Quote from DevilDare :Or tell her "I wish you were single"... Even if its in a jokey way...

I'm sure you wouldnt like if a good old friend of your girlfriend started hinting on her....

That's not forcing, that's wishful thinking. And it got a good response. A couple of friends of my girlfriend have been hinting at how much they fancy her and want her, but they've only succeeded in making themselves look like dicks.

Quote from DevilDare :Wait a second....

Thats kind of a "dick" thing to do IMO. The least you could do is wait until they break up themselves... Dont force it...

/awaits flame attack

Read it again, there was no forcing.

A provocative burning, carried out by a small sect, which the BBC and other mainstream media did not obsess over.....

Quote from ATiRAGEPRO :There are Auditoriums in schools, also. who cares?

That's like saying that because a house has a bathroom, the entire house is one big bathroom.

It could be to a point. My issue is with the description used by a few of the mainstream media outlets (BBC etc) who don't think twice about not mentioning the mosque, when it is the aspect which has caused the most controversy.

With Obama and other political leaders so quick to condemn the Christian burning a book, where are their condemnations of Islamists burning flags? Both are a symbol of nations or peoples.

Quote from der butz :2: The musqe would have been build NEAR ground zero. Noone will be dancing around on the ruins with a turban.

Yes it won't be right by Ground Zero. But it will be only 2 blocks away, in a building that was hit by some of the planes undercarriages, in an area that was covered with debris - both structural and human. The whole area should be considered a grave site to the hundreds of people whose bodies were never recovered, having been totally destroyed in the attacks.

The imam who wants to build the mosque, told CNN in an interview:

If we move from that location, the story will be the radicals have taken over the discourse. The headlines in the Muslim world will be that Islam is under attack… Our national security now hinges on how we negotiate this, how we speak about it."

Now that's a thinly veiled 'or else' threat if I ever heard one.

Quote from TehPaws3D :But these are just some people (Who will use New York resources; Make them money) Who want to pray, Whats so bad about building a place there

It's not like it's the only Mosque in the vicinity. There are plenty of others slightly further away (still within walking distance) they could use.

What if Christians wanted to turn an important building in Afghanistan into a parish centre? I don't think that'd go down too well. And it would be even less tolerated in Iran or Pakistan. The more we pander to them, the more they see the West as weak and willing to cave.

Quote from evilpimp :
And Mookie, I don't agree that trying to build a mosque close to Ground Zero is of the same level of provocation and hatred as burning a book concidered holy by many. It shouldn't cause an uproar, they ask to build, they get rejected, end of story. Why does it have to be a big deal...?

They haven't been rejected. Au contraire. What it sends out to the Islamist militants in the middle east, and the rest of the world, is "we destroyed the symbol of the West, now we build on it"

If that's not provocation I don't know what is. It's an attack on US sensitivities, and the reporting of it in the media which is seemingly sympathetic to the cause (BBC being a major contributing factor), has been dire.

Quote from J@tko :Pakistanis burn American Flags all the time. Whats the difference? Both the Koran and a flag represent large numbers of people who clearly don't particuarly like each other...

True that.

Also, why all the uproar over the Christians in a small town burning a Koran, when there should be far more of an uproar (instead of pandering and fawning in the name of tolerance) at the plans by a big Muslim organisation with extremist links to build a huge mosque in very close proximity to Ground Zero? That, if anything, is an act of defiance and provocation.
