Are there any servers or leagues for specifically real life racers?
Hello

Just a quick question. Are there any leagues that cater for ONLY real life racers. karters, touring car drivers, single seater peeps etc...?

I am interesting in setting my own private server in which you have to provide evidence of being a real racer... MSA licence, FIA licence or whatever to enter... no offence to sim only racers (and some I would consider for membership)..it's just something I am considering... I just wondered if anything out there like this exists... I can't seem to find any on LFS...

it probably wouldn't be popular within the community of which I fully understand, I just wanted to gauge if people would be interested, and to fnid out if it has been done already,
Good luck, but I don't know how many of them you'll find. I'm sure there are quite a few RL racers in LFS world but I'm equally sure (to state the bleeding obvious) that the vast majority of LFS players sim-race because they can't race IRL. Of course the RL racers would all have to be in complementary time zones too ...

It wouldn't be a guarantee of quality or similar on-track attitudes either (in case that's your angle). I've seen some bloody awful driving from RL racers (or, at least, from people who claimed they were) and some absolutely stellar driving from guys still in school who don't even have a road license.
This is a really stupid idea, but best of luck.
first of all, those racers except of karting, would be very and a lot more important busy in there career than playing a sim... and i tell ya this cuz in a league I am there's a guy that drives in Nascar (Carlos Contreras) and he doesnt play LFS too much, just couple of laps every 3 months... and i agree with DWB stupid idea... and if you want that for fast racers you can grab the top 20 of WR's and try to invite them, and there you go... bye
It's just an angle I am looking at really. If I were to set up a server or a league, I wouldn't want it to be a generic server, you have to have something unique.

I know some sim racers are really quite talented. SinBad springs to mind, and I said I wouldn't exclude sim racers who shared a similar philosophy. In my experience however, I have found race craft from real racers to be more in line with how I view racing, so being an exclusively real life racers server might be more what I am looking for.

It isn't about WR speed either. Hot Lappers are not who I want to attract. It's racers....I want to have a grid of guys who race hard, and who are brave. BUT... I do not want a debate on racing techniques here and I will NOT ENGAGE IN ONE EITHER, just putting that idea out there for real licensed racers.

It is BY NO MEANS a measurement of quality because u hold an MSA licence, but I feel that this would make a server or league unique. There isn't any point competing with CTRA, Redline, etc... It would also give me the opportunity to try some ideas out as well.

For me the first thing I ask in a server is that if there are any karters in it. We all naturally seek out people like us to race. I do not think there is anything wrong with that. It would be just cool to go to a league where everyone wants to race as hard as you.

I would expect people to think it's a stupid idea, quite naturally, but as a guy who constantly has to put up hassle when I race, I would just like to bring together some like minded people. If anyone has a better idea on how to do this I would genuinely love to hear it.
I would love to race with fellow MSA licence holders!

Although it does seem very limiting if you say its just real life racers. I have an MSA licence and I also know that there are only 32,000 of us in the UK.

I'd like to race you in a FOX sometime though Intrepid Did you check out the GFC?
I'm an ex-karter too, fwiw. WKA.
lol of course it would be very limited in it's scope. But very attractive nonetheless. Also it could help bridge the sim-rl bridge. It would be quality to go to RL racers saying these guys MR X, MR Z etc.... who race in reality race here to. Give sims more credibility possibly if it was easy to find out what RL racers play it.

Again it's something I am just looking into. I can imagine most of the community looking at the idea in distaste, but if they do look at it in distaste they are not the people I am looking for.

I wouldn't exclude sim racers either. SinBad would be welcome any time.

I know it sounds like I want to set up an exclusive club, but it's not what I am aiming for. Just a starting point of racers who share a similar view. I feel at the moment the racing in LFS is very limited, very set in it's ways, and as it's me who has the problem with it, I may as well DO something about it instead of complaining.

ANyway continue with the comments I read all with interest...
lol... well I didn't say I would have a ban on sim races... I for sure would include any ones i deemed worthy... how egotistical does that sound????? i wish the was a big head smiley.

The thing is I continually come across frustrated racers, who mostly tend to me real racers, who complain about the standard of racing... not in terms of speed, but just a generally difference in philosophy. I would like to provide these racers with an opportunity to race like minded people.

Making it a real racers only server would provide straight a way an opportunity for real racers to compete against like minded racers, but I would happily allow sim racers to enter if they felt the same way.

I am realistic in this. The CTRA etc.. are so big, and trying to muscle in with an exclusive server is probably too big a task if I am being quite honest. But at the moment I personally feel that at the moment the guys who wanna race aren't being served.

I want a server where people aren't shackled because of over excited and sometimes awkward admins who think we own them a huge debt (u know who u are ) , and where you don't have to fear people wrecking you or driving badly.

QUE THE MUSIC

I want a server where people have the freedom to race, and not have to worry. Yes there needs to be rules, and anyone exploiting them will be dealt with, but I just want a place where I can race people like me. And rather than wishing about it, I may as well see if it's a possibility for me to set up.
A number of the gentlefoot.com referrals come from real life motorsport sites. Hear are the stats for this year.:

It's a small % but one that I did try to tap into with very little success. Apart from these referals lol

Intrepid - I really think you should try the GFC.
Quote :LOL I would do anything to not race with this Intrepid guy...... http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=32381&page=3
he calls this a good pass http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fgMBPxW3y6s

I siad I wouldn't engage in a conversation about racing techniques, I feel I have made my points already crystal clear. And this is my point. I can't be bothered to race guys with your attitude to racing. This is what this is all about.

Yes I have tried GFC, but I would like to develop I common philosophy between the drivers, and competitiveness that I just don't find easily on the open servers. I want somewhere people can go without fear of being chastised.
Quote from Intrepid :Yes I have tried GFC.

When?

The GFC trys to develop one philosophy between drivers by way of the rules and judicial system but all drivers are different.

I like to think that in the Gentlefoot Challenge events we drive fairly but aggressively and if anyone oversteps the mark they lose points. Seems to work well.

Rules: http://gentlefoot.com/LFS/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26
Judicial Footage: http://gentlefoot.com/LFS/forum/viewforum.php?f=3
Decisions: http://gentlefoot.com/LFS/forum/viewforum.php?f=34
several months back. However I don't know where this will lead. I already have plans for another sim, but as LFS is the most commonly used I would like people to be given this opportunity. Maybe the idea is TOO exclusive, I don't know. Just want to put the feelers out there.

Yet you express interest in setting up a server/league/whatever with only real life licence racers..

Its been tried by various groups before, plus, I think CTRA has roots embedded in that area, so why do we need anymore?

Question.. How would you enforce it? How would you make sure an LFS'er is licenced for real?

Sorry, but what a load of elitist clap trap this is.
Well, looking at that video, the 2 passes aren't the person being overtakens fault, the first one is a late braker who divebombs and fails, and the second one, is the divebomber losing momentium, and getting owned on corner exit.

Is anyone else bothered by the prevailing attitude that racing is out of reach for "normal" people?

Sure its a expensive hobby, but so are a tons of others that aren't so "out of grasp" (paintballing, scuba diving, almost any kind of collecting, going to clubs, ect...you could go racing for the cost of any of those)

At the very least find your local auto cross club, It cant be only in America that there is almost guarenteed to be one with in an hour of your house (hell I cam to find out that several clubs hold them in my small hometown, search the name of your area and solo2, or autox, or whatever in google and read through message boards that came up for contact info).

Racing is not elusive, and you don't have to spends thousands to do it at a grassroots level (again autox is like $50 an event and if your car doesn't explode if you run it through its revs your probably good)
Basicly if you can afford a G25 there is no reason you cant get into racing.

OK, OK...sorry end rant.

It doesn't sound like too bad an idea to me, so long as you can find the people I like the idea. Its always weird to me when people love sim racing but have no desire to try it for real...
I dunno, by the sounds of it, when I get a few years older, AutoX might be a fun way to pass time, especially if Michael Denham is still kicking around, maybe meet up with him to sort of introduce me to AutoX.
i dont understand the problem here, intrepid would like a league to race like minded people, and u guys are saying its 'elitist crap'

yes, it is elitist, because most people drive like pussies, and there are plenty of leagues for pussies.

this thread isnt a about driving so dont bother to reply
PS sidi is a good racer too alan.

Well, maybe he should start a league for "real racers" and see how it goes.

TBH, I have raced real life racers in LFS numerous times, and they are in no way ANY better than any other decent LFS racer, infact, they tend to be worse (tintop drivers anyway) simply because IRL they are used to "leaning" on each other, and that just doesnt work in LFS.

The reason people say its elitist crap, is because it is, infact it's bordering on trolling, simply because you/he are saying that (most) LFS players that are non-RL drivers are crap, and that just simply ain't the case, it's pure testosterone fuelled willy waving, "I am a real racer and I am better than all you non-real life racers ner ner ner ner".

Also, I would like you to clarify just what "driving like a pussy" constitutes.

no it isnt
the thing with elitism is that it requires an elite
like i said, this isnt a thread for discussing driving, or it will become an argument and get locked!

Sounds like elitism to me................

Bottomline, instead of baiting on this forum, just make a server/league for "real life" racers, it's that simple

So calling 'most drivers' 'pussys' isn't likely to create an argument?
