Oh no, we're not closing this discussion just yet. I wanna give my 2 cents worth now.

Really, if you are that convinced the devs need extra funds, why don't you just donate something? You could do that quietly on your own, no need to involve others.

Regarding the subscription thing, I am utterly convinced that will never ever happen. Why am I convinced? I feel some kind of philosophical kinship, just doing LFS for many years, following its development, I just don't think its in the devs mind set. I am aware this may exist only in my imagination. But it feels right.

I also think you misinterpret some postings here, I don't see any lack of trust or faith towards the devs in the postings here. Some people would pay, others wouldn't. You'd expect that.

Lastly, I just don't think its appropriate to start a post speculating about their financial business model, or to call on others to provide voluntary financial support. It really is none of my business.

Maybe you are projecting your experience as a business owner?

The devs will let us know how they want things to be, when they feel it is time to do so. As indeed they have in the past.

I think you are a bit out of order.

Or... he got overwhelmed and intimidated by the obvious depth of knowledge in the responses and realises that the LFS community is not easily blinded by the shallow "glitz and glamour" canned effects of so-called polished commercial offerings.

Well karlth,

It looks like you just have to learn to like the LFS sound.

For me, it doesn't matter how "realistic" the sounds in other simulators are. I've learnt to look (hear?) past the "fantastically realistic" samples and have come to depend on the feedback I get from the LFS sound engine, even if it sounds a bit "raw" at times.

Some LFS cars sound better than others, this is probably due to how much time the LFS enthusiast (DaveWS (I think) who is responsible for the current sounds) has spent editing the sound engine for each car. In other words, there is probably scope for improvment. This is not to be taken as a critique of Daves work, I am thankful to Dave for his effort and think he did a great job.

You may be able to use your PCs sound card settings applet to improve LFS sound. But, "realistically", you are better off learning to hear the nuances the LFS sound engine is able to communicate.

Quote :Well the only thing the engine communicates is the revs, that's it.

No, thats not it. You are kidding, right?

The AI needs work, I agree with you there. Apparently, the devs are working on this now. I look forward to whatever they're gonna come up with.

I habitually read the ads here because I'm interested in LFS related sites, and from time to time I actually click on one to see what LFS enthusiasts are comming up with.

Indeed, I'm interested in the Matrox offering as well. Triple screen setup, what a blast, I would love to have one...

@tommy10101

What did you expect?!? Everyone going "... gee, thanks Tom, I'll shift delete the whole LFS directory right away..." ???

I say you have been comprehensively out-researched. Most Forum regulars know their 5h!t

I'm utterly convinced that all these items WILL be implemented sooner or later. I'm convinced there exists a roadmap for LFS development. It absolutely doesn't bother me that I don't know that roadmap.

Also, I suspect that many of the missing/buggy items mentioned by the original poster may already be implemented/fixed in one or multiple development versions hidden away in the depths of the development source tree.

I'm happy to wait. LFS is of outstanding quality already. I got my money's worth many times over.

Whether I will use this service or not, I think its a great option. The devs deserve every penny they can get. Onya, Scavier , and thank you for a great sim.

Crazy Harry, you should try to overcome your confidence problem and resist peer pressure. Those lfs loving fragmaster buddies of yours may be a bad influence on you.

I'm from Australia and often have only servers in the 300 - 400ms ping range available. Anything below 350 is good enough, when I'm desperate I'll settle for 360ms(if its worse I'll pass), average is around 320 to servers in Germany and England. I usually have a high quality 4mb down/1mb up connection from my provider, I make sure no (absolutely NONE) other applications are running that could use up bandwidth.

It is very very rare that anyone complains to me about me being laggy, though it has happened. But then again I have experienced laggy players that were connected to an Australian server (30-40ms) and I knew they were connecting from within Australia. Sometimes I race on an Australian server and people I know are Europeans connect and its no problem. So, with a quality connection pings of up to 360ms are acceptable IMHO.

A testament to the quality netcode our devs have produced, I say
