Quote from Keling :Oops...

Don't really think it's an "Oops" at all. They'll gain more customers on Steam than they lose through people who don't use it.

Personally I've used Steam since it's initial release all those years ago, now it's the only gaming platform I use for PC. And yes, up until 5-6 years ago I considered ditching it because it wasn't that good, but now there's really nothing better. Sure it has DRM, but it's non-intrusive, I never notice it. It's the best of a world where DRM won't go away - get used to it.

Also, Steam sales > any other sales.

O/T - Must buy for me.... Just need a new graphics card first!

I've been looking at wheels for about a month now and decided that my G25 should be replaced by a Forza CSR wheel with the G25 pedal adapter (I'll get CSR pedals at a later date).

My G25's FFB 'deadzone' has reached about 40 degrees which is becoming un-drivable, and the shifter is completely knackered. Not bad considering I got it in the very first batch of G25s all those years ago and it's had constant use/abuse ever since!

I didn't want a G27 because it's too similar to my G25, I'd rather something completely different for the money I'm spending.

I didn't want the T500 because I've had Thrustmaster wheels in the past and they were to put it bluntly, shite! One broke within 3 weeks of getting it, the warranty replacement lasted little over 2 months - and this was their fairly expensive at the time Ferrari wheel.

I've looked at pretty much every review there is online for wheels and the CSR seems to be the best one out there in the £200 price range, the biggest plus points for me is the belt drive and the buttons on the wheel, plus the fact I don't get pedals with it when I have a perfect condition set of G25 pedals to use.

I have seen worrying messages about their customer service, but have read elsewhere if you document problems well (with video and pics) and supply as much information as possible then they're pretty good.

Now I just have to wait until it arrives!

Just in case anybody in North East England (Newcastle area) is looking here:

DO NOT go out! Just took me 1 hour 20 minutes to do 6.5 miles from work to home. The roads are sheet ice in most places, the main routes are gridlocked, and the gritters aren't gritting!

I add to the Focus vote.

I have a 2003 (03 plate) 1.6l LX Focus, just hit 76,000 and only thing that's gone wrong in my 5 years of having it was an exhaust manifold and the speed sensor.

Next year my girlfriend will be getting my Focus and I shall be replacing it with a slightly newer Focus.

People give Ford a hard time, and I have no idea why - my dad had many Mondeos from early 90s to mid 00s as company cars, all of them over 100,000 miles over 3 years and none of them ever had a major problem that I can remember.

Have to say, I absolutely love the Clios! Had some great races in them, including one race starting 26th and ending up 3rd with fastest lap. I usually qualify in the top 4, so sometimes as a challenge I skip quali and start at the back.

Quote from The Very End :Ah thanks for the advivce mate, now I won't have to suicide run in the town to find some cool stuff

By the way, how much have you people played this mod / game so far?

F'king ages!

My character is onto day 8, my longest surviving character so far. Currently right at the north edge of the map with a friend, been through NE airfield and he found an AK with loads of ammo, debating NW airfield, or just going into the towns near it. All I have is MP5SD with 1 mag and a revolver with 1 mag. Plenty food and stuff though.

1.7.2.1 is better - loads first time for me. I didn't respawn at the beach like the experimental patch thread said I would, so still had all my equipment - was actually at the point I was at 1.7.1.5, not the 1.7.2 location I ended up at. :\

Yeah the zombies can see you from much further away. 1.7.2 does have a lot of problems with server connections and de-sync from the main server too. I was playing with a couple of friends, went from Elektro to somewhere north via all the small towns getting supplies, had some decent stuff (AK + ammo, many tins of beans, binos etc), disconnected, came back to it a few hours later and I was back to where I was before the previous session. About an hour of supply gathering gone Back to my enfield with 3 bullets left in it.

Just downloaded the hotfix (1.7.2.1) which is experimental, makes you start again from the beach, but at the point I'm at it'll take me 20 minutes to get back to having what I had after the loss of equipment. But hopefully it allows easier connections to servers and fixes the de-sync issues. Will report back later.

Suppose my advice would be stick with 1.7.1.5 for now until the 1.7.2 issues are fixed.

Tip: if being chased by zombies, find a red brick building - most of them have 2 doors linked by a straight corridor. Just run through the building and turn as you get out of it so the zombies don't see you. As they can only walk in buildings you lose all that are chasing you. Worked for me earlier when I had 20 zombies up my arse.

Just spent 6 hours playing this after almost 2 weeks off... Died many times, but was a blast. A guy was camping on a roof in Cherno opposite the hospital and shot me, I had a friend with me so I came back, distracted him by running around his building and my friend picked him off as he was waiting for me to go under the ladder again. Got my stuff back (which he stole!) plus a few extras (AK74 + ammo).

Quick tip for you if you use the Steam version of ArmA 2: CO.

In game press shift-tab to bring up Steam UI thing.

Press Web Browser (near top right)

Browse to www.dayzmap.info

Now you have a full map that's easily viewable by pressing shift+tab, makes it easier especially when figuring out which buildings to check out.

Best way of finding out where you are is to use land features (coastline shape, roads and train tracks near the coast).

Changed mine to the $30 option from $25. Being a student having just finished a degree, even $1 is a stretch too far, but for Carmageddon, it's worth it!

DiRT3 is great fun with the G25 - it's a good mix between arcade and sim, looks amazing too! Running G25 at 400 degrees.

There's a few mods out there allowing any car on any track and another that reduces grip by your own specified amount - I personally use that mod with a 15% grip reduction - makes it feel much better.

Quote from hyntty :Incidentally, I know there are many people including me interested in android development. Code examples of of working things would be greatly appreciated if anyone could spare a few lines

I'll share my code after university assessment (mid-April) to anybody who requests it, I'm not a great programmer so it wouldn't be a great example, but if it helps anybody then I don't mind. I may stick it onto the Google Code site. Hopefully I'll learn a few things too if anybody has any improvements!

I can't spend much time on it which is why it's slapped together at the minute as I'm in my final year at uni and I've got so much to juggle so can't spend as much time on this as I like.

My plan is to re-write it after I finish uni in June into something much more usable for everyone. For the server at the minute I'm just using the debugger in NetBeans for example and the buttons are just raw buttons from the Eclipse GUI designer. Right now everything is written for functionality rather than performance, looks and usability. Will also look into adding insim/outgauge stuff too, but right now I have no time to even begin to figure out how to do it.

All working with Amp88's delay idea - moved the robot.delay() between the keypress and keyrelease methods and now works perfectly!

So is the problem that the code is executing before the game has a chance to react?

Once again thanks for the help, will give it a go on Wednesday. (Tuesdays are a very long day at uni so usually can't be arsed to program after that!)

Android/Java help

I'm creating an Android app for a university project and I'm having some troubles with it.

Basically the app is a button box (going to add outgauge stuff if I can get basic button box working first), I want it to run for all sims (LFS, rF2, RACE07 etc.) so far I've been using a PC listener/server which takes the messages from the phone and puts them onto a keyboard key. This works in notepad and all windows applications but not in any of the above mentioned games.

It's all programmed in Java (only language I know well enough to do this).

I'm guessing (after much Googling) it's some form of protection to stop macro cheating - is there any way around this? So far the only solution I've come up with is to program the PC listener in C# and use DirectInput, but looking at tutorials to do it I'm completely baffled and don't want to waste time going into it if it doesn't work.

This is the switch statement I have in the listener which works in things like Notepad, web browser etc:

Robot keyPress = new Robot();
if(Pattern.matches("[a-zA-Z]+", message)) {

switch (message){
case "ignition":
//MessageToLocalComputer("/press i");
keyPress.keyPress(KeyEvent.VK_I);
keyPress.keyRelease(KeyEvent.VK_I);

break;
...

I am aware there are better and cleaner ways of doing this, I'm just after something that works for a project demo.

Would have come tonight but had a spontaneous football watching night with a few mates.

Tomorrow is the same too - more important match tomorrow evening. Thursday though I should be free if you have time to set another one up. Smile

In RS Centre options on first start up (should be accessible elsewhere too from the top menu bar) it should be selectable there.

Not on computer with RBR on it so can't check exactly where for you. If you're still struggling to find it I'll be on it tomorrow.
