If you really only need it for uni, I'd go for something with a decent battery life (at my old uni there were very little seats with a power socket close enough). SSD helps for battery life there, or maybe just go for a eeePC.
The only thing that I tolerate is: "Not now, I'm driving.", though I usually just let it ring or just hang up.
Hands free seems fine with me, doesn't really require more attention than the chat with your co-driver.

Actually I'm not a tiny bit surprised by that. Since YouTube is owned by Google, they might just give their browser preferred treatment. I wonder if you get a performance boost in FF if you set your browser signature to Chrome's
Plugins, like AdBlock; and it's quite a lot safer than IE6 (does IE still run JavaScripts in images?)
