My guess would be, test patch in spring of 2011 (april or may) and 2 months of public testing.

Considering Scawen hasn't reported anything about carcass development, I take that as it itsn't finished yet. After 20th of December, I expect Scawen to stop working and be with his family 'till new year. And if carcass isn't finished, it means the VW stability control, suspension updates and limited setup system aren't finished either and knowing the development history I'd say they'll require quite a time.

Unless Scawen silently finished most of that and is preparing a test patch for us to test in christmas while he is relaxing.

Quote from rceX :Not possible in 3 weeks. I think there will be decent public testing period before real release.

It doesn't matter, at least we get to play it

Theres a small chance that we might see a test patch this year, if not, I'm 100% sure we'll see a patch next year. I mean, there's not much left to do.

And are we going ever to get the annuncement of S3 car anytime? Scirocco was annnunced end of 2008, Rockingham end of 2009, S3 car end of 2010?

I don't know. I think Scawen said something about that in one his posts, unless I read it wrong (and I apologize if I did).

Quote from tsichles :as a software developer and at about the age of 40, things get worse under presure.

Lfs developer(s) have done the mistake of creating a buy and not rent license for their product.

I believe there is a decission they should take on this. Individuality costs.

Also isn't anyone thinking that lfs earning are not enough for Scawen to survive with full family ?

Sorry for my bad english, have a nice day and good/plenty luck for the developers.

Licence "renting" is retarded and I refuse to pay such shit.

Also, Scawen has a real job apart from LFS.

I trust Scawen's words when he says that he doesn't report because there's nothing to report (wip).

But what about Eric?

Quote from MrEko :How much time could it take to write a few lines every week or so? Just to keep us on track

He said he doesn't want to make reports weekly and I understand him. If I were developing the physics I wouldn't want to say "This week I'm working on XXX" then next week say "The XXX idea turned out impossible" then next week "I'm still trying to figure how to do XXX", and so on. He said he only makes reports when theres something to report, so we can understand this two and half months of silence as:

a) Carcass Deformation turned very hard and still not finished.
b) Silently finished carcass defirmation and started on suspension/VW SC.

I think we all hope the second option is right.

Quote from Udris1992 :so yea I think LFS will die in next year if no major updates will be realesed

Please shut the **** up already with "LFS is dead/will die". It's getting really annoying. You're not helping to speed up the development, nor will change Scawen's mind to release a unfinished physics. I'm pretty sure we'll get updates this year or as soon as early next year, physics aren't developed forever.

Quote from Udris1992 :I am sure because no updates 2 years ? and maybe next year there will be some updates but this year I dont think so. because Scawen have lot of work on Physics

Lot of work on physics? Two months ago he said he feels they're coming close, but that was before said about the carcass deformation. Since then he hasn't reported anything, so you don't know how much work is left. He may well be polishing carcass deformation and doing last touches before giving it to their beta testing team.

Quote from Amynue :I hope that patch will be released for christmas and that would mean that we might have a......somewhere in November.

Go Scawen!

I would be happy with a test patch before this year ends and official patch release in early 2011 ().

That would be awesome christmas present.

You can't, those aren't released yet. Although there's track mods that have high res textures.

I think that Live for Speed, because of aborted development from Scawen, should go open source. That is the only bright potential for the game.

Quote from Amynue :I think they should put some progress report at the website, it's almost year since the "Tyre Physics Progress Report".
For someone who don't read forums it looks like they successful moved their servers to junkyard and closed the business
One progress report per year is not too much to ask, is it?

Few days ago I was passing a women going wrong way around the roundabout so I know what you mean :biggrinfl

The perfect time to annunce the unnanunced S3 car. :shhh: *hint*

i think ill have to install itunes than usb share my 3g connection on the iphone to register it...

after ill just undo it

that is if they let me..

Even if you undo it, if the computer has a keylogger or is infected, you can well get your info stolen.

Damn, it's already been two months since last progress report, and it feels like yesterday to me Hopefully carcass study went well and he's polishing it.

I believe it's because Rockingham is S3 content, and S3 licence needs at least one TRACK and CAR, of which the car hasn't even been annunced yet (Scirocco is S1).

And no, devs haven't quit LFS. Scawen is finishing the physics and Eric is modeling. (or I hope so)

But that doesn't explain the lack of interior updates.

I somehow doubt that by just joining the server they can get your account info, that would be a serious exploit and therefore I'm sure we would (or will) get a patch that fixes it.

Quote from justasimfan :People i played lfs from time to time for years on my brother sim rig.I made the demo account so i can post here. The core of lfs is incredible. We would not be here if it wasn't.But the game has started to show its age and many people that see it they dismiss it before even giving it a chance and discover how amazing game it is.With the above high quality cars lfs can have a new breath of life for literary nothing.....

And for people that are afraid about perfomance have in mind that GT5 "Premium cars" are made by around 300-350.000 polygons each and the game can run with a grid of 16 cars at 60 frames .

Most 3d models from above have around 500.000-1.000.000 polygons but the huge difference from the ps3 is that on the pc you can adjust the graphics. On a decent computer you can easily play with a 16 or 32 car grid with 60-100 frames. On older computers reducing the quality of the cars will keep the game smooth as silk..

(Have in mind that the ps3 has 7 working cores of 3.2ghz each with only 256 kb cache memory each core,a 7800 gtx card with 256mb graphics memory and 256 of main system memory- With around $1000 you can find on ebay i7 gaming computers with 6gb of memory and a decent 285gtx card.)

A i7 by the way has 4 main cores of 2.66-3.33 with 3mb of cache each core and every i7 has 8-12 additional sub cores.Add to that 6 gb of memory and that a 285 gtx card is 6 times faster than a 7800gtx that means even with full quality you can play with 1920x1200 with max aa and af with a 32 car grid at over 60-100 frames easily

Have you ever tested them on any game engine? Not everyone has a i7 and GTX285, and I still very doubt that even 30% of players can run such thing at 32 grid over 60fps.

Do not understimate the PS3's power, it uses the GPU and 7 SPU from the Cell to render, and since everyone has the same hardware, they optimize it A LOT.

You can get the same quality of the car with 50k polys/tris.
kimd41
S3 licensed
Those model are no way EVER going to LFS (or any other game). Simple because it IMPOSSIBLE to handle those high poly models.

500k for LX6?
1million 500k for supra?

Our computers cant support 10 cars on screen with those models, let alone a full grid of 32 cars. Do you want us to play with 0.2fps? Those cars can't be used for games, only for rendering.

Sorry.

PS: They can be used in LFS in 2020 though.

Quote from Guthix :I find it sad that they announced the VWS two and a half year ago, and the last update on the homepage was in february, at least give us a update there. PLEASE! Scawen said like two or three weeks ago that a new patch would maybe be released, as he said "the new patch would maybe be released next week" (something like that, cant rly remember exact quote) and "next week" was about a week or two ago.. I feel like a update, besides if LFS wanna keep its big and loyale community, they would need to give us a update or something.

I don't remember such thing
