OMG, just watching the final practice and onboard with badoer and anthony davidson and everyone else suddenly went quiet as they realised that badoer lifted to go through eau rouge, apparently he's loosing 1/2 second just with that lift.

feel really sorry for the guy, obviously he's so out of practice that it must be embarrasing for him as well as everyone else, i didn't realsie till yesterday that he hadn't driven an F1 car for 9 months and had never driven a 2009 reg car or on 2009 tyres before last weekend on top of his years without any racing at any level.

to save weight all we need is a lump of uranium out of a nuclear reactor, drop it in a preassure vessel full of water and bobs your uncle. to save weight we'll skip the lead shielding but i'm sure tris won't mind that as he's a real racing driver and the danger's part of the fun

oh and if you can pay enough we've got a couple of reactors down the road so i'm sure i can get some uranium in the local pub on the side

just a thought, i don;t suppose some of those poorly "chipped" evo's or cosworths would have qualified for the steam record when the headgasket lets go when they're flat out ?

also don't forget that malard got very close to the world steam record when it set a new steam train world record of 126 mph in 1938 which suggests that the problem with using a "car" for the steam record is that you cannot carry enough fuel and / or water, which is why they preheat the current "kettle".

i suspect that if diesel and electric trains hadn't come into use, the outright steam record would now be held by a train

just realised im posting a lot about trains with this and the opposed piston engine thread, i'd just like to re iterate i'm not a train spotter, i'm just interested in mechanical things in general (honest !! )

nothing new, try fitting three crankshaft running opposed pistons in a delta shape in one engine.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... s4Scs&feature=related

stick it in a train and you get one of the greatest diesel trains ever, probably the only one to compete with steam engines for the affections of train enthusiasts.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... tn-AM&feature=related

(not a train enthusiast my self but the deltics sure had plenty of power for a 1950's design)

EDIT: forgot to say they put two of these monsters in each deltic

Quote from Sponge :Well.. those recent 'renovations' really screwed up the track.. the chicane should have stayed the way it was all those years.. I loved those super slowmo vids of the cars flying over the curbs!

hm.. the good 'ol days..

well lets face it the chicane that was there "all those years" was "renovation" of what was there before but like the current version it was put there to slow the cars down becasue of safety issues. whilst we may not like these sort of things it's better than loosing tracks like this completly, its the same with the monza chicanes, the chicanes that were put into hochenheim's outfield section or most of the alterations that have happened to silverstone since 1972.

loads of people up in arms about how "historic" silverstone lost the GP to donnington yet to me it's a shadow of the track that i first knew

plenty of other circuits we know have been altered a lot too, just do a google for images of interlagos and compare the circuit maps for the current layout and the old full circuit and of course a large part of what we know as spa has nothing to do with the original circuit and was built to connect the public road sections when the circuit was shortened, going further back, the same is true of donnington compared to the prewar circuit and of course monza used to have the banked track in use as part of the main circuit

always looks bad when one driver has a noticably larger amount of engine failures than his team mate even if it's probably not his fault, at the moment vettel is in serious risk of suffering the 10 place penalty for using more than 8 in a season. also renault engines are usually very reliable in F1 so as has been previously mentioned it's possibly the result of the instilation.

having said all that, the first failure was probably one of those things and the second may well be the result of doing an engine swap on a car who's designer is notorious for designing cars that are very difficult to work on due to their packaging.

and its a case of thanks LFS, but bye bye!

never say that mate, despite hardly ever using LFS since iracing came out, i would never say bye bye to it.

its a good solid sim with good car physics and the racing can be just as good if not better than iracing if you're in the right server

i dont use LFS much these days but real glad to see this, shows LFS isn't fading away and good news for those that race on it regularly

(also makes abit of a mockery of those posts that crop up now and again from people when they first install LFS about the tyres not having as much grip as they do in real life )

saw that a few minutes ago, so looking forward to the cars and that circuit

wonder how the licences will run for it? road or oval or possibly mix of both? i'd assume road A since they left a gap above the lotus for an openwheel A class car

be interesting in ferrari stick to their plan and run badoer at spa, he certainly seems to think they will and his sticking to his plan of running this weekend as a total test session. if he does race there will be interesting to see how he fairs on a track he knows after having completed a race weekend. it has to be said that vealencia is probably one of the worst circuits to make a come back at after a long lay off with the walls offering little room to make errors whilst you find the limits.

on the other hand i like the idea BBC gave of sticking piquet in the ferrari till the end of the season, he's still current on his knowlage and, as was said, often you put a driver in a different team and you get a completly different performance. plus it would give them a yardstick to measure kimi (and by association massa) against ahead of alonso's (alleged) appearance in a ferrari next year

spanks, one thing i've found helps is once you know you can do the sectors, trun off the HUD

you know you can do the times so just relax and stop chasing them, nothing more likely to cause a mistake than knowing that you're first 2 sectors were on the money and "all you have to do" is hit your optimals for the next 2

Quote from carey : but I’m pleased the idea of banning tyre warmers has gone, as with slicks drivers have had real trouble after pitting.

i bet brawn and button are heaving huge sighs of relief given how much trouble they (and honda before ) have had keeping tyres warm behind safety cars or when the track cools.
