Round 2

Sunday,15th October
17:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

1st round featured tight urban temporary course which was lapped under 1 minute, the track of 2nd round is different just in few ways - it's not that tight,at least not mostly and it's not urban. Still laptimes under 1 minute required to be in better half of the scoreboard, even if the track is couple of hundred meters shorter than the one from round one. Overtaking possibilities - theoritically few if you're really faster, otherwise it might get problematic without patience.
After 1st round we have few favourites for the title,on top of them the defending champion, but this different track might mix up the cards and make series a bit more interesting from spectators' point of view.

probably won't make the races, may just do quali/practice. Timezone kills me.
Worst race ever.

Gained some positions in first couple of laps... and then everything went to shit - small damages to the front made it so that when I'm braking Front Right wheel always locks up, that meant increased temperatures and lost traction. When I decided to pit in, went in too quickly, popped said tire and went straight into a container.

And then, couple laps later, tried to move my keyboard a little bit, but by taking finger off analog stick of my controller, car started to go left and went straight into the fence... Stuck there for a couple of laps, managed to get out, till again, couple laps later, crashed and spun off... That was it for me...

Before the race there was a hope that this different track will provide some different results and make the series more interesting. But the early hope was kinda destroyed when championship top4 qualified for the race in exact same order. And the situation did not change until final 10 laps of the race, where drama started due tyres popping like soap bubbles. 2 at the point leading drivers and few others saw their rubber not lasting full distance and had to pit, while few with different tyre settings finished the race without visiting pitlane. Botsi was one of them - his medium compound tyres lasted for full 200 kilometers and brought him victory of Containa GP of Blackwood. A.Wiśniewski was the fastest on track, but too fast for his tyres. Also his late race chase shrunk the gap to leader, but he run out of laps - just under 1 second gap was left at the finish line. 2nd place finish and both bonus points for A.Wiśniewski. Y.Laprevotte also had to change tyres late in the race,he had to settle for 3rd place despite leading a lap.

Half of the series is finished and we're now half sure about outcome of it - A.Wiśniewski lost 1 point from his gap,but still is 4 points ahead of closest follower Botsi,Y.Laprevotte is 3rd,11 points gap to table leader. Theoretically everyone is still eligible for the title, realistically seems like besides leader only following 2 have a good shot, other 2 drivers also not very far away. After half season we can also speculate the outcome of Rookie of the Year competition - Y.Laprevotte leads over B.Botev by 5 points.

Teams Championship is also still wide open - Vires leads over only 2-driver team higher in table by 7 points - let's see if Tiger Express Motorsports can reduce the gap,FNC is 3rd,already 16 points behind. Nations Cup is the one where the potential for title fight is highest - Poland leads defending champions Finland by just 1 point, with Grenland in 3rd place already 17 points behind.

With 18 cars on grid the short track felt relatively crowded and there were few contacts, but next venue features actually narrower racetrack but with way more run-off areas - Rockingham ISSC. It's the newest track around here,so there aren't that many publically available car setups, let's see how that will affect the race. Theoretically A.Wiśniewski can secure title after next race, but that seems practically impossible - 29th september will provide some clarity!

Round 2

Sunday,29th October
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

2nd half of the short season starts in english real racetrack of Rockingham and the relatively short and quite narrow ISSC configuration will be used for the Rockingham V8 200. A total of 65 laps are required to reach series' nominal distance of 200 kilometers.
What was possible for one in 1st half of the season,is also possible for others - this means all the titles theoretically are wide open for competition. But with only one round left after this one we will know who will be eligible for the glory and who not.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Over night between saturday and sunday the summer time ends in Europe,in order to keep the event in same time for most participants,UTC time will be adjusted. If you're living in timezone where the summer time does not end during this weekend, make sure you check correct time!

We can discuss what had the most effect - if it was the track many did not like or more interest watching racing than doing it themselves, but 3rd round of VERL 2017 series got a fairly big attendance drop, including both championship table leaders, meaning rest can now do some catch up and so the 3rd position in standings did. Race for positions was quite early over and for most of the distance it was more like time trial - 7 cars started with 2 of them retiring early, field was spread out and the only fight was with own concentration, stability and gap increasing/decreasing. Even if there was one final rush in last few laps for 3rd position due mistakes, final race results are same as standings after 1/4 of the race. Y.Laprevotte started race from 2nd position, made a move in braking area for turn one on polesitter, got the pass right and led the rest of the race, picking up 15 points for race win. Altsu was able to set fastest laps in both sessions, but overall race pace was just good enough for 2nd place finish with 10 seconds gap after 65 laps. Despite pitstop and costly mistakes after it,J.A.Katila defended his 3rd position during final lap and took the final step on the podium.

With just 1 round left series table has a lead change - Y.Laprevotte now leads by 5 points over A.Wiśniewski with Botsi in 3rd another 4 points back. This sums up main candidates for the championship title with 4th driver theoretically still eligible - Rony has 14 points gap to leader and needs to win final round with opposition either retiring or finishing in very low positions. Meanwhile Y.Laprevotte has already secured Rookie of the Year title - his closest opponent B.Botev is already 21 points behind with only 17 possible.

Drivers Championship possibilities:
Y.Laprevotte secures the title in any scenario if he wins. If he finishes in top5,A.Wiśniewski may not score more than 4 points more than he does.
A.Wiśniewski secures the title in any scenario if he wins, picks up both bonus points and does not share any of them with Y.Laprevotte - any tie-breaker with Y.Laprovotte is in favour of A.Wiśniewski.
Botsi secures the title in any scenario if he wins, picks up both bonus points and does not share both of them with A.Wiśniewski,in addition Y.Laprevotte has to finish 6th or lower. Also he has tie-breaker advantage in any case over Y.Laprevotte and in case of winning final round also over A.Wiśniewski.

In Teams Championship the situation is a bit better for Y.Laprevotte's team Tiger Express Motorsports - they lead over Vires racing with 8 points gap. Theoretically 6 teams can win the title,2 of them requires reinforcements for final round, other 2 a great performance boost with drivers from leading 2 teams failing hardly during final round.
In Nations Cup the situation is most clear - Finland needs to score 7 points to secure 3rd nations title in row,2nd position here also will be decided between both Drivers Championship top candidates.

Just one more round left in this years a bit shortened series - the Westhill racetrack is waiting for racers already this week to find out all 3 remaining open title owners. Let's hope for a great season ending race with much intrigue - Westhill's International configuration will be raced in reversed direction offering some fairly challenging turns and twists.

Round 4

Sunday,5th November
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

Final round is just around the corner - with just one week break,VERL 2017 continues it's path towards all the title decisions in Westhill. The longer International configuration will be used in reversed direction - tricky turn one with braking area in turn, addidional chicane on 1st back straight and few turns that will seem easier than they are - make sure to stay on track when going through final sector flat out. 35 laps are required for 200 kilometer distance, should be possible to complete them under 1 hour.
Championship possibilities are already posted in post above, not much to say there anymore - one last round ahead, which will decide the main title and both non-individual titles,as only "Rookie of the Year" award is secured. Wait for sunday evening for remaining new or repeated title winners.
