Trinus VR

Well guys after much time off I'm back and playing. My son got me back into it and built up another sim. So I started fiddling with google cardboard as an output device and found Trinus VR. Interesting idea to combine head tracking and the HMD type of setup all in an android phone.

I've managed to get video through though it's slightly laggy because I can't run via USB though it's nearly there and I could do that via a different model phone than I have handy. But the biggest thing I'm running into is using the head tracking. Years ago, like 7 years ago I setup an IR head tracking hat using FreeTrack though it was long enough ago I don't recall if there was any setup or anything of the sort.

So I'm hoping for some configuration advice either on Trinus or LFS to get it working. Trinus lists Freetrack and TrackIR options as well as several others but I haven't had any luck getting them to actually work in LFS. I did manage mouse mode but from what I noticed there were a few issues there that I'm hoping would be corrected with a different connection protocol.

So suggestions would be appreciated, pretty neat piece of hardware. I actually bought one of those cheap plastic cardboard headsets from Ebay and then attached it to an old helmet. So now I'm completely immersed and honestly comfortable with it. Since the helmet solves the weight of the cardboard/interface to my head. It actually is pretty much the same as just wearing the helmet. Admittedly it's slightly harder to take on and off, and I may need to add a fan to my sim rig to get some fresh air blowing but it's interestingWink

Thanks people I'll check my account

Quote from zeugnimod :I think you get an e-mail, but only when the "official" patch comes out. There will most likely be a Test Patch before that that won't be mentioned in an e-mail.

Of, and if it's an official patch, you will be asked to download it anyway when you start multiplayer.

That I did know but I haven't really been playing LFS for several years. Honestly planned on getting back into it when the patch was supposed to be released back when and now have been in a holding pattern. Today was my first time on my G25 in nearly a year had to dust things off Either way haven't been online to update and likely won't be until the patch comes down the pike

Take care!

Luke

EDIT: Just realized that I hadn't been in my LFS account in such a long time my email was still listed for a domain I don't even own any longer. So now at least I'll get subscription updates and thread notifications

It's been long enough that I've forgotten but do those of us that are registered S2 users get an email when an update is released? Reason is I haven't had time to drive and I've been waiting for the new update for however long it's been so far Either way I'm getting tired of checking the forums to realize that nothing has changed and I'm still waiting

If there isn't a built in function for this who feels like starting a LFS update mailing list

Well that line can be the right line but the real problem with it is that it's the same line with all cars from what I can tell. Every car will be a little different and some will be quite allot different. Say for instance an XRT vs. a BF1 they will have different braking points going into the same corner and depending on how you drive that car your line will vary with both speed and breaking.

The more you read into racing theory you find there are often other "lines" you can take and depending on the circumstances they may be faster or slower. Lets say for example someone is on the idea line but they are off the speed, you can sometimes come in with a lesser line say a late break and sometimes you can make a switchback on exit and take that position away. I guess it comes down to the fact that if you have to rely on that line it will never change and in a real race you will find you have to make adjustments through the entire race.

Luke

Also I don't care for it, just gives me something else to look at while I should be driving. I also feel it might be a handicap to new players who rely on it to get their times, it can teach bad habits like taking a less optimal line into a corner because that's what the line on the track is.

Worked without a problem for me, running Windows 7 X64 Professional. On the default folder discussion, I really don't care where it gets placed. I run my own folder at c:\games that houses all my games(much like Victor it seems). I actually recommend this to other people if you reinstall windows fairly often. It saves me having to reinstall about 70% of my games because most of them recreate the registry settings when you run them, or run perfect without them. Either way most modern games run just from the directory(which is strange I had more trouble with that near 2000 than I've had lately). Either way I'm in the habit of changing the install directory on everything I install anyways.

Another thing that effects tires is your driving style. If you're having trouble with tires after 7 laps your probably going to find your answer there, but it could also be grade of tires.

The main reason that I can think of why a program like that doesn't work is everyone drives different and really a setup that may run me 50 laps might only give you 10 if your over driving the car, particularly during the first few conditioning/warmup laps.

Thanks that did it Strangely enough it read that it was on "high quality" though when I changed it down, then applied and then changed it back up and applied it fixed the problem.

So if someone else out there has fuzzy textures in Windows 7 with an Ati video card you should check the mipmap settings and if they are already on high quality move them down and back up.

Thanks everyone

Luke

(That last paragraph was to make sure if someone was searching the forums for the same things I was, IE fuzzy textures that they would find this thread and post with the solution)

Well I just tried patch Z fresh install with the same issue. It's not the skins because it happens to the ones that I built for league races in the past and those are hi res. Unfortunately it seems like it must be machine/driver related. I think I'm going to try and reinstall the latest RADEON drivers and see if that fixes anything. It could have been like this after my windows 7 install, I know I tested LFS but since it's just the skins that are weird I may have overlooked that. Either way I do appreciate the suggestions.

Sorry should have said that I tried compressed textures and changing res and z buffer and just about everything else I could think of. It's a really odd error, any suggestions though are appreciated because I very well could have missed something but since it appeared with this new update I wonder if it's related but I'm just not sure.

Gonna try and download Z stock and see if it clears up to eliminate that option.
Texture problems

Well strangely enough I seem to be having some texture problems with the new version of LFS. Also kicking myself for not backing up my install before upgrading

It seems the car textures and other various bits are very fuzzy in a non technical term. They look terrible and it's not on custom skins etc it's even on the prefab ones. I've reinstalled LFS with a fresh copy and got the same results.

Here is the info on this machine:
Intel Quad Q6600
2gb RAM
Ati 2900XT
Logitech G25
Windows 7 Professional

And I can't think of anything else pertinent. I haven't had any problems with any other games, was working prior to the update. Same hardware I've been running for the last couple years and was on Vista previously and the upgrade is new this week. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I haven't had much time to drive so it's not a huge hurry But when I get some free time again I hope to have this figured out. Oh and I'm running the newest Radeon drivers and DirectX.

Thanks.

Luke

Also I uploaded a screen shot to better explain the appearance.

One other thing to keep in mind is sometimes by copying the installation you change file attributes, I had a similar problem and it happened to be a read only file.

Just one other thing to watch for

Your wrong, you get one new sign in each week on Friday morning with a max of three I believe. Though you can get an active count by logging into the main lfs.net page and checking your account details.

(not trying to sound like a dick, just wanted to make sure no one misunderstood the unlock parts)

EDIT: RedCoupe beat me to the punch, he's spot on in his answer, also I believe 2 is the magic number possible.

I just wanted to throw my hat in the ring of sorts and thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this sim, despite any naysayers this is my and many others preferred racing sim and you've just made that a certainty for quite some time. Damn good work. Merry Christmas.

Audio Improvements
luke213

I had an idea the last few evenings of driving in LFS. I've got an Aura bass shaker attached to my racing frame and one thing I've noticed lacking is the audio surrounding impacts with other cars and also walls etc. Since sound is being transmitted into vibration by out subwoofers and also buttkickers etc it seems we could add low frequency audio into existing sound effects to add more violent effects to certain events. It seems that this could be adjustable(ala crossover in software) to allow you to tune the low effects for your sound system specifically.

Just a thought, and wondering if there's a way to mod this into the game or perhaps no one else is interested in this type of effect
