With the release of test patch W21 and the new hi-res download service available, I'm wondering how many people have taken the plunge and are using this new service.

I am signed up and enjoying hi res skins.

I agree with three_jump. If it's going to be customisable it should save the setting whether it be auto, no or yes. Personally I prefer manual

I don't like the changes in W21 like shift+p for pits and the timer display has gone a bit bare. I'm sticking with W17 because I'm used to it and it's what the league I'm in currently uses. For dedi I've gone to W21 since it has that qualifying track bug fixed.

You already see too much in the mirrors you shouldn't see, well perhaps not too much but it's too clear with no wings or boots in the way. You can't move your exsiting cars mirror where you want it since it's glued to the windscreen so it's not realisitic being able to move the rear view where you want.

MNR stylee i see. 3 races totoally 1 hour all up would be good, with a the finale in the GTRs being a 4 hour enduro each team enters 1 car with 2 drivers.

EDIT: You'll always also get some artifacts when converting back from DDS to whatever format due to the original whatever->DDS compression.

The comparison I posted is a direct downloaded file from lfs using lfsworld not a conversion by me.

I've downloaded a freeware dds converter that does DXT3 and DXT5, should I try these? I only used DXT1 for my skins_x folder. The thing is now skins will taje up twice the space on the hardrive and still offer lower quality. If we could upload dds skins perhaps...

I'll get the converter out again, it took 30minutes to convert 3500 jpgs, of about 200 were 2048res ones. I'll try DXT5 and see if theres much difference.

Well there's not much difference between the lfsw dds and the one I just converted using DXT5, it's a little clearer but the file size is larger. I can put up with a larger file if it means better gameplay but I'd also like to see quality go up too.

Converting 1024 to 512 and then to dds again loses some quality so infact we're getting worse quality then we began with.

for comparison... you can really see it around the oval shape and the logo.

Actually if you look at the converted dds skin files compared to their jpg brothers they're larger and have more artifacts, thus look crappier.

OK something else I've noticed is that my old replays are now redownloading all the skins as dds even though I have them in my skins_x and skins_y folder as jpgs. The dds files are also twice the size of the jpgs and suffer from worse compression artifacts, is this right?

edit: lfs must only recognises dds files now, and it only converted the skins in my skins folder. I guess I'll have to manually or batch convert the remaining jpg files in my skins_x folder to be able to use them.

I just joined a W17 host and upon connection got nothing but a black screen. Changing resolutions and going into windowed mode did not fix the problem. Sound was working fine but no picture. ALT+F4 worked snd the second time I loaded up W21 it connected to the host fine.

Also is it possible to use enter in the pits to get back out onto the track? I've always previsouly used X to exit the pits when SHIFT+S was used. It's just quicker than having to reach for the mouse

Doesn't sound too hard to fix, if you can't rma it then I'd open it up and try to fix that loose connection. Might just need a bit of solder.

I've been driving oval more and more lately since the FXR is being used, great close racing when there's good racers about. Can't wait for the aero model to be completed.

I don't even understand how throttle help can work. My W17 hotlaps don't have this problem though.

Is that server computer connected to the internet and how is it connected to the internet? You need to forward ports on your router so other people can connect over the internet to your game. www.portforward.com

F08 is sweet the way it is, it reacts to driver inputs superbly.

Well that setup is absolute rubbish and only a waste of time. I'm not saying your points are valid but his times aren't going to get that much better with that setup. It's actually proabably the opposite of all the good FZR sets.

yup, the main thing holding you back is the setup. The R3s are way too cold and hard to provide enough grip. It looks like you're using the H-shifter, that also is slower than using sequential shifting or the paddles since yopu have to concentrate on clutch etc. instead of where you're going snd what you're doing. The best I managed while test driving that set and using the H-shifter was a 1.41. It makes braking complete hell since I'm used to left foot braking.
