The argument that Rift is a bad idea because it doesn't make people faster completely misses the point. My H shifter and clutch probably slow me down, but realism and immersion is much better.
I'm not trying to be unrealistically fast, I'm trying to enjoy an accurate simulation of motor sport.
There seems to be a common delusion that most users of LFS pump dozens of hours each week into competitive online racing. Looking at the number of online racers, it quite clear that this is not the case.
The fact is that the majority of users don't play online. I'd bet also that they'd prefer realism over being competitive. Why wouldn't the devs cater for these people?
Don't forget that everyone has paid them the same amount of money regardless of how they choose to play, how often they play or whether they play online or not.

Picked up Spintires for 10 bucks. It's technically very impressive. Looks great and softy body physics and road deformation are high quality.
It's crying out for business elements to be integrated to it, so you can run your own logging transport or vehicle recovery business.
Well worth $10 anyway...

The AI isn't great, but not worse than anything else I've played.
Either way, I find things playable with the AI. Usually just give myself some extra fuel and some set-up penalties to make things more challenging.
Reckon a championship creator would be a relatively quick way of adding a lot of replay value for 'single player' players.
Single Player Championship?

I saw that Assetto Corsa now supports custom championships where you can create a folder structure and configuration files to make your own championship.
Personally, I'd love to see this implemented in LFS. I'm a big fan who only plays occasionally offline these days.
I'd like to know what the devs thoughts are, and if other single player LFSers (and I know there are lots of you out there) would like it.

I hadn't played AC for a long while, and I have to say version 1.0 is a massive improvement over previous versions in terms of graphics optimisation and physics. The first time I've really enjoyed driving it to be honest.

Hopefully they'll work on how the cars collide with the environment next, and get rid of the invisible walls on the hill climb.

Promising stuff though.

Quote from Flotch :I like watching replays, and while the camera is stationary pointing the car that is coming, the more beautiful the textures are, the best it is (eye candy speaking).

Me too. For me, good textures are for screenshots, movies and replays.

Not a good place to have a mechanical failure like that.

Quote from Wenom :I honestly think that the variety will make a difference even if one does not like 4WD, AWD, FWD or RWD in particular. It is always refreshing to see different kinds of cars in a racing simulator.

This.
Variety is the spice of life, and driving almost anything at the limit can be fun.

Quote from atledreier :Devs are still arrogant A-holes, no amount of steam is gonna change that. They actually seem to believe their car handling physics is realistic. I tried to tell them on several occations that cars don't have polygonal wheels, but they went on about how their physics engine is physically accurate and blah blah. And when I tried to tell them that while that might be true, real cars still have round wheels and don't bounce around, they gave me a lecture on physics which, while true, were completely irrelevant for the issue, non-round wheels..... So... cool crashing-sim, and I enjoy rock-climbing, but that's pretty much all it's good for.

Interestingly, Blackwood is being recreated in BeamNG (well, the AC conversion) and apparently with Scavier's blessings. So, I guess we'll have a chance to benchmark the physics.

While I don't necessarily disagree with you re the tyre physics, I haven't detected this level of arrogance with the devs. The guy who creates the vehicles (Gabester?) can be outspoken at times, but that's not always a bad thing. The other guys seem pretty friendly and responsive to the community. And don't forget BeamNG is relatively early in it's development...

Overall I'm a big fan of their work.

Quote from JSHuiting :This is just ridiculous.

I completely agree. Finding a reason to complain about finally getting new content? Just jaw dropping...

The devs should just roll their eyes and ignore.

Quote from Scawen : If we can get some S3 content ready before the tyre physics is finished, then it can be released, even without all the S3 things we would like to release eventually. So we'll see.

Fantastic to hear.
I'm really looking forward to the new tyres, but content would more than fill the void.
Hopefully 'content' means new tracks, cars and updates existing tracks and cars?

both your works look amazing, thanks

Quote from MousemanLV :Thank you for the progress report. Keep up the awesome work!

I concur.
Hands up who likes this turning of a new leaf, with more open and frequent communications?
It feels like the next era of LFS is finally beginning, which is a good thing.

Quote from sinbad :I think it will be a "it's not done, nor is it dead" report.

It really needs to say "we have <insert awesome content and physics stuff> coming and it will be coming this year".

Else, doomsday methinks.

Good (and somewhat relieving) to see some activity here. :-)
I'm hanging out for the progress report more than the patch to be honest. Anyone else?
Hopefully it will have at least indicative time frames on the content and physics updates.
