Have just spotted the calibration discussion.
I probably won't get a chance to test the patch today (though the text isn't clear about whether the manual calib stuff ended up in the patch anyway).

However, my thoughts FWIW: I do use the calibration system. It's a little flakey, yes, and it's a real ARGH moment every time you fire up LFS with the wheel unplugged, but it can be useful. The reason I really use it at present is because my G27 pedals are misbehaving quite often, and now and then I need to move a pedal min/max point to reduce the impact.
I guess there are probably other ways to achieve this though?

(Btw, I have looked a few times and can't seem to find replacement pots. Contact cleaner helped for a while...)

Yay!! That list screen just became useful again Smile

One thing to be careful of, if you start watching the temp.mpr a lot - if you are still viewing it when the race restarts, LFS can't rename it, which becomes a problem if you are using autosave. I can't remember exactly what happens to the replay from the next race (cos I avoid making that mistake now Wink)
Massive^H^H^H^H^H^H^H Tiny bug in forum notification code

I just found a bizarre but potentially not life-threatening bug in the code that warns you when a subscribed forum is updated Smile

It turns out that for multipart email messages, the email client I use on my phone displays the first few words of the text part in the folder list, but the HTML part when I actually open the message.

So this is how I realised that the text part of a "Daily forum update" email says "There is one new thread in the forum...", but the HTML part is more accurate and instead says "There is one new or updated thread in the forum" (my emphasis).
Slightly surprising that the code uses different basic text for the two parts of the message, no?

I have wondered several times after opening these messages on my phone about how I had misread the text fragment and imagined that there was a new thread in the Patch TEST forum (always exciting! Smile), when in fact it was just an updated one, but for ages I hadn't noticed the actual cause. Turns out I can read after all Big grin

I probably won't have a breakdown if this isn't fixed by tomorrow.

Aha, cool, thanks!
The HTML5 version doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere in the forum, but I'm delighted it's being worked on. (Quick glance at the commit stats gives me the impression that it only got created a few weeks ago.)
non-Flash version of LFS Remote?

Am living a Flash-free life on my newly-reinstalled OS for the last few weeks, and I'm doing a pretty good job of managing without it - most websites work fine.

Since Flash is a security disaster and is also slowly dying, maybe it would be possible to get a non-Flash version of Remote?

OK, but then is it clear what LFS will/should do if a car is in more than one of them?

LOL! OK guys, who hacked Scawen's forum account? Razz
(But yeah, I know the feeling. Last night I was re-reading some code that I only wrote last May, and I barely recognised any of it...)

I will venture a guess that this particular object-placement issue will now be fixed Big grin

I'm all in favour of the change, though it remains to be seen just how much it'll help. Latency won't change, clearly, but yeah it ought to make a single lost packet less of a big deal...

I did and do still love Airio - not sure anything else out there can do what it does. However it has indeed been dying gradually for a while, and I've more or less abandoned my original hope that EQ Worry would release the source (or resume maintenance). (In contrast, Aonio, which I also loved, does at least now have a mostly-better rival in the shape of LFSLazy.)

Having said that, I would agree that while we shouldn't be forever bound to preserve backward compatibility, we should only make this change for a good reason.

The other concern I have: LFS is not exactly on the crest of a wave of popularity right now. Break some important-but-unmaintained codes and there may not be the hoped-for flurry of activity to fix the situation...

OK, thanks very much for the suggestions, both of you. The file-associations thing had indeed been one of my concerns - didn't know there was a separate tool to sort that out.

The old installation doesn't have specific problems, so I probably will just go back to it. It's just really really full of cruft, and settings which I changed years ago while experimenting and then forgot to change back (god only knows which ones).
Now and then I've purged parts of it, manually - e.g. firstly reminding myself which directories full of skin images are safe to empty and then doing that...

(Actually it might be nice if LFS just had a button for purging third-party skins that haven't been accessed for N months? And maybe MPR/SPR files too Smile)

OK... wow. Maybe it isn't such a trivially easy request after all.
I felt embarrassed even posting this question, despite having searched the forums beforehand (expecting to be flamed with "read the FAQ!", cos it feels like it oughta be a FAQ...).

I guess I will just keep using guesswork :-/

Ooo, lots of nice possibilities opening up with these tweaks. (And even the basic stuff like not having newbie players autospecced a bunch of times without explanation has real value.)

Quote from Scawen :Yes, I have AI parking on my list.

Umm, please forgive me for hoping it's very very very far down the list Wink

Quote from eX-Driv3r :So i have a question Scaven, will S3 get some new vehicles / tracks in the future, by future i mean next 3 years...

Seriously, which part of "we cannot provide a guarantee that it will be released" do you not understand?

Oddly, there seems to me to have been a marked drop in racing since roughly Christmas. Can't think of a good reason for this, and of course I may be wrong. It seemed relatively good near Christmas and now it's all but dead. (The LFSW stats don't show anything noticeable but I guess they're totally dominated by cruisers.)
Copying over some LFS config files to new clean installation - but which files?

Howdy.
Have just upgraded OS and am currently torn between simply dragging over my old installation or going with a new clean one and pulling in all the important files.
New clean one sounds good, but it's not immediately clear to me which files to carry over...
Didn't find anything in the forum or wiki - did I miss something obvious?

Basically, it's easy to work out how to carry over old scripts, .SETs and .CVWs, but quite a lot of the rest is a bit more ambiguous.

What's usr.bin? And views.bin?
Help/pointers would be much appreciated folks...

Quote from Flame CZE :Thanks to the new 'input when window is inactive' feature, only in LFS can you now control up to 40 cars at once! 40 for the price of 1! And that's worth it! Na-na

I tried 9 and it was getting quite laggy at times, but it works Big grin

Awesome! That is precisely the purpose of this change Big grin

Quote from pik_d :I think you mean analog stick, not a joystick.

Gosh, teensy bit pedantic? And actually, as far as I'm concerned, the "stick" in "analog stick" is just short for joystick anyway Tongue
