I just want to say one thing about those flexing wings. You clearly see them moving. But the FIA hangs a weight of 50 Kg (50 * 9,81 = 490,5 N) on them to see if they don't flex. However, when I look in LFS, the front wing (at high value) gives a force of 4896 N down at 300 Km/h (83,3 m/s). That is the same as 4896 / 9,81 = 499,1 Kg!

So, it's not weird that the wings flex, because they get far bigger forces than that little 50 Kg from the FIA. :P

Or am I talking complete bullsh*t now?

Controllable starting lights

Hey,

I was just watching the replay of a league race. And most leagues have laglaps. Works as a nice preparation for the real start ass well. But...

What if the starting lights were controllable? Maybe by the admin or so. That would be an easy way for formation laps. Safetycar situations, or maybe even red flags (in league races when there's a huge crash in T1).

For example, if the admin types "/startlight=formation" the starting lights start the procedure for the formation lap. And "/startlight=race" for a normal start. Or even "/pitlight=red" when a safetycar is going out.

Something like that. Would that be an idea for the future maybe?

Not? I never drive LX4 & 6. Just ignore all my posts in this thread.

No, only the C298. So that makes 49816.

You should try the training course.

[edit]
*nevermind, I should read better [/edit]

2. How do I know when my wheels are locked or about to lock? Yes, practice but in practice sessions how do I know?

In the SETUP-screen you can have add (like Michelin) on the sidewalls of the tyres. If they don't move you're blocking that tyre or you're not driving.

Quote from MARSH2a :Oh no, not the Blue Flag issue again... illepall
Can you show me one documented example where the driver being passed is expected to leave his line?
How is it that after 5 or 10 laps you've finally reached a point to pass back markers, yet you expect to pass them in a matter of seconds instead of a lap or two?
IMHO, if you can't leave the line to pass, you are driving beyond your abilities.

Wiki;

Quote :The blue flag

A light blue flag, sometimes with a diagonal orange or yellow stripe, informs a driver that he is about to be lapped and should move aside to allow one or more faster cars to pass. In most series, the blue flag is not mandatory; that is, drivers obey it only as a courtesy to their fellow racers. However, in Champ Car, this can be upgraded. A pair of waving blue flags displayed from the starter's stand, known as the Chief Steward's blue flag, order a driver to give way to faster traffic or be black-flagged.

But I didn't say the slower (or being lapped) driver needs to get out of the way the very second he gets a blue flag. I expect them to get out of the way within a couple of corners. But it mostly aren't the cars you lap (finally ) after 5-10 laps, but the cars who come out of the pits (mostly they just come in) and they keep in front, even if they hard even drive lines. And it gets very anoying when you're in a good fight. That really happened to me way too much.

Especially after the patch I had 20 very nice fights, from the beginning of the race till the end. And 15 of them were screwed by slower drivers..

Quote from oompaloompafive7 :In racing, it is not up to the slower car to move off line. In fact, it's generally recomended that they do not. It's up to the faster car to pass safely, not the slower car. This is coming from someone that is a flagger in real life. The blue flag is displayed simply as a warning that you are about to be overtaken and to be aware.

If someone (in F1) is given a blue flag twice, but they still don't let the faster driver pass, they get a drive-through, or even a stop-and-go..

Quote from Thorvertonian :But it's not always lapping, first corner for instance!

Some people do not wait for a realistic overtaking place, they simply try to drive through you....

Hmm, well, if slower people are on the same lap you can't expect them to get out of the way indeed, as a faster driver.

Well, a blue flag is a blue flag..

But seriously. I'm not the slowest driver, and in a practise or so I take it much easier with the slower driver. Exept in qualification, when they just come out of the pits, you see it happening on the map. Some people get out of the way when they get the change, but unfortionately most don't.

In race I take it a bit easier, but its still happends too much that someone in front doesn't get out of the way. And it's not that difficult is it? I don't get it. Even when I show a "Blue flag, please let pass" message, 2 corners before I actually reach them, they're still not 1cm out of the way... Is it so hard to get off the line for 2 secs to let someone pass, and then get back on the line?

Wow, this is great! Only problem, I had LED1 on when I need to brake, but then I forget to look to the road.. :P

But, that gauge thing, could that work on any device with LEDs or anything in it? Like a Nokia N-gage? :P

U has a new version of the LFS.exe, so maybe some program is blocking it because it's not familiar with it (anymore). I had that with ZoneAlarm. Maybe try running LFS in windowed mode to see if you get some message or so?

Quote from r4ptor :Darkone55: I don't understand that because I gave away "my" setup to other racers and they would go like "wow, this setup is tough on the tires".

Vain: Don't know about that - all I know is that near the ending of a 12 lap race, the tires becomes hot enough for me to feel like I'm on ice :P I don't lose control or are close to it, but the red tires do affect lap times greatly.

Just add some pressure then..

Tracks can have a great saying too, yes. But you can't ignore that the setup have to be competitive on turns aswell.

True, but you only change wing a little bit offcourse, so it won't make that much difference. As long as the laptimes stay within a few tenths of the "old" set.

Quote from r4ptor :
Not all setups for the FOX are good for racing. I have a setup that *will* overheat the tires if driven on, or just above the limit for 4-5 laps on SO Classic.

Al wr sets from FOX have that, that they start to have red tyres between 5-10 laps. But after that the insides will get greener again.

Quote from r4ptor :I've been racing with opponents doing same times as me aswell as being consintant. Only way to pass is to brake later when you get the chance, and cut him off - higher downforce will defenatly help - lower downforce will either make you go too wide, or slow down too much - in both cases, the opponent will most likely regain his position.

Nothing is more thrilling than outbraking an opponent

Well, if you have Blackwood for example, it's better to have a little less downforce than the one you want to overtake. The straight is long enough to get in his slipstream. When you use higher downforce, you need to be close to him already in the chicane (with a big chance of having much understeer), and stay behind him for 3/4 of the straight. Same for KY National.

Aston is different, because there are a lot of slow corners before the straight (so downforce doesnt matter that much) where you can get very close to someone.

About the sets; I'm usually satisfied with the balance of the WR sets, so I don't change anything on the suspension. I only add tyre pressure, and less negative camber. For the faster cars that is.

But for FOX you don't need to change anything. The tyres stay quite good a whole stint with 100% fuel.

I love the FO8 since I tried it yesterday. It handles a bit like the old FOX, only faster.
FOX is still nice, but very easy. But I had great fights with the FOX already.

FZR is great now too btw. And I like the BF1 too off course, but there is absolutely no serious racing possible atm. Maybe some leagues soon..

And I like most configs (exept Fern Bay and South City somehow...)

Quote from ORION :Yes I have always hated warming up the tyres with either those extreme steering actions, resulting in damaging your beloved any expensive wheel, or going backwards and doing weird things to get the tyres warm where they shall be warm.

Well, I do this quite often in my hotlaps. But I'm not damaging my wheel, I don't full steer till I can't go further. illepall

But look to the F1 for example. Raikkonen does it the same way. He warms the rear tyres by making a burn-out, and the front tyres by extreme steering. And Alonso does it by some heavy slaloming.

But driving backwards shouldn't be allowed though.

And aren't the tyres already pre-warmed? I mean, if you start they're already 40 degrees C. While the air temprature is 20-25 degrees?

You can't really compare these pics with LFS BF1. The tyres on the pics have a higher pressure (long race), and are still cold.
