Quote from Mazz4200 :Erm, just found this screenshot

http://www.drivingitalia.net/f ... mp;type=post&id=15350

dunno if you'd call it too bright ??

but, just look at the detailing. !!! (esp. the grass\dirt on the tyres.)

i agree, details are very good, the cockpits are spectacular and make lfs in car views look plain dull.

my only concern is that lfs runs very nicely on my "middle range pc" where as all the details within NetKar may kill the performance of my machine.

bring on the demo!!

NetKar Pro [v1.3 released]
mrfell

I was reading a thread earlier this morning about any latest info regarding patches / upgrades etc and Tristan mentioned NetKar Pro was due to be released soonish...

Anyone else looking forward to trying out this sim?

From what i can gather NetKar should be a good benchmark for the LFS Devs to be working towards (or have even passed with their latest patch/upgrade).

Any thoughts?

Quote from danowat :This post is intended for those who, for whatever reason, still use an alternative control method to a wheel, those who already have a wheel will know where I am coming from anyway .
Here is the story, I have been playing race sims since I was in single figures, I think my first ever race "sim" was Chequered flag on the Spectrum 48K, I have played pretty much every racing sim since then, and love them all, a sim addict if you like.
I have always used either keyboard/joystick in the "early" days due to there being little else, or since the PS1 days, a dual analog pad, and I have always been reasonably happy with it, untill now.
In LFS I have always been a fair to middling driver, coming in halfway in the grid for most races never really in contention for the top spot.
A little under 2 weeks ago I was racing and practicing for the 2nd round of the ESL ERCC, racing an FXO and FE Gold, and I was struggling, I couldn't get a decent time or stay consistant as tyres were a problem, now I know racing thoery, I have raced IRL and was getting fed up with struggling, then comes the time to start practicing for the 3rd round, at SO Long REV, evil track, now I was getting REALLY frustrated, no matter what I could'nt get in the groove for this track, I was driving the breast's off the car but only managing a 1:57 and shreading the tyres in a matter of laps, then I cast my mind back to Fordman telling me to get a wheel, could it really make that much difference?.
Friday morning comes, sod it, I am getting a wheel, so a morning searching for the best price gets me a DFP for £65, had I done the right thing?.
The wheel comes, I set it up, start racing and then it hits me, arse, I am slower than before, and this FFB is a BIG dissapointment, I was getting more and more frustrated, but I told myself I would not go back to the pad, no way.
After many nights frustration I posted here about FFB, mainly in understeer conditions in FWD cars, got some feedback about setting the wheel up, which I followed, and after another try it was coming, every lap was getting better, I was finally surpassing my pad times and getting quicker.
Over the last 2 nights I have achieved a number of things in LFS that I never thought I could, firstly coming 1st in a 10 lap race with a grid of 20, I NEVER would have managed that with a pad, and I got a 1:53 on SO Long REV in the FXO, again another hurdle I never thought I'd get over, I can see 1:52 now aswell .
So why the long post about something most people know already you may ask?, well, I think that there are probably many people out there not getting the full potential out of LFS because they think there alternative control method is "good enough", its not, trust me, get a wheel, not only will your enjoyment increase, but you will become a LOT more competitive, for the sake of £65, its a no brainer to me.
Also, I should thank the people in the community that helped, to all those who suggested some nice settings in the thread I made about FFB and not just shouting me down, Fordman who originally said I should get one, and Sparkydave who has been a bit like a mentor over the last couple of weeks .

Dan,

Glad you've seen the light!

o/t Jeez how old do i feel talking about chequered flag. When i was a nipper, my dad made me a steerling wheel for chequered flag, because we couldn't get on with the quickshot 1 joystick we had. There was 2 steering speeds, slow turn and fast turn. No analogue in those days!!! We also had a table of average speeds from Brands Hatch, so we could compare to real drivers............oh the good ol days.

Enough of the waffle!

What you should ask is who is quickest over a lap. And then you go to LFSW. And THEN you can watch the replays and see what speeds the aliens gets at this point.

Well NO not really, as that would be another thread!

The purpose of this meaningless thread is a simple question of how fast your setup gets you down the straight and around the corner in control.

Meaningless.....maybe, but so what!

how fast can you go down blackwood straight AND still make the corner?

sounds possible, i'll try it!

Quote from the_angry_angel :I have a theory, but I dont know how accurate it is.

As I understand it, the FE tracks are close to their object limit (this includes all parts of the track, as well as user place-able objects). It could be on lower spec machines that this, combined with the extra culling required, having to do the extra physics calculations, and driving line calculations for the next lap is too much for the system to take.

To be honest, I've never really noticed...

what do you call lower spec machine, i'm running athlon 3000xp 512mb ram and fx5900 128mb graphic card

Fern Bay Stutter!!
mrfell
S3 licensed
Last night was practicing offline on the longest Fern Bay configuration and came across a stuttering effect everytime the AI crossed the start / finish line!

It happens very quickly but is enough to throw you slighly off line when cornering. As far as i'm aware it only happens on the Fern Bay tracks.

Has anyone else experienced this?

If someone were willing (and I just know they would) to obsess about reproducing an accurate representation of a real track, why prevent? First on my list would definitely be the Monaco GP track. Street circuit = no licence to pay, surely, and would be a good test of feasibility. LONG term, of course.

Is that true?

Paddy goes in to a bar and orders 3 pints.
The bar man pulls his pints and Paddy goes and sits in the corner and drinks them.
When finished, Paddy goes back to the bar and orders another 3 pints.
The bar man does but is a bit confused by it all and says "why don't you just have one at a time, then they will be fresh and cold."
"Ah" Paddy says "you don't understand, I have 2 brothers, 1 in america and 1 in australia and we made a promise that if we were out having a drink we would order 1 drink for each of us, so that makes 3 drinks!"
"I understand" says the bar man "that makes sense!"
This continues for many weeks till one day Paddy comes in and only orders 2 pints.
The bar man, being a quick thinker, steps up and says "My condolenses Paddy, something must have happened to one of your brothers"
"Nah" says Paddy "I've given up the booze!!"

Quote from xaotik :I seem to remember that, when running the stock creative labs drivers, if you run dxdiag and go to the sound tab of your EAX-enabled device and set the "hardware sound acceleration" slider under "directX features" to "standard" instead of "full" then EAX is disabled. Not sure what else is disabled in the process though.

Many thanks XAOTIK, I have the same problem so will try this later.
GT Legends Demo - False Starts

Before every one jumps on the band wagon and slags this game off, let me just have my 5mins of fame..

I've read over the months how TOCA3, rFactor and the like do not match the driving experience of LFS (and I would agree). However I have recently downloaded the TOCA3 and GT Legends demos as I had a few spare megs of download to use up.

TOCA didn't impress me at all, nor did the driving experience of GTL

BUT

One thing did in GTL and that was the ability of a false start!!!

EG you cant sit at the start line in gear, clutch out and flat out on the gas pedal waiting for the light to go green!

Something which has always taken a bit away from the driving experience in LFS.

Does anyone know if the devs are looking to create this, or is it widely agreed that they are not needed?

Thanks!!

EDIT!!!

The reason i posted this was because the search facility didn't find anything or didn't work properly, now i've found a couple of posts already ELSEWHERE!!!
