Did iRacing Kill LFS?
No, it's not i-racing. It's a lack of any real updates in well over 1 year.
I'd also say that LFS is not dead, but it's slowly dying.
Unfortunately I don't think the Scirocco alone will save it either; it will need more new content than just a car. It will need new tracks, physics updates and improvements to the internal structure (rather than relying in community servers+insim apps).

I haven't lost all hope yet, but every day that nothing happens I lose a bit more. Sad, as this is my favourite bit of software ever.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :Gotta love the 100 square foot of water you could see, could likely be any of 1000 places in Sydney.

Well it's a bridge, so that should narrow it down for you.
Some lateral thinking and you'll have your answer.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :Sydney harbour bridge by any chance?

Um, no.

Quote from The Moose :...

I figured the state of Alaska would be a good starting point due to the N.America & FS9 clues. After 10 minutes of trawling though some small towns, I stumbled on Juneau. Pretty lucky because it's a big state!

I found this interesting. It's from an interview with Austin Meyer, the developer of Xplane which in many ways has similar design philosophies to LFS.

Quote :
Q: What are the key new features that will be introduced in v9 this year?

Austin: Sorry!
I only talk about new features 5 seconds AFTER they are released.
Why?
Simple: The moment i SAY that a new feature will exist, everyone builds it up in their mind as the most important thing EVER, and they imagine the PERFECT implementation of that feature... and they imagine it being ready NOW.
Then, no matter how quickly I release it, and how good a job I do with it, it is never QUITE good enough, soon enough, so the WORK i do results in COMPLAINTS, not sales.

So, I am perfectly happy to tell you what features are in X-Plane... 5 seconds AFTER they are released!

It's certainly not only LFS that is afflicted with this 'syndrome'.

Here we go.
These are pinched from another forum. (prepare for quadruple post)
Some of them might be a bit left field for this place, but what the heck.

Quote from Ripley :Watch out for its (sooner or later) upcoming sequel, Sow:BoB (Storm of War:Battle of Britain).

I haven't checked the IL2 forums for a while but last check there were constant complaints about the slow development of SOW. Sound familiar??
Some people in fact thought that development had been abandoned but that Oleg (the developer) was refusing to admit to it.

I hope it turns out though, because the IL2 games are easily the best combat flight sims I have played. A great community and a dedicated dev in for the long term.

The LFS of combat flight sims.

Quote from Stang70Fastback :their products are overpriced

Yep, and considering that the 'average' Mac user spends 95% of their computer time in an internet browser or applications like itunes, the 'I prefer OSX' argument has never really made sense to me.

I can't believe Apple have been getting away with charging these prices for so long.

Quote from Gunn :The setup flexibility allows us to also address shortcomings in the physics.

I'd guess that most people aren't intending to be physics testers while they're racing. I'd say leave that job to the devs and their testers rather than people who are racing each other.

Quote from Gunn :People who suck at racing will still suck at racing, no matter how uniform the setup options are.

The benefits are more about eliminating some of the more unrealistic setups from the road cars (and eliminating the need to use them) rather than helping sucky racers. Many people who suck at racing will still download the quick sets anyway.

I'd definitely like to see more restrictions on setups.
Anything to level the playing field and make things more like real life is a good thing IMO.
