Live For Speed doesn't support alt-tabbing, instead use shift + F4 to go into windowed.

Could be your firewall is blocking packets, maybe open the (tcp&udp) you've chosen for lfs.

Have you tried looking at network info in lfs (shift + F8)?

You could try some dSRC servers as there are usually one or more admins online, donut people get kicked or forced to spectate.
