Quote from danowat :Not sure if this has been mentioned, and I dont remember the current FOX having this, but it looks like a tip of the hat to NKpro to me

i'm no nkp fan boy but it is kind of a coincidence.......

i've been playing nkp for a couple of days (still demo) and really enjoying it, so last night went back to lfs.

to my amazement nkp has made me a tidier and smoother driver in lfs.
i have also adopted the ff1600 gear change (lift off and change) instead of flat shifting. it sounds and feels much better.

just my couple of observations!!
whoa.....so many people on line!!!!

Quote from NotAnIllusion :I think it's been done earlier on when kidcodea and myself were posting about how all the cars and tracks are accessible for demo users thru replays with no hacks, cracks or workarounds. Didn't send any mails myself though. Maybe I should

did you manage any other cars?

edit

as I havent found any replays in the bigger cars

Quote from Matrixi :I don't think you can. IIRC, kunos had been saying that you can't get a camera view like what the driver is seeing from his eyes because it's not possible in real life. Taking "realism" a bit too far imo.

*edit* 300th post \o/

PITY, i'd downloaded someones replay and was hoping to see speed and gears for cornering etc!!!

Quote from colcob :Well, when you are actually in a constant radius turn at any speed, you are always turning the handlebars in the direction you are turning.
Countersteering is used to impart roll velocity to the bike one way or another.

So at low speed, the gyro forces are so low, that you really dont need to countersteer to roll the bike over, your body weight will do it. At high speed, you need to countersteer to roll the bike over, but once in the turn, you'll still be steering the direction you're going.

However, another caveat. If you get on that superbike, get it rolling at 5 mph, and sit bolt upright and dont move your body at all, if you steer left, the bike will tip right, and you'll immediately have to start steering right to catch the bike.

The physics behind countersteering are actually pretty straighforward and well understood (despite what that bloke on the no-bs bike page says).

A bike tyre, the same as a car tyre, generates a lateral force when it has slip angle. So if you're going along in a straight line and you turn the bars left, the front tyre will generate a leftward force, AT GROUND LEVEL.

But the centre of gravity of the bike and rider is waaaay above ground level, so this force actually generated a rotation force, but a leftward force below the cog causes the bike and rider to rotate rightwards, tipping the bike into a right hand turn.

At this point, if you just kept the bars pointing slightly left, the front wheel will carry on creating a leftward force, you'll keep tipping right, and in about 0.3 secs be skidding along the black stuff on your pants. So as the bike starts to tip over, you instinctively start to steer right (caster helps I think), which starts to generate a rightwards force, which wants to tip you leftwards, thus slowing down your rightwards tip.

And then you reach a point of equilibrium where rotation force caused by the lateral force from the tyres balances with the rotation force created by your cog being off centre, and you carve a nice turn.

But you can see from that that the further off centre your COG is, the more lateral G you can pull in a turn of a given radius, hence hanging off the bike.

(NB: I've never ridden a motorcycle, I'm just a theorist, so If anyone wants to disgree based on practical experience, I'm all ears.)

you could probably win the moto gp with that knowledge

Quote from tristancliffe :I had a ZZR250, an Aprilia RS50, a Yamaha FS1E, and nearly bought a CBR600 (not in that order) before cars took predicence But I really really want a VFR400 NC30

Not a bike i would want but would love to have a go!

I find CBR600's a bit blah now. Very good bikes but honda has killed it imo.
Same as the fireblade the orignal was the one to have, bad boy styling and handling to match, now its too refined.

Still any bike is better than not having one!!!

Quote from Madman_CZ :i cannot wait for the demo, i told myself that i wont buy any sims and be loyal to lfs but with netkar looking so damn good i may not be able to resist. I am even considering gtr2 tho it will really need to impress me a lot...

just 3 days to go... hope we get the demo on monday too.....

So to all that are itching to have a go at NK, what happens if the new patch comes at the same time......
What will you do first!!!!!

Quote from AndroidXP :Heh, I'd release after nKPro. Give them their week of fame and then crush them with the new and much better tyres, which even make GPL fanboys come back once again

I've just been on the RSC site for NK and found a link to compare sims.
I never realised that part of the tyre physics "now" appear to be better in LFS than NK when its released.
Especially the number of segments the tyre is divided into.
So when we get our update..............

Just a thought...

If you were the LFS devs, would you release the latest patch before NKPro went out, or wait for the hype to die down?

Or perhaps they know they've got a loyal fan base and don't care!!!!

Quote from Mazz4200 :Erm, just found this screenshot

http://www.drivingitalia.net/f ... mp;type=post&id=15350

dunno if you'd call it too bright ??

but, just look at the detailing. !!! (esp. the grass\dirt on the tyres.)

i agree, details are very good, the cockpits are spectacular and make lfs in car views look plain dull.

my only concern is that lfs runs very nicely on my "middle range pc" where as all the details within NetKar may kill the performance of my machine.

bring on the demo!!

NetKar Pro [v1.3 released]

I was reading a thread earlier this morning about any latest info regarding patches / upgrades etc and Tristan mentioned NetKar Pro was due to be released soonish...

Anyone else looking forward to trying out this sim?

From what i can gather NetKar should be a good benchmark for the LFS Devs to be working towards (or have even passed with their latest patch/upgrade).

Any thoughts?

Quote from danowat :This post is intended for those who, for whatever reason, still use an alternative control method to a wheel, those who already have a wheel will know where I am coming from anyway .
Here is the story, I have been playing race sims since I was in single figures, I think my first ever race "sim" was Chequered flag on the Spectrum 48K, I have played pretty much every racing sim since then, and love them all, a sim addict if you like.
I have always used either keyboard/joystick in the "early" days due to there being little else, or since the PS1 days, a dual analog pad, and I have always been reasonably happy with it, untill now.
In LFS I have always been a fair to middling driver, coming in halfway in the grid for most races never really in contention for the top spot.
A little under 2 weeks ago I was racing and practicing for the 2nd round of the ESL ERCC, racing an FXO and FE Gold, and I was struggling, I couldn't get a decent time or stay consistant as tyres were a problem, now I know racing thoery, I have raced IRL and was getting fed up with struggling, then comes the time to start practicing for the 3rd round, at SO Long REV, evil track, now I was getting REALLY frustrated, no matter what I could'nt get in the groove for this track, I was driving the breast's off the car but only managing a 1:57 and shreading the tyres in a matter of laps, then I cast my mind back to Fordman telling me to get a wheel, could it really make that much difference?.
Friday morning comes, sod it, I am getting a wheel, so a morning searching for the best price gets me a DFP for £65, had I done the right thing?.
The wheel comes, I set it up, start racing and then it hits me, arse, I am slower than before, and this FFB is a BIG dissapointment, I was getting more and more frustrated, but I told myself I would not go back to the pad, no way.
After many nights frustration I posted here about FFB, mainly in understeer conditions in FWD cars, got some feedback about setting the wheel up, which I followed, and after another try it was coming, every lap was getting better, I was finally surpassing my pad times and getting quicker.
Over the last 2 nights I have achieved a number of things in LFS that I never thought I could, firstly coming 1st in a 10 lap race with a grid of 20, I NEVER would have managed that with a pad, and I got a 1:53 on SO Long REV in the FXO, again another hurdle I never thought I'd get over, I can see 1:52 now aswell .
So why the long post about something most people know already you may ask?, well, I think that there are probably many people out there not getting the full potential out of LFS because they think there alternative control method is "good enough", its not, trust me, get a wheel, not only will your enjoyment increase, but you will become a LOT more competitive, for the sake of £65, its a no brainer to me.
Also, I should thank the people in the community that helped, to all those who suggested some nice settings in the thread I made about FFB and not just shouting me down, Fordman who originally said I should get one, and Sparkydave who has been a bit like a mentor over the last couple of weeks .

Dan,

Glad you've seen the light!

o/t Jeez how old do i feel talking about chequered flag. When i was a nipper, my dad made me a steerling wheel for chequered flag, because we couldn't get on with the quickshot 1 joystick we had. There was 2 steering speeds, slow turn and fast turn. No analogue in those days!!! We also had a table of average speeds from Brands Hatch, so we could compare to real drivers............oh the good ol days.

Enough of the waffle!
