This is probably going to sound like spam, but Microsoft is currently offering Office 2007 Ultimate to students for just under £40 (retails at £600-ish).
All you need is a .ac.uk address (the offer also applies in the US and Canada, don't know what the conditions are there). To me, paying £40 sure beats the hassle of acquiring it through 'other means'.
Just went online- the quality of the other racers is pretty bad. Every corner there were people going off and whenever I caught up to a group of cars in quali, all of them seemed to spin at the next corner! I'm not THAT quick, yet I managed to set the fastest lap (2:26) within 3 laps of joining my first server!
DFP Settings:
FFB- 101 or 140%
Others- 0%
Center Spring ON but at 0%
Wheel turn 270 for linearity with in game wheel
In game FFB at 85 (if DFP is 101) or 35 (if DFP is 140)
Reverse FF effects
.PLR Tweaks:
Remove throttle vibe effects (set to 0.0)
Remove brake vibe effects (set to 0.0)
With these tweaks, you only feel the wheel turn without any of the vibration effects. These settings are based on RSC advice for GTR2.
The BMW game itself is a decent enough semi-sim and it's possible to have some sideways fun now the tyres feel half decent. Easily the best ISI-based one out there. However the feel of the wheel is strangely non-linear- the first 45 degrees each way feel heavy then go light after that??
There was once a place in my town that fitted bodykits and sold the usual 'rimzz' and a huge selection of gearknobs/badges/trinkets. Strangely enough, they went out of business.
Jakg- I guess it didn't like my ATI Xpress drivers then, which isn't a surprise as the Fujitsu drivers it has are horribly slow. *Waits for the Vista Omega Drivers*. 3DS 8 works fine though.
What annoys me about NASA is that publically, they're all "colonise the moon this, explore Mars that" when in reality they're about to phase out the Shuttle (which is the start of the future of exploration imo) to go back to Apollo tech- seems a step backwards like scrapping the Concorde and the Sonic Cruiser were- in the faint hope of reaching the Moon within 20 years.
They really haven't been pushing exploration forward since the early 80's.
Talking of Virgin Galactic, I hope they find Steve Fossett. He's one of those people that reaffirms my faith that humans can achieve great things etc. Without people like him, Rutan and Branson, we'd be stuck relying on NASA.
Even though the Mk3 has the old engine style and the Mk7 has the Zetec/Duratec, I'd be willing to bet the Mk3 is a better car as well as quicker simply because the Mk7 is so heavy.
