Quote from G!NhO :It only has cosworth heads or something, but its a mercedes and they are very reliable.

The second thing is just nonsense, if you buy a car thats younger than 25 year than you have to pay much more than an old timer (25 year or older).

The Mercedes i want is 25 years old so i only have to pay for insurance and that is only 50 euro a year.
But if the Mercedes is only 24 years old then i have to pay 720 euro insurance a year, and 430 euro road tax.

SO if i want to buy a car that is compareble to the Merc but much newer, than i really can't afford it.

I don't think in the UK you can even have classic car insurance until you are 21, it's crap over here.

It may only have a few Cosworth parts but they are still very expensive to buy as if I recall correctly, they are made to order, not ready available off of the shelf brand new, I may be wrong here though.

Force of habit sorry, if I put LOL it has made me actually laugh, Lol is a smile and lol is a sort of meh .

Quote from G!NhO :Why not a Mercedes 190E 2.3-16, or just the 2.3 version.

I am almost turning 18 so i can do driving lessons, and my choise for a first car is either a BMW E30 318i from around 1986 or a Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 from 1986.
I have to pay no road tax at all for them because they are more than 25 year old, and the insurance is about 50 euro a year!
My stepfather has a Mercedes 450SE that runs on autogas/lpg, and he only has to pay 47 euro insurance a year!

What do you guys think is the better choise?
BMW E30 318i 1986 - Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 1986.

And i will probably buy it in Germany because it's cheaper.

Please don't say the 190E 2.3 16v you want is the Cosworth as the parts are expensive for them, my step uncle found out if he was to replace his manifold on his, it would cost £2,000 :O

Quote from G!NhO :Wow you english people are getting ripped off.

Yes we do get ripped off, but I suppose there is one good thing about it, and that is, that it stops us getting stupidly fast cars for our first and wrapping them round a tree.

Quote from Nathan_French_14 :I dont get it.

First you claim you want something small and nippy, and now you want a BMW? IMO, go for something small like a corsa, clio, saxo etc to keep the running cost's down. In the BMW, you will be going through tyres alot faster than you would if you was in a FWD econo-box due to the rear wheels having drive, so you will wear them out alot quicker than you would on a FWD car.

Also, repair cost's would cost more and your insurance would be more expensive as would your fuel consumption.

Also, (and im not trying to be a troll) i know i have said this MANY times before on this thread, but your dreaming. DREAMING.

Stop day dreaming about what car you think you are gonna end up with, and concentrate on getting some actual money so you that you can go and buy this car when the time comes. Its all well and good getting advise about what car you should buy, but your getting too excited and ahead of yourself. Your not 17 until February next year, so it (in real world terms) wont be until april/may kinda time until you pass your test (maybe longer) and thats even if you purely concentrate on getting it done. Your going to need money for your lessons and tests with the lessons being expensive, so there going to cost you alot. Also, if i remember rightly, you dont even have a job yet right? Another reason why you should stop day dreaming and concentrate on being able to get everything you want as atm, all this talk about you wanting to buy this car, and do this modification to it is extremely pointless considering you have no sort of significant cash flow.

Again, i dont mean to sound like an arrogant prick, but its the truth and you need to realise that. Get a job and some money, then come back here instead of hopeful wishing.

I have a job, have done for the last 2 months. The only other hatchback I'm actually interested in, is a Civic 1.4 and thats the same price as a 316i.

As for tires, if money is tight and I can't afford brand new tires, I will just nip down to Plymouth tire center who sell part worn tires - imported from a country where they have to change their tires after a certain amount of miles if I recall correctly.

So you may think I'm dreaming, but I'm saving to try and make it reality. The only money I'm spending is on my bike and thats only the essentials.

Quote from richukss :It is, and - no he won't
IMO you're looking daft, as you say, in some kinda of small fiats, pugs, vw's and so on.
And also, if you don't like BMWs, that doesn't mean that everyone else shouldn't like them too.
And sam93, i would go for a e36 coupe, e30 touring with 1.6 just ins't right

I like that e36 coupe a lot, but the e30 touring is also growing on me lol, looks lovely with the mtech 2 kit. The touring also has the 2.5 running gear so when I get old enough to insure a 2.5, I can just bang a 2.5 engine in it

I will make a poll when the times comes on here and on SSS.

Quote from Agniz :Actually, he doesn't look daft in these small crapbox'es, because about 99% UK young peoples are driving them

And I want to be in that 1% that don't drive them :P

Quote from pearcy_2k7 :Stop trollin tristan, he wants the car so let him find out for himself, the sign thing wasn't funny either its a little old now. From what you sound like in that post your the one who should be watching out for the police acting like a 12 year old, youre in your 20's now, you should know when a jokes gone too far and frankly im sick of you sprouting shit, thinking you know everything, disagreeing with everything, mocking peoples car choices. Just grow the **** up.

He's been told, well done mate . I was thinking the same thing, but couldn't be assed to type it out lol.

Quote from mrodgers :Kids driving BMWs, and you call our country rich....

Quote from tristancliffe :Yes, I am saying that.

You only like BMWs because you think you'd look good in one. If it was for the driving experience, engineering quality, 'features' or the like then you wouldn't want one. BMWs are all about perceived image.

I always like the way you have to bring engineering into everything, I want a BMW because I like the cars and want something different from the usual first cars.

I like BMWs because I like them as a whole and you also can't really knock German engineering lol.

Quote from Jakg :You know you can't actually do that, right?

You can't place a "tag" on a car so the police know its not stolen - otherwise everyone would steal those cars as no-one would stop them...

You do know you can right, you can go in complaining about harrasment and they will then stop following you or pulling you over.

So basically you are saying to have a BMW you have to be over 30. Also, I don't want the BMW to look good, I want it as I like BMWs.

If the Police do keep on stopping me in a BMW if I get one, all I have to do is go to the cop shop, tell them what keeps happening with proof to back it up and the will put a tag on my car that will alert the Police in the car that I am over 17 and it's my car, job done - Bobs your uncle, fannys your aunt and slimdicks your brother :P

Uhm, I guess they thought everyone had tiny hands.

I guess macs have their uses, for example, I want a macbook pro for sixth form as they have an ally case so will be able to take more of a beating then a plastic case, obviously windows will be getting put onto it lol.

Hmm, people on SSS are slowly persuading me to get an E30 316i touring, nice cars if they are satin or matt black lol. Suppose to be under estimated cars for what they are, suppose to be pretty quick.

So know I have the problem of do I go for the E30 touring or E36 coupe lol.

Quote from Jakg :I take it you haven't driven a car yet, have you?

I can just about deal with a satnav - any 7" object in the way of my windscreen is bad enough, let alone a flashy one that actively draws my attention away.

I know a few people who have 7" screens in their cars as it is part of their headunits, these also have satnav on and it doesn't cause them any problems. You mount it in a position where you can see the road and the screen at the same time.

Quote from Jakg :thats equally dangerous to look at :P

Mount a 7" Touchscreen to the top of the dash where you can see it If you don't want to drill into the dash, you could find an alternative way to mount it onto the dash.

You're obviously trying to bost about 'your' car as you keep using the actual name of the car when referring to it. You don't a picture of my car, you put a picture of my Extreme 302. So you obviously think you are better then everyone else by bosting about it.

Either prove that you own this car or GTFO lol.
