It'll be a good start, but not really practical for most people until the cost of a seat plummets. The experience of suborbital flight will sell, but in the distant future I can see LEO hotels cropping up too.

Quote :by the same token i could take a picture of my speedo while doing 150 on the M5, and could photoshop it - sure, it should look photoshopped - but what if i happen to be the greatest photoshopped alive?

Because it's easy to Photoshop one frame realistically on a clean photo but making 25 moving frames every second on grainy, interlaced film look realistic is a hell of a lot harder.

This isn't a car, it's a crime against humanity:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wi ... ltipla_front_20070605.jpg

It's fugly inside too.

This is also obscenely ugly (the new one). Doesn't know whether it's a people carrier or van and therefore comes across as schizophrenic crap:

Quote :The megane is a good looking car, the new clio not so much.

The old Meganes (late 90's) was nice, it had a sporty coupe look to it. The newer ones look like a polygonal nightmare. The 'sport' edition of the new Megane is a joke too imo.

Leave the new Mustang alone! It's still quite sporty and performs well, which a lot of modern cars are lacking.

Also, not many people seem to know this but £500 or under for a decent machine is very achieveable providing you don't shop in PC World or any of the big Dixons-owned stores.

Yeah, but who would object to screwing Atari out of £30?

I prefer FM transmitters myself, but I use mine indoors to send audio from my media centre PC to my hi-fi. I don't know how well they perform in cars.

If you can, go down to your local Halfords equivalent or in car entertainment store and ask their advice

Quote :The new Fiesta is a real shame tbh, the Mk3/4 models were hot looking especially the Ghia and Zetec models, but the latter models have turned to crap on their "new base", which is like a smaller version of the Fusion

Don't forget the Mk5! It was very similiar to the Mk4 as well, and was the last decent Fiesta Ford made imo, because the Mk6 (the Fusion-looking one) really is ugly.

Quote :If I have to choose between a MK5 or 6, it would be 5.

Good taste! I drive a Mk5 Zetec Fiesta (not the Sport )

I have to say I like the new Lambos (hate the interior though) and the new Viper...

As one who hates modern cars, here's my list...

- Ford Fiesta Mk6 (excluding ZS/ST), Focus Mk2 (ex. ST and saloon), S-MAX, C-MAX
- New Renault Clio
- New Vauxhall Corsa
- New Fiat Punto and the one before it
- All Peugeots since the 206

So basically anything that's just an average, cheap, crappy, ugly, heavy, slow modern car.

There are many crappy 'real driving' sims out there but none of them seem to have anywhere near decent physics.

Jakg- CGI always looks a bit too perfect. Not only is the shading is always easily definable from real video, you also don't get the sharp edges around objects that real DV tape gives you, and you tend not to get interlacing etc etc. Have you ever seen a CGI video you could look at and say "Yeah, that's real"?

As for the speedo itself being edited, again that's incredibly difficult to do because not only do you have to match the camera shake, you also have to get the film grain on top of that, not to mention if the camera goes out of focus for a few frames, that also has to be matched in the CGI speedo.

There are so many things that separate CGI from real video and if someone had the ability to create something that convicing, they wouldn't be posting it on Youtube- they'd be working for ILM or something.

God, I put way too much thought into that. Bottom line, the guy's an idiot.

This could actually turn out to be an interesting little topic as people probably have all sorts of random weblinks and piccies on their CTRL-V...

Graphics cards use DDR3, normal RAM is usually DDR2 now. So you can use DDR2 RAM and have a DDR3 graphics card.

Why are you replacing a 7900GS? That's not a poor card at all. Your focus should be on buying another GB of RAM, a processor and a PSU.

To me, buying a £1000 wheel to play commercial racing sims is a bit like using Sennheiser 595s to listen to FM radio. The games will never be able to use the wheel's full potential.

Steering comp with wheel at 720 should be 1.

By the looks of it, it's just vibe feedback and no force feedback, which I guess the bungee system is designed to compensate for.

That first shot seems to be F106 on PS2.

CE's graphics ain't great either in screenshots, even if they are covered in shiny effects to compensate.

Get a proper car and not a heavy, modern French piece of crap.

How about the Fiesta Zetec S, Focus (Mk1 or 2) or a Mazda MX-3/5? Unless you're really obssessed with getting a new-ish car, a lot of older cars are better.

The main problem I have with the F1 games is that the textures are CRAP. They seem to lack detail and 'texture' and are way too primary-coloured in F1 06. Whereas LFS' textures (the high res ones) are superb.

Shouldn't spring and damper be 0%? Also, I think centering spring should be ON but at 0%.

I use a 15" wall mounted TFT from a supermarket. Haven't got a clue what the response time is but it doesn't matter as I don't notice ghosting that much and the screen doesn't have any fancy input buffer thing so I don't get lag.
Donny South, anyone?

Just wondering if anyone is going to the Donny South show at North Weald Airfield this year?

Yes, it's mainly a modified car show, but I'm going along anyway because it's about 5mins away from me, the final of the European Drift Championship is there and there should be some nice non-rice modifieds there.

Here's the website if anyone's interested
