If you download the whole new version of W not just the small update patch then extract W over the top of T making sure that you overwrite everything.

Quote from J.B. :Can you explain this in detail? Say my screen has 1680x1050 pixels (16:10) and I connect a HDTV decoder box that outputs a 1920x1080 (16:9) signal. Now the screen with no aspect ratio options will take the 1920x1080 signal and resize it to 1680x1050 thus distorting the AR.

What the HDTV box needs to do to prevent this is add extra black pixels to the top and bottom of the image for which it also needs to know the AR of my screen.

Is this what these kind of devices typically do?

That's a good question and one I can't answer as I've never tried that. I only use my monitor for my pc but I'd say that hooking up to something would probably stretch it since the AR of monitors and tvs is different. Maybe if the set top box is smart it'll detect a plug n play monitor and scale accordingly. I know that I don't have switch the AR from 16:9 to 4:3 on my tv, it's done automaticaly and my graphics card adds black bars to the top and bottom and to the sides if necessary when watching movies or tv shows.

Quote from J.B. :But what about connecting a Blu-Ray player or a PS3 or a HDTV decoder box? For me it's the monitors job to deal with the AR not the GPU's.

ALl those have built in AR adjustment so the monitor doesn't need to do it. Hell I don't even use the AR adjustment on my tv because all the other boxes have automatic AR adjustment and provide a fully digital signal.

If you get a TFT that uses DVI you can use your video card to adjust the ratio automatically so the monitor doesn't have to do it. I wouldn't even bother with an analog screen really.

Yes the GS is the one. Here it is $200, so 120E when converted.

You can set up AA in the nvidia control panel under pforiles so it only overrides when LFS.exe is started. Yes it'll take a greater hit on your graphics card, btu you should be able to run some AA and AF with that card. I'd experiement, you migth be surprised and find that you're cpu limited and frame rate doesn't change too much with AA enabled.

So which is the high setting? -4 or 0? Am I lead to believe that the 0 would be the higher quality setting? I think I saw Scawen wreite somewhere that on that screen all settings to the right would result in highest quality. But then I've also read that with mip bias the more negative you go the better it is.

I understand what you're sayin Kar but you can't compare books to this. You don't see road signs written in tiny writing. It all has to be in proportion to be visible. I have the ingame chat text foint size at minimum for this very reason.

I think that the names are too small currently and don't show up far away enough. If they get in the way its easy to turn them off and then back on again with a few taps of a key.

Most 22" use the same panel made by CMV optronics or something. If you see the Viewsonic, CMV (Chimei), Proview and Asus brands they all use the same panel as the Dell and cost a little less. I have a Chimei brand monitor and it really is fantastic. I picked it up for 300E, it can be had for about 230E these days. I highly recommend getting one of these monitors with this particluar panel. Even though it's only 6 bit the colours are very clear and you can't run it at full brightness because it's just so bright. So the backlight should last a good few years.

For anything that has to run in 4:3 or 5:4 mode, graphics cards these days can add black bars to the sides and run in that res and it's fine.

Dunno why but this only works for stcc servers. Doesn't work on any other server I try. The window that keeps poppping for skin downloading gets annoying after a while too.

If you can strech the budget a fraction I'd recommend the 7900GS. Not sure how much it is in E but shouldn't be much more than 100. Otherwise the 7600GT is a solid performer.

After going widescreen I don't know how I managed to stay away for so long. It's great for everything, and the 1680x1050 res means text isn't too small to read either. All programs work fine including LFS in native res.

Two options and both wrong, what a poll. People have to earn respect, you don't just get it by breaking a WR or being devoted to lfs.

To get tv director working all you need to do is set the port in tv director e.g 29999. Then open lfs and type /insim 29999. You should get a welcome message that tv director has connected. If you get nothing something is wrong, but you should atleast get some kind of error.

I'm not sure. It wasn't a shift+u related error, just a very random one. I can count on one hand the amount of times lfs has crashed for me so it's something I thought I'd report in this specific thread for it.
