have real life tracks.
A track creator should be released + a community website like Rfactorcentral should be setup

Rfactorcentral proves it is possible to work without having 100's of the same tracks.
