A new movie from me then. It runs at 0.5 and the intention is to show off LFS's physics.
As always, you won't find strange attempts at story or drama here, just movies of cars going passed, hopefully in an aesthetically pleasing manner and at a decent quality. The movie was made using Fraps to capture and Virtual Dub to edit and compile. Comments are welcome.

Quote from Intrepid :adding real tracks would only highlight the inaccuracies of the physics model, which are present in any sim. The fact LFS hasn't got any real tracks is probably why it has been enabled to be so strong and not have to come under graphical/design criticism and all that.

Agree with that and therefore vote for Eric to make his own 'like' tracks. That way you get the style of the world's great tracks, but without the armchair motor racing nerds wingeing about how inaccurate they are.

So having said that, a 6.2 KM circuit up the side of a mountain would do just fine, as would a 21km circuit through forests and around castles.

It's just a great big skating sandbox to go and skate in. It's brilliant, and SKATE2 will be just awesome if they improve the 'vert' (is that the right word? :shrug side of skating.

As much as I hate EA (most of the time), when they do innovative things with analogue controls (i.e. Fight Night/Skate), they do impress me.

Haven't played it online though. Sandbox games never work online...

Some frankly incredible wet weather tin top racing. Things really pick up a couple of minutes in.

Quote from traxxion :d6nn has already tried his hand on this one, here: http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=666976#post666976

The result made me curious to see what else there can be done with this image... It would be cool to have as a poster in my room

Thanks in advance!

I gave 2 a goes, though the pros could do it way better.
Good screenie too. High quality how it should be.

Hughesie

I find I'm a bit time poor so I generally log on in the evening say between 9-11pm AEDST, and generally only for an hour or 2. During the days I'm either at work, playing cricket, out with the missus or on the harbor.

If you planned a race for say a Thursday night, I'd go out of my way to make sure I'm available to race and come last.

Anyway, good luck and I hope it works out one way or another.

EDIT - I voted for LX6 and LX4 at south city chicane, but my first preference would be for LX6 and FZ5 at WE Intl.
Either way, odd combos FTW!

EDIT 2 - Ever think about getting a server hosted locally? Connections are sorted by ping, so if there's a sh1tty response time in Australia, your server is probably down the list a bit and won't get noticed.

Look again.
You do lose sight of it for a second when it is blocked by the airborne car. The airborne car passes over the top of it and it reappears just before it lands.

Quote from Gunn :At Bathurst, over the years, it was very common for the commentators to talk to the drivers during the action. They disrupted the flow of a driver's race many times. Sometimes drivers just ignore them and don't answer. Peter Brock used to talk to them almost every time, but that's how he was.

AFAIK the in-car commentaries were pioneered by Australia's Channel 7 in the 1970's, who also pioneered in-car camera technology now commonly used all around the world by networks covering motor racing.

Here are some examples:

He might even be capable of driving the RAC.

Quote from danowat :I really can't see the big issue.

Me either.
In fact there is no issue, because anyone who purchased S2 would have read the license agreement (posted above) which states that the game is gonna change. Why are people so shocked and surprised when it does?

+1. Loving this thread.
Is the FZ5 on the 'to do' list per chance?

Quote from squidhead : LOL...
this would look even better with this song that's on the radio nowadays, can't remember what's the song but the lyrics go like this
"I like to fly, so high, direction-sky"

Nothing beats 'Tick' by Ween. That song will be played at my funeral.
SO High

Quote from Mp3 Astra :This video was an exception. There hasn't been a chatlog that long before, and I doubt there will be one like that again! (then again I thought that last time we had a long one. It appears LFS'ers are very passionate!)

Vote 1 for keeping the chat log. I find them highly amusing, particularly when they turn nasty.

As for the length of the videos, for me it's perfectly fine. At the end of the day it's only a few minutes of my life that would only be wasted in some other nook or cranny of the internet otherwise.

Check that you're throttle & brake are on separate axis??

Not really, I've seen people able to carry more corner speed and glance the wall on exit. Sure, it's risky and you won't get away with it forever, but it doesn't necessarily slow you down at all.

I really hate it when you see someone flying up behind you at South City. As they get closer, you realise that they are smacking in to the wall every second corner with absolutely no consequences.
They fly by you, continuing to bang the armco while you continue to drive as hard as you can, but keeping it off the walls like a proper (sim) racer.

I'm not sure that a temp fix such as the OP suggested, would work. But I really, really hope that collision detection and car/engine damage are absolutely at the top of the dev's list right now.

It would make a HUGE change to the way LFS is played, and would make thinks like clutch heat seem like an insignificant little tweaks in comparison. Bring it bloody on !!

Fast, and nice passing at the end there.

Your AI seems to be about 3.5 seconds per lap slower than mine though. My AI ran a 20 lap race earlier today and the must have improved more than I thought. I didn't think there would be that much of a difference.
